An old friend from the 80s and I had gone separate ways until a chance encounter in home town about 3 yrs ago. I drove him back to mine , and we caught -up on the years ( poor sod had been and was in a bit of a mess ) until the conversation stopped. With that , I looks across at Pete and goes “ I’VE GOT TOO MUCH ENERGY TO SWITCH OFF MY MIND .....” We both carried on with every fucking word and were back in less complicated times. This is the Empire Strikes Back in my the The Star Wars trilogy. Epic! Nothing ever sounded anything like those three albums. I wore them out on vinyl, cassette, and CD.

Ironically, I was thinking not too long ago that I could trace a bit of a The The influence on Sister Machine Gun.

This is one of the first albums I ever listened to back in '89, it was my brother's. I couldn't stop repeating it and 30+ years later I'm still listening to it (along with all the other albums too), the lyrics have become more and more relevant as life choices have mirrored the dilemmas and personal traits and quirks Matt sings about. Such great melodies too. Matt, you're a lyrical genius!

Marr is not on this one. He's on the next one (Mind Bomb).

One of my favorite artists of all time! if you want to give your sound system a good work out try the 12 inch extended mix of slow train to dawn, Infected is a classic album and track. I'm so pleased I got to see them play live especially that Johnny Marr was in the line up. Matt said recently he was working on new material for a The The Album. Can't wait !

The musical layering that appears on this album are nearly unmatched, it's a sophisticated and fantastically produced album, reminds me a lot of Marquee Moon by Television.

This VHS album was so important to me when it came out. I had it on loop in the background all the time. I was obsessed. Still sounds amazing.

For me in 1988.89 it was the CD ... especially “Angel if Desception“ with the fighter plane chat on radio. Had been in German Military that time ... and in 1990 stationed to Ramstein. First US.Iraqi war beginning the last decade of the old millenium.

I still have that VHS. It rocked my young world and still stands out as a grand accomplishment.

Channel Four gave this an airing (in its entirety) at around the same time, I recall. I think I taped it off the TV.
