They Might Be Giants - Road Movie To Berlin Lyrics

We're in a road movie to Berlin
Can't drive out the way we drove in
So sneak out this glass of bourbon
And we'll go

We were once so close to heaven
Peter came out and gave us medals
Declaring us the nicest of the damned

Time won't find the lost
It'll sweep up our skeleton bones
So take the wheel and I will take the pedals

We're in a road movie to Berlin
Can't drive out the way we drove in
So sneak out this glass of bourbon
And we'll go

I'm actually sad because this was one of the songs that I never got to hear a lot mostly cause it was at the back of the album, but it still tears me up like the others

  4. L.... B....

I had to wait until after 8pm to dial Brooklyn from Hartford for Dial A Song. The rates were lower. Yes, it was a rotary phone stuck to a wall...😁😁😁

  5. J.... B....

John and John are just on another level.

    The use of certain
    Conventions will prove
    Most advantageous
    To the vinyl bake!

    J.... B....

    @Cassidy Wright Fair enough.

  10. S.... A....

anybody know what this song actually is about im thinking west and east berlin

    S.... A....

Bing Crosby and Bob Hope made these "Road Movies" like "Road to Morocco" and "Road to Singapore" that were just kinda cheap and easy comedy movies. This song is about a fictional one... to Berlin.

  11. B.... ....

This is a great close out track to a great album

funny thing i'm admitting . growing up this song actually made me a little sad because it sounds kinda serious at parts . even tho it's got me enjoying it still as i did also like it back then . i actually thought that the singer was really sad but oh well . after awhile , i'm like ... nah , walk it off bro . good luck with your traveling road movie thing !

    A.... H....

Made me actually laugh out loud! Thanks!

    This glass, so urban.

We all know "They Might Be Giants" is the name of an old movie, but does anyone know if the movie was actually any good?

    M.... T....

It is a must see movie. George C. Scott is in a psych ward and believes he is Sherlock Holmes. His nurses name happens to be Watson. Loved it.

    M.... T....

Mixed answer: Many people find it a remarkable character study and entertaining movie. The band took their name from it (according to pop legend) because they found it to be overwhelmingly bad.

    M.... T....

Ross Anderson nah, they just liked the name since it sounds like something positive

    M.... T....

    I enjoyed it.

  15. G.... P....

    these guys are geniuses

  16. D.... M....

I was once so close to Townsville Everett came out gave me a medal declaring me the nicest of the damned!!

Flood has to be one of my all time favorite albums ever.

    h.... ....

Mine too, music is magic and has the power to transport you in time.

    h.... ....

    @Ultra Pro Theories Lincoln?

    h.... ....

Me, too! It has the best songs in my opinion

    h.... ....

Dang, no love for Factory Showroom at all. That is without doubt their defining work; that's what the album title literally means.

In the liner notes there were additional lyrics. I can't remember them all but two of the lines were "you told me you were king of liars/so I knelt down and called you sire." They weren't in the song, though. Can someone tell me if they were added just for kicks or if the liner just used the lyrics from a demo?

    T.... M....

+The Monkeysphere According to the album's Wikipedia page, the Johns simply forgot to include that verse when they were recording the song.

    T.... M....

@Turtle152 Holy cow. Coming from someone who grew up with this album, that blows my mind.

    T.... M....

Frank Black sang those lyrics in his cover . Be warned the arrangement makes the song...PEPPY😆😆😆

    T.... M....

Neither. That extra verse, "You said you were the King of Liars..." etc. comes from an early *live* performance of the song. It's the same reason as why the Lincoln liner notes print lyrics different from the ones sung for track 7, "Piece Of Dirt".

    T.... M....

"You said you were the King of Liars
I believed you and called you Sire
But I realize now that I have been deceived"
