Bob Lewin1 year agoApril 1966, Camp LeJeune, NC - We have finished our infantry training, had our 2 week leave and all of us waiting for our orders to be shipped out - many to Vietnam.
As we have some freetime one evening in the barracks the radio is playing a wonderful song by BJ Thomas "I'm so lonesome I could cry". What feelings come over us as we have just left our families while we were on leave and now face a very uncertain future to say the least. It's strange to be an 18, 19, 20 year old hiding our innermost doubts and putting on a strong face. Many will never see their loved ones, families, friends and country again. Thanks BJ for your song and thank you brother Marines for your ultimate sacrifice. I remember. ....this comment touched me at my very core!! as I sit her crying ..I want to thank you sir for your service!!  i'll never forget this comment!!

I had a cassette of BJ Thomas in the 70's, probably still do, if it isn't worn out. One of the all time great voices and still is. No auto tuner or effects needed. Also some of the best side men in the business.

Reminds me of May 1966...husband was leaving next day to Camp Pendelton,then Vietnam.I was 4 months pregnant and wondered if he would see me or our baby.Played that song over and over.Came home safe...we're together 53 yrs.,3 children and 5 brands later.He passed 03 02 2019...from agent orange.Your song will always be a part of my life,God Bless.

Wow, that was an absolutely awful version of a Hank classic. Dude is talented but that song for him was God awful. He sounded like a Vegas lounge singer in the 70s Hank Sr. Sounds like the words are coming from his soul.

When i hear this song on a rainy day i would go outdoors and the rain felt like her tears hitting me. This past 4th of July of 2019 i had to put down her dog of 15 yrs,at least they will be reunited again.They say life goes on but for me i am lonesome +still cry for them.Love+Miss You Guys. R.I.P.
