For me, this music is a metaphor of Tarja's life. Since this album shows us the more human side of tarja, this music implies a lot of things... Nightwish, her wish to be "free", and more things.

Tarja's new album may not appeal to fans of the Symphonic Metal, but surely this work is very good, the lyrics and melodies are very mature and beautiful.

Im sorry with out Tuomas song writing Tarja just isn't the same deep dark siren she was years ago.

When I said Nightwish is not the same anymore and become poppy after Tarja left everyone said to move on and Nightwish has evolved. Same here. Tarja has evolved in her solo work. And Tarja wrote better songs than Anette and Floor. If those two ladies wrote songs worth remembering, instead of being interpreters or conveyors of Tuomas' songs.

What? Not enough self pity by a poor little dead boy wronged by the big bad world in these lyrics for some of you guys? Let's face the facts. Yes, tuomas wrote some pretty good music in the past, but let's face it, his song writing skills pretty much tanked after Nightwish first few albums. Today, Tarja writes much better music than tuomas does. Go listen to his "Auri" stuff and tell us otherwise with a straight face. tuomas got lost within himself and could never find his way out. Or maybe he got lost in the bottom of a bottle, but when he got to the point he couldn't write anything but self pity songs for a "poor little dead boy" it was the end of the line for him. Nowadays, it's either the poor little dead boy shtick or cheesy poppy stuff like Elan that's about as deep as a puddle and as phony as a three dollar bill. Tarja, on the other hand has written many great songs, since her Nightwish days. And those songs are much deeper and more mature than anything tommy boy has churned out in recent years.

Stefan L oh my god, thank you. The older Tuomas has gotten, the creepier his little boy innocence songs have become. While I adore the song Dead Boy’s Poem, I hate the fact that it pretty much defined his lyrical style for the rest of his career, and it’s just pretentious and disturbing at this point. It pretty much killed him. Plus musically speaking, DPP was a watered-down Once, Imaginaerum was just terrible (:p), and EFMB was Once 2.0... no musical evolution in a decade and a half. I honestly think that if Tarja had chosen to return to Nightwish (I think it’s pretty obvious that she’s had the choice, and I wouldn’t even be surprised if she’s the one who suggested Floor to Tuomas), and Lucid Dreamer, Mystique Voyage, Deliverance, Medusa, Crimson Deep, Anteroom of Death, Victim of Ritual, Calling from the Wild, Undertaker, Spirit of the Sea, Silent Masquerade, or this lovely Shadow Play right here were released under the artist “Nightwish” and written by Tuomas, people would be saying it’s the best music he has ever created.

Can we just leave the Nightwish period with Tarja behind us? It happened 14yrs ago, get over it ffs and just enjoy the music . They're both different now and they've moved on, so please let us do that as well.

Very good music. If Tarja had sung this operatic style, it could have been a great song.
But instead she continues this artsy suffering tone contemporary singing. I'm big fan of Tarja but not fan of the style of this.
Look how you sang in your firs 3 albums in Nightwish Tarja. What you do outside metal, you do best also inside metal.

@Aurinkohirvi I partly agree. I also wished she would sing this in more classical style. But not all passages. And not like she sang on the first NW albums, but with her nowadays classical voice, which is more much developed and much more expressive than back then. Which you also can hear to some extent in the chorus of this song. But I also miss the speed of the first NW albums, I can not deny it :)))))))))))))) I especially wish she would sing Stargazers live again. She would still, ummmmm, sweep every floor, doing this. Sorry, I love Floor, but I could not resist :)))))))))))))))))))))

@Aurinkohirvi Thanks, I know these videos and love them, esp. the Rio video, which maybe is even more amazing then the wonderful Luna Park version. Anyway, on of all of them it gets quite clear who will own this song for all times :))))

Oh yeah, and I don't by all means mean I don't like Tarja's contemporary singing. I do, she sings that style great. It's just the artsy decorating she uses with it that really turns me off. Makes her sound like a hybrid of a cat, frog and a crow. I don't mean all she should do is sing classical style.

Many complained Nightwish borrowed Iron Maiden's riff. Many noted similarities in Dark Element-Anette latest song to Nightwish's the Escapist. The whole world knows Led Zeppelin stole whole songs from African American blues masters. Rap lifts from everyone. And all the fuss here over this song too.

Interesting... I think the chorus was meant to be a harsh counter to contrast with Tarja’s smooth voice. The beautiful part really begins around the 4:00!
