It was said once Eddie pursued Diana Ross before Berry Gordy caught a hold of her talent and sang Lead on 5 No.1 Pop 1964-1965! in a row !Then she became His girl Only..Eddie said Berry never really liked him.Could it Possibly be Berry was a lil jealous of Eddies good looks and sweet tenor voice ALL the ladies love?. Eddie was tall and thin Berry short, and Not the most handsome of the men.but he was a man with a Dream and change in Music history creating more super stars with talent than Any other record company ever.

I can actually testify to the truth in this song,because when this song was popular,I was in high school,and I played Basketball rather well.
So,I of course had more than MY share of girls.
But there was this ONE girl who had a fellow at the time.And I set MY sights on her.
But,couldn't quite separate her and him.
After graduation,she and I went to the same college.
And I just knew without the guy being there,I would surely succeed in getting her.
BUT,,,,,NOPE.
She was ONE that I just couldn't get completely next to.
And today,she and he have two grown children and have been married for over forty years.(LOL)....
Whenever I see them I congratulate them,and smile and say to myself,"she's the one who got away."
But I think that he STILL doesn't care to much for ME though.(LOL)...
I'M JUST SAYING.....

Bad to the bone music. Glad to have this album Grace my collection. My husband turned me on to many oldies by Temps, Manhattan's, in their earlier days. This is one of my all time favorite albums by the Temps. Rock on brothers. As Smokey quoted, if music be the food of love, play on.

Mary Wells sang the original version and Smokey recorded it later in 1969 but to me, The Tempts version is the best!

Mary's version is nice but the Temptation's version is heavily orchestrated and much more lively and rhythmic. Add the amazing vocals of the Temptations and you have a classic.

The song was written by BOBBY ROGERS AND SMOKEY.
It was recorded by THE MIRACLES IN 1962,and MARY WELLS,along with backup from the LOVE TONES, released it in 1963,
as the b-side of MARY WELL'S hit "Your Old Stand By."

How about I played this 3times 4 a quarter...on the "juke box"....at the dinner on route.440 in Jersey City,NJ 1964

Those juke boxes had great sound. They made those 45 rpm records sound good. They are a thing of the pass, now. Spotify and Apple Music are in.

I remember, as a kid, going to the Murphy's 5 and 10 cent store and buying 45 rpm records. Music has greatly changed over the years. Today people are streaming their music. However, I still prefer to buy the CD. I love collecting albums, CDs, and cassettes. I even have a working 8 track player, which I never use. To me music, no matter what form it's in, is still music. Oh, I forgot to tell you about collection of 78s.
