Tammy Wynette - Between 29 And Danger Lyrics

I made up my mind today while makin' up my bed
And I make up my face instead of bakin' up some bread
Tired of puttin' up with someone who puts me down
So I put on my brand new dress and I sneaked off to town

Between twenty-nine and danger in the arms of a stranger
But that kind of danger would be sweet
Would be sweet relief to me

While he took a bath I grabbed his car keys from the shelf
Then I went through his billfold and for once I helped myself
I've washed socks and shirts and shorts and dishes for that man
But today the only thing I'm washin' is my hands

Between twenty-nine and danger in the arms of a stranger
But that kind of danger would be sweet
Would be sweet relief to me

I'm not hold I'm like my car I've got some good years left
But the thought of growin' old with him scares me to death
I've got to learn to walk alone before he makes me crawl
I'd rather be a common tramp than nothin' at all

Between twenty-nine and danger in the arms of a stranger
But that kind of danger would be sweet
Would be sweet relief to me

Between twenty-nine and danger in the arms of a stranger
But that kind of danger would be sweet
Would be sweet relief to me

@MyJustified Thanks for the reply. In 1981 she would have been 39 years old, it doesn't seem like age would do that. Smoking could though, and pills too I guess, right? Besides not hitting the high notes, can you also hear something different? Her voice just isn't as pure or accurate -- I wish I could describe it better. You hear it too though, right? I can understand the last performances (with Lorrie Morgan, etc, so sad) was related to health, but the earlier years, what changed?

@94ballou Her voice started to mature in 1981, It was unbelivable cause the year before she could hit those high notes, I'd say it was the smoking that really done it cause she did'nt give until the late 80's, and i'd say her addiction to painkillers was a big part as they cause respiratory problems.

Maybe pitch isn't the right word, she just sounds different.

Thanks again for another great Tammy song. Does anyone have any thoughts about why Tammy's voice changed so much over the years? I LOVE everything I've ever heard her sing, I even love her speaking voice. To me though, there's such a difference from her pure and perfect early singing --(even live, she was spot on) -- and her later years. Does anyone agree? If so, any thoughts about why her voice seemed to change? I'm a die hard Tammy fan, I'm not being critical of her, just wondering.
