Tallest Man On Earth, The - Both Sides Now Lyrics

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way

But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way

Oh but now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost but something's gained
In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

  21. B.... A....

Anyone know what kind of guitar he is using? I need one!

    B.... A....

It's an Harmony Stratotone H-44 (50's original). Eastwood made a reissue of this model. Not sure about the overall quality.

  22. c.... l....

My heart broke in half last year, and I listened to Joni's version on repeat, until I was out of tears. Your version feels like a healed rendition - still aching, but with hopefulness. This IS the best song - thank you for sharing.

    c.... l....

Dry the the tears and move forward with no fear✌

  23. E.... H....

Får alltid rysningar av denna version! Såg dig i Oslo i höstas och det var det bästa någonsin, du är magi! <3

  24. b.... ....

Am I hearing “the gardener” in the melody?

  25. B.... S....

"it will Follow the rain " sucked me in ,but your voice keeps me coming back ,amazing talent!

  26. F.... ....

I love you! And that song is EVERYTHING!

  27. 5.... ....

This is the best cover of Both Sides Now that I have ever heard. It is now my favorite version. I think what I appreciate most about it is that you let the words speak as they were meant to be spoken when they came to Joni Mitchells hand/heart. There is authenticity in this version that is not there in any other versions I have listened to.
It always seemed to me that the better, or more profound a lyric was written most singers do not really hear or understand the universality in the passage. Too often it seems singers will take a song that if left to express itself comes out like a meditation on a profound realization about some experience (Oh! This is what I thought love was but I now see - I have no idea what love means...) and turn it into some version of their own preconceived idea about what love or life might be to them personally - not universally necessarily.
Also they tend to embellish the music around the lyrics as if the lyrics and the basic music were not sufficient to understand just how meaningful the song is to the singer. Sometimes a singer uses what is otherwise a beautiful song/thought/feeling as a showcase for their own vocal prowess - showing off vocal range and gymnastics and the song is lost leaving me standing there with open hands still waiting for the gift in the song that was really stolen away.

  28. a.... s....

Thank you brother, ❤️💗 ...quite beautiful

  29. A.... B....

    Focus you fuck!

  30. J.... S....

Wonderful, no more needs to be said.

  31. D.... 1....

Its unbelievable that I've known this song for 50 years but now, today, I understand it. Kristian I'm in awe. You are teaching me how to listen

  32. J.... M....

c'est vraiment beau.... un grand bonjour de France...

  33. Z.... L....

“This is the cliff from my 2010 song Little River and ass you can see it’s still here” Kristen sees many asses from this cliff which have inspired many songs. I guess many of us writers have similar inspirations in one way or another.

  34. Z.... R....

The harmonics at 1:53 through 1:59 are stunningly well-played, they're the only harmonics he plays in the song. It's goddamn gorgeous.

  35. S.... D....

I don't think this has ever happened to me. To hear the song for the first time and cry to it. Thank you. For this song. For all your songs.

  36. E.... R....

I need this version on spotify!! Love it

  37. A.... U....

Really hoping Joni's heard your take on this Kristian

  53. m.... ....

Wonderful! Kind of a guitar nerd here :-) May I ask what tuning you used here and.....what guitar is that? Thanks.

  54. E.... M....

The most beautiful man who has ever lived.

  55. B.... ....

Could u do “come on home” by blackcar I think it would really suit your style

  56. G.... R....

    Play. Listen. Repeat. Forever.

  57. D.... J....

    Best song ever

  58. O.... D....

Just saw you play a couple of days ago in Copenhagen. Been a fan for years and years, but this was the first time I got to experience just "you" as an act and I've gotta say i was blown away by your performance. I'm amazed about how intimate and in the moment you were able to be while performing your songs even better than on your recordings.

Much love and respect, I surely will ever forget that evening. Thank you, Kristian!

  59. T.... ....

    Deserves way more views!

  60. m.... ....

Listening to this on a random Wednesday night in October with my headphones on and falling in love with this version. Thank you.

  61. S.... B....

I couldn't agree more, best song ever written and as such, I'm always extremely sceptical of any covers of it. But this one is so infused with heart and soul it's irresistible. We need this one on Spotify <3

  62. G.... B....

It is so hard to cover the Giants like Joni and many more. Not to copy, or to cheapen it. Re-sing it, but Still keep the soul of the song, as it was planned originally. You have done it well. Tack so mycket.

