Great song. Great guitar parts. Great band. Terrible video.

We Bowie fans need a restart on this period... Not only does he look so beautiful in these clips & live performances but the songs are mostly as good as anything he'll do in the decades after the 80's... 'You Belong To Rock 'N Roll' being the best

This was the band Iggy used when he toured The Idiot in 1977

Only partially true. Reeves Gabrels was not around with Bowie or Iggy back in the 70's. The Sales brothers were . They played with Iggy on his biggest song: Lust For Life. Those guys are Detroit natives and were wild brothers. So who does Bowie call up when he wants to put his own band together and get back to his Rock roots: the Sales Brothers. Reeves Gabrels was recruited to provide the guitar fireworks and amazing solos...

Tin Machine was GREAT!! wonderful live act!! the problem was the era full of moody teens who were all getting into Nirvana and didn't pay attention to much else :) to be honest :)

Stereomusicvideo...thank you for this hi-def version - it's a well-edited beautiful and at the same time disturbing music video just like this song. The music David wrote with Tin Machine is highly underrated and this song is genius.

    ¡Larga vida a Tin Machine!

Sadly underrated, yet the sheep will still bang on about Tin Machine being Bowie's nadir. I personally think it was the start of his more personal latter period where he didn't invent personas, just sung it as himself. And that's why his music since 2000 has been so heart-wrenching and lovely in moments.

+jasonrattue - I never understood the vitriol and excoriation directed at Bowie for the Tin Machine period. It's not mindless heavy rock but very astute and acidic political and social commentary. Perhaps he hit the mark too closely, and the targets he aimed at didn't like it, who then shifted uncomfortably in their chairs and responded with bile.

I bought this cd back when it first came out. I liked a few tracks but didn't find it that great at the time. 23 years later I pulled it out of my cd drawer and (re)discovered it and found it much more enjoyable (before David died last year). What jumped out at me first as a guitar player, is how amazing Reeve Grabrels is on lead guitar. He is explosive and brings it all to every song: dive bombs, wahwah, power chords, smooth rhythm, etc.. The hunt brothers bring the driving rock beat, and David brings the melody, style and structure with his lead vocals and acoustic guitar. I think the reason why Tin Machine didn't work was because David's image was too great for the band to overcome. Everyone wanted to see David play Ziggy rather than move on with him to his next adventure. This was as stripped down as Bowie ever got as a rock singer, and it represented David simply being in a band with real band members, rather than people he would pick to record with or bring in for studio work - and then handpick another group of people to tour with. No costumes, no hairdos, no hiding his face behind another character. David seemed happy and healthy at this time in his life. Check out the live video of this song taken in Munich in 1991. It is much more powerful and up tempo than this recorded version.

I'm of the same mind. After Never Let Me Down I think he needed to reinvigorate his passion for music, and Tin Machine helped him get there. I don't think the later stage Bowie of Earthling, Heathen and Reality happens without Tin Machine. I love the albums in their own right, but appreciate them even more for the door they opened to what followed.
