Supremes, The - Long Gone Lover Lyrics

Long gone lover
My baby is a long gone lover
My baby is a long gone lover
My baby is a long gone, long gone

Let me tell you that he's far far away
But I think about him every day
In my dreams at night I see his face
Ain't no other guy gonna take his place
I just kiss his letter
And I feel better

He's been gone for such a long long time
But you know I'm sure that he's still mine
Though the things people say are hurting me
They're tryin' to make me think
He's deserting me
I just kiss his letter
And I feel better

Long gone lover
My baby is a long gone lover
My baby is a long gone lover
My baby is a long gone, long gone

Long gone lover
My baby is a long gone lover
My baby is a long gone lover
My baby is a long gone, long gone

I got a letter from him just this afternoon
Telling me that he'll be coming soon
Whenever I'm down and feeling bad
Whenever my heart is feeling sad
I just kiss his letter
And I feel better

Long gone lover
My baby is a long gone lover
My baby is a long gone lover
My baby is a long gone lover

  6. M.... M....

I remember back in the early 70s, I was in grade school and playing this song on my little portable record player; my Mom was almost 40, she heard the song, she never liked Motown, but she listened, and when Flo was singing those high notes at the ending, Mom said "That girl right there, is the best singer in that group."

  7. K.... M....

yasssss Flo. I am in live with this song now

  8. J.... P....

Mary Wilson sounds incredible Florence Ballard shines Diana Ross superb!!!

  9. J.... P....

It would have not been a Diana Ross with out the Supremes!!

  10. J.... P....

One of the Supremes best songs. Diana, Mary and Florence sound amazing!!!

  11. J.... M....

I love Flo on this one

  12. T.... D....

Flow brought towards the latter part of this song. I thought all of these ladies did a fine job with the song.

  13. Q.... ....

Berry Gordy should have let all their hits be sung like this, SHARE LEADS

  14. Q.... ....

wow nice vocals from Flo, God bless The Supremes

  15. v.... ....

Long Gone Casa from Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego brought me here

  16. D.... H....

I'm a fifty year plus fan of 'The Supremes' bought  ALL albums/singles & imo this  'Long Gone Lover' would be on my short list of favorites...Florence impressive here/w/ her gorgeous soulful heart felt voice.! RIP

    D.... H....

I agree this is one of there best song. They all shine!!

  17. T.... ....

    Wonderful vivacious tune!
THE SUPREMES once gain in one of their early recordings were THE FEMALE TRIO shared vocal leads & harmonies before "The Diane Ross Show" was implemented (1966/67) to build up THE BOSS (Motown Berry Gordy) "sex for stardom" allied, Diane Ross into a "solo act" in 1969!

  18. E.... ....

Yes I love the intro as well

  19. D.... E....

Yes I agree; this is definitely earlier Supreme material/recording from their "Where did I Love Go" album released in 1964; Love the intro of the song where Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson and Diana Ross all have seperate parts leading into the song and nice to hear Ballard on the end of the song; she is still my favorite Supreme

  20. g.... ....

Now who's the real child? Still you...

  21. B.... ....

Oh 'Mary', Please. I like it, you like it, but commercially, no, it doesn't have it. There? You get it now? No, I don't think you do. Now who's the real child here?

  22. g.... ....

I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was having an exchange with a child. Please continue to call me names and judge my taste, but I STILL say, young lady, that this is a great little recording! For your information, Diana Ross did do lead vocals right from the beginning. It's just in the beginning, her ego hadn't swollen to the point where Flo and Mary got to sing leads once in a while

  23. B.... ....

You have no taste and are delusional, if you think Mary's vocals are good here. That's why they recorded for a 1.5 yrs before getting a hit. We can only thank our lucky stars that Berry finally decided to make Diana the lead singer. If not, there would have been NO Supremes. You can bet on that.

  24. B.... ....

Because you're delusional and Mary's vocals ruin the track.

  25. B.... ....

Jeeeez. Fog horn Mary sounds terrible on this track. I've never liked her voice, though

  26. B.... ....

Hmmm, I'm not used to hearing them as The Supremes compared to Diana Ross and the Supremes. It sounds so much better when they don't muffle Mary and Flo's voices.

  27. M.... P....

Flo does great on this song...right MS. DIANE LOST...I mean Ross!?

Just listen to Folo's voice, fantastic!

    M.... P....

Who is this Folo that I should listen to? Folo? What did Ms. Diane actually lose?

    M.... P....

From The Beginning I've Always Listen To Flo That Song Bird In The Background.

  28. g.... ....

This tune was hot enough to be a charted single.. I wonder why it didn't chart...

    g.... ....

It was an album track and never released as a single.

  29. t.... ....

and that is what THE SUPREMES mean to me...

  30. E.... ....

Agree! WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO is a wonderful album. It contains the great, the good, the bad and the horrible.

  31. t.... ....

Days of innocence...thank you, dear friend.

  32. t.... ....

the WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO album was my introduction to THE SUPREMES! i loved all 12 tracks and fell in love with them instantly! this song showcases the vocals of MARY , FLO and DIANA!

    t.... ....

Mine, too. This was one of the best songs on the album, too, because all three women can be heard equally.

  33. E.... ....

    Great early Supremes track!
