Sweet - My Generation Lyrics
People try to put us down
(Talking 'bout my generation)
Just because we get around
(Talking 'bout my generation)
Things they do look awful cold
Hope I die before I get old
(Talking 'bout my generation)
My generation, my generation, baby
Why don't you all fade away
(Talking 'bout my generation)
Don't try to dig what we all say
(Talking 'bout my generation)
(Talking 'bout my generation)
I can talking about my generation
(Talking 'bout my generation)
My generation, my generation, baby
Why don't you all fade away
(Talking 'bout my generation)
Don't try to dig what we all say
(Talking 'bout my generation)
I'm not trying to cause a big sensation
(Talking 'bout my generation)
Talking about my generation
(Talking 'bout my generation)
My generation, my generation, baby
My generation
People try to put us down
(Talking 'bout my generation)
Just because we get around
(Talking 'bout my generation)
Things they do look awful cold
(Talking 'bout my generation)
Hope I die before I get old
(Talking 'bout my generation)
My generation, my generation, baby
My-my-my-generation
(Talking 'bout) Talking 'bout my generation

Sweet My Generation Comments
*The boss killing in the bass ❤*
Love Sweet but Entwistle is a much better bassist than Priest.
Only discovered this album this year and it's about 10 years ahead of the game. Every man and his dog has covered this but this is the best version I've heard.
Great cover especially seeing as how Keith Moon and John Entwistle comprised the Who's rhythm section!!!
Is this Brian singing?
Brian and Steve are taking it in turns
I love the bass solo in this song. fantastic solo steve priest.
おー貴重だなwwwwwww
Sweet belongs to HALL OF FAME, more than any ot her UK bands. Blockbuster, Sweet Fanny Adams album, Ballroom Blitz, Fox On The Run, Love Is Like Oxygen...numerous of Great Gteat Hits, worldwide.
Yes, definitely! Linda
Hello Pete Townsend really liked Sweet before he heard this version of My Generation. He went to see them at Rainbow and even before that, he knew about them and he also knew Sweet love Who´s music. So he wanted to help them out and arrange them to play in Carlton
music//rock Festival in summer 1974, but due to Brian´s accident, it all went ruined.
But anway, they still continued to follow each other´s careers and success.
Sweet´s musical roots come from same scene as the Who´s, maybe more than roots from Deep Purple´s.
Love Sweet
Good cover, think the who would have approved!
They did. Pete Townsend invited them to a festival because of it.
diese Version ist in allen belangen besser wie das Original
they probaly done this as they missed playing with the who at charlton rock in 1974 in front of 70.000 rock fans which would have kickstarted there uk carreer and beacause of what happend to brian at that time and big mistake they never capitolised on it no uk tours or festivals after 1974 so how was the so called real rock fans ever gonna here those great albums they always had shit managers a good manager would have made them a stadium band sadly want to be, great cover.
as usual Steve kicks ass on his bass part ....He's so awesome
This is not on my copy of Desolation Boulevard!
+Bondo Mofo This the European version of Desolation Boulevard;the U.S. version was a compilation with songs from SWEET Fanny Adams, some tracks from European D. Boulevard plus Ballroom Blitz, only a 45single release in
Europe,ànd I Wanna Be Committed--a brand-new unreleased song....
Check: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desolation_Boulevard
wow-they sound just as good as the who.
Well done cover. Sweet rocks!
One of the best covers - Steve Priest Bass is in my opinion better than John Alec Entwistle of WHO in this cover
Ah chingao! Me sorprenden estos 'sayos' con esta version que la encuentro bastante mejor que la original.
prima Cover version
I had this on vinyl bought in 1975, the UJ press. Then a friend said thaT, I bowwor this Lp, and he did, without even asking me if it was ok...and I never got it back. Some friend. He was always annoying me in school. I never liked him.
What's the use of such a copy ? It adds nada, rien, nothing, nichts, niente, and isn't as good as the original. I guess the guys were in a hurry to get a 10th song for one or another album or a flip side for a single no idea....
Killer cover!
There used to be a live bootleg version of Sweet playing The Who's "I'm A Boy". I can't find it online anymore.
I wonder what 2015 My Generation song will sound like.
@Daria Hammond Exactly like this.... the song is timeless...
Damned good.
Fantastic cover and such great playing, this is what the Sweet were all about. I admit I'm biased as I adore Steve, but his bass solo here really is something special and puts a nice twist on the original. Such a shame he and the rest of the band get so little recognition despite being so talented, they were absolutely brilliant and still my favourite band.
Whenever I've heard this covered it's always worth listening out for the bass solo. This improves on the original IMO
Always liked this band. This is very punky- and very well played. Like the homage to Syd Barrett's 'Bike' at the end.
RIP Brian Conolly.
and we ain't no f.ing bubble gum band!
Bass is far better than The Who Version. The Priest makes Townsend sound like "Den Dennis" from Bad News.
Townsend? John Entwistle was bassist for The Who.
perfecto!
The solo of the base was super cool!