  63. A.... T....

I love your videos so much i was climbing a tree the other day and this came on and i laughed a lot its so sweet and nice. And what you just said about the same song just different verses... made a light go on inside me.

  64. i.... ....

    tabs anyone :)

  65. S.... R....

Du har nog den serien av musik som man kan kolla om och om på varje dag! love it!

  66. J.... O....

Thank you for this beautiful version that brought me much needed healing and arrived just at the right moment. Love to you. ❤️

  67. m.... w....

this song is life! it is all that was ever really needed to describe life and all the experiences that come with it...thank you for your version of this song!

  68. B.... G....

What about "Bill Fay - I Hear you Calling?"  It's simple, yet a masterpiece.

  69. S.... ....

More and more I'm finding it's not really the song, but it's the presence of the song...that it's coming and that you get to sing it. More and more it's the intro..it's getting into it. In Japan it is very cultural to celebrate of both the beginning and the end of a moment. In fact the actual act in the middle is not important. What really matters is that you are sacred with the beginning at the end. At first I wondered at this happening, but slowly I'm finding it comes with a deeper awareness and this is inspiring***** To Glitter! Keep making those magical surroundings:)

  70. C.... M....

Can someone please tell me what guitar and amp he is using to get that clean sound!!! Wonderful video.

  71. S.... D....

Oh man. That is a great song.

  72. W.... ....

    Horrific :-(

  73. L.... C....

Incredible. What amp and pedal are you using?

  74. O.... G....

What guitar are you using Kristian?

  75. M.... B....

    Will this reach spotify?

  76. K.... H....

    Griffin sent me.

  77. J.... R....

Thank you. I just stumbled across this, and I even didn't recognize de name of the song.... just as you started to sing, I was transported years back, and tears came to my eyes... turns out I know this song like the back of my hand, and I sang it for years when I was little. It brought back some memories (and feelings).

  78. C.... M....

Whats is that guitar? Can someone please tell me!

  79. C.... A....

    Where is the vocal mic????

  80. H.... ....

    Your house looks beautiful x

  81. K.... P....

Amazing job with the melody and reharmonization! Definitely brings a new perspective to the lyrics. Takes you to another place

Beautifully done!!!! I'm crying! HOW is it that I've just discovered YOU!!!!!!

  89. T.... R....

Wow, another fantastic cover song. This is truly one of the best I've heard. Hopefully it'll be available on record one day? (If it isn't already?)

  90. a.... ....

The guitar is perfect. However, I wonder, if you sang this an octave lower whether it wouldn't make this the most perfect cover recorded, ever.

  91. M.... T....

ouch, my heart.. (it sucks to say this but.. I wanted to be you.)

  92. K.... S....

so beautiful I want to cry. Can we have a DVD of these vids please oh beautiful Kristian? Then I can watch on the bigger screen and be enveloped in this magic which is your connection to your music. September cannot come soon enough for your awesome concert in london :-)

  93. l.... ....

This heals some part of me that I didn't notice was hurting. Thanks.

  94. W.... ....

Would love to open for you at your Portland show in November :)

  95. c.... h....

I love those birds at 5:08 , I have been watching them on the beach, they are so cute when they run on the sand, their little legs peddling so fast and I love that they hang out in groups pecking at the sand together. what are they called by the way? :-)

    c.... h....

They look like plovers to me. If this was filmed in Sweden, I'm guessing they were grey plovers, based on some google-fu of plovers that live in Sweden and some image searches.

  96. A.... G....

Thank you so much, you are a massive inspiration ! I'm from France and had the pleasure discovering you recently :)
Also didn't know this song, I love your cover and work on it.
Moreover, I fell in love with the guitar you use here and on "when the bird sees the solid ground" ("Mid-50's HARMONY H44 Stratotone Vintage Guitar, Aldens version" (?)). I own couple acoustics one, and this inspires me to buy an electric one, any suggestion ? I would like to play mostly this style of picking songs, I saw you were using Gretsch guitars a lot too ? any particular model you would recommand me ? Thanks in advance, #loveTTMoE

    A.... G....

what "gear" do you use in the video (amp, and aspecially pedals) ?

  97. S.... ....

I love this version so much, thank you for your awesome music!

  98. L.... S....

    Where is that place?

  99. H.... M....

Really beautiful... I wouldn't have imagined trumpet on this, but I loved it! It was like it was there all along, but I'd just never noticed before...
