I was just going to make a comment like yours. I liked this song when it came out and the details you mentioned were over my head. They sunk in much later. It's really a societal double standard. A man seducing an underage girl would be controversial in any age I think, as it should be. But I never heard about controversy about this, or other hits with similar themes, including Bobby Goldsboro "Summer (The First Time)" or probably the biggest one implying loss of virginity meaning becoming a man, The Four Seasons "December 1963 (Oh What a Night)." In my case, the older female, the first I ever dated, said "I am going to seduce you…make love…" and I was quite distressed because I was too young and not emotionally ready, but when I resisted, she got upset and I felt awful...and the impressions I got from society was that I was the one inappropriate, not her…to this day I don't feel I "became a man"… Modern society is the same…no one says Selena Gomez was at the very least contributing to the delinquency of then minor Justin Bieber, when she and he were groping each other's rears in swimwear on a beach…leading to I can guess what later in private...