Sweet were always big fans of the Who,such a shame they weren't able to support them after Brian had been kicked, that might have earned them the respect that is shown now much earlier
whoa..AMAZING bass solo.
Great to hear the 70s.
Ahh the 70s. When covers of songs were made better than the original song itself.
If who fans don't like the fact that this is a better version than from their idols, tough luck. It is so they ought to deal with it.
Dyynamo
You are dreaming lol
I am a major Who fan and this is the best cover I have heard of "My Generation" and Steve Priest is an underrated bass player!
Definately!!!
best cover I ever heard 4 sure
yea my fault, while hearing my generation i thought of the who ;D
i agree the best cover i've heard...magic
John Entwhistle was the bass player of which band? Not Sweet thats for sure.
you know that john entwistle is the bass player of this band? ^^
john entwistle was the bass player for the who
best version i've ever heard!.
idk whos bass solo i love more....Jon(or john, i forget) Entwistle's, Steve Harris's, or this bands. so tough >< all are great bassists!!
@kittiesgomow33 Hoisted by your own petard methinks.
@kittiesgomow33 ERRRRRRRR do you read YOUR OWN comments and I quote from YOU as this is a copy and paste of what YOU wrote @Lrd127 it does. i would have recognized the sweet instatnly.. and thhis is NOT them...
kittiesgomow33 2 months ago in playlist The Beast Songs
So maybe you should get off your high horse and apologise. If you come out with comments like that then you stand to be contradicted/corrected by someone who can be bothered to research it and therefore knows more about it than you
@OrpheusIsThe1 I should apologize? xD Did u read my comment? i said, maybe it just didnt sound like it was them to me, because it wasnt on the actual album. i never said anything for u to contradict me about. geez
@OrpheusIsThe1 And my thinking is along those lines. Love the snippet of "singing the Blues" at the end. An old fifties number by Guy Mitchell and then Tommy Steele
@shaftsbury94
@kittiesgomow33 Sorry you are so so wrong this is The Sweet. I have just done a lot of research into it just to be totally sure and have come across MP3s of it posted all over the place and it is the same as the posting on here. I think you should now apologise and have a huge slice of humble pie.
@priffipruff what does reading have to do with this? and like i said.. maybe this just doesnt sound like them to me b/c its not the actual album, and AGAIN: it doesnt matter who does it. Its still a great song. (And some people dont have the british version thank u very much)
@Dyynamo maybe it is just how it is here, but i still like the song either way no matter who played it
@kittiesgomow33 Brians and Steves voices are very distinct and it sticks out a mile that this is them. Maybe if you got the original version of the album Desolation Boulevard and compared this track with the others on it then you'd really appreciate that it is them. The bass playing is also very different from The Who's version. Pete Townsend never really took much notice of Sweet until they released this and he became a fan of them because of it.
@Dyynamo it does sounds exactly like the Who. You can tell Brian's as well as the others' voices when you hear it, and this isnt them.
@kittiesgomow33 Really? Who is it then?
@Lrd127 it does. i would have recognized the sweet instatnly.. and thhis is NOT them...
It is ....It's on The Desolation Boulevard album. Remember it well growing up as a teenager in the seventies....and still have it !
It’s on the album
@bitcodex I'll take the risk..
@bitcodex i wasa thinking that meself, but you could run the risk of some verbals of who fans.
better than the orginal?
still big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Altanon
no, he doesn't.
and overall the ox owns anybody on bass.
but my favorite, and one of the best, is paul mccartney, the most imaginative bass player ever.
@OropherThranduil Sorry. Been playing Bass for 45 years, and Priest pwns Entwhistle on this. And I LIKE the Ox!
was in to the sweet when i was11 or 12.Best of the Glam Rock generation but only appreciated their rock & roll roots much later.Their B sides on 7" inch releases where far better than the main stream hits and cover versions like this and paper back writer better than the originals..and we are talking The Who and The Beatles here.Enough said...Most underated band ever..seriously....F.....Awsome
@Lrd127
noone compares to john entwistle, really, you suck.
the bass is god sent
@hartley8184
Very true. The American version of Desolation Boulevard was a mish mash of songs from the European Desolation Boulevard and Sweet Fanny Adams, plus a couple of singles. You should check out Sweet Fanny Adams and the European Desolation Boulevard. They are both exceptional albums in their own right.
The best version ive heard!
I love that they can do their own spin of a song and not make it sound like the original. The ending was pretty hilarious.
I love the bass.
Sweet gives this version a more rock feel .. go mick tucker and the boys
I can actually sing like Steve Priest. And I'm only 15! Sweet forever.
who you kiddin, mick tucker was a far better drummer than keith moon.
Only problem is that Mick can never stand up to the godlike drumming skills of Keith Moon.
Shut up boomer
I just heard Iron Maidens version for the first time. I'm sure most pub bands could do a lot better.
I think you'd better listen to them both again.
arguably the best cover of my generation
I agree 1,000% about Steves bass playing on this song. It has to be the greatest bass solo ever.
I prefer this over the original version... Steve Priest's bass playing is simply phenomenal
cool!!!!!
