When he sings "when the wind blows" you can hear a few chords from "Ruler of Everything" very faintly every time it plays. You can actually hear it throughout the entire final bit of the song, too. Maybe I'm just hearing things... lol

This was my first song of the 20s. I never really “got” it before, just had the chorus stuck in my head. But tonight it made me cry. I want to change from a scarecrow into a living, known being in the world. Thank you Tally Hall for your great music, I appreciate artists who’s work promotes such insight in its audience.

I love how lonely this song makes me feel. The speaker manages to put us in the place of the scarecrow while making it seem distant/isolated.

This song... it gives me a strange Fall vibe. It feels like something from a nuclear fallout or a random apocalypse, just seeing one scarecrow being the only thing left for humanity as the credits roll.

Has anybody considered the idea that there is no metaphorical significance to the lyrics? Like, what if the singer is just thinking about if a scarecrow knows what’s it’s doing? What if they’re thinking up some hypothetical of if the scarecrows ever wonders about things. It’s sort of poetic in its own right, but to me, the significance is right there in front of me; the scarecrow isn’t really representative of anything, but it does help explore themes of wondering.

When all it takes is to simply as and consider my feelings over what they decide they want me to be. OrganizedChaos I’m pretty sure it’s about how these people singing thinks of the scarecrow is alive and thinks as well as thinking of suicide because...he’s a scarecrow he can’t move or do anything...idk that’s my theory

What I understand is that it's about someone who stands in the background to everyone's life. The people who seem important don't worry to much about the scarecrow, who seems to just smile and not be bothered. The truth is that the scarecrow has more thoughts than what people assume they have, and yet nobody seems to notice their distress.
Okay, I don't know if you wanted an explanation or if that was the intended meaning, but that's what I get from it.
