Supremes, The - He's All I Got Lyrics

You're a girl that hates to see others happy
Unless you're happy too
So you've told the boy I love
A lot of things that ain't true

And its' wringing my heart
Cos it's making us drift apart
So humbly I ask of you
To undo the wrong that you've done

Please go to him, tell him
Before he finds someone new
Cos if I ever lose him
I don't know what I'll do

Cos he's all I got
Built my world around him
Since the day I found him

Girl your selfishness causes unhappiness
But why make it hard for me?
Since you been unhappy in love
I guess misery loves company

For once in your life
Consider another's feelings
Confess the truth
That you've been concealing

Please go to him, tell him
Before he finds someone new
Cos if I ever lose him
I don't know what I'll do

Cos he's all I got
Built my world around him
Since the day found him

I would gladly go to him
Instead of asking you
But there might be a shadow of a doubt
Your gossip might have been true

So tearfully I ask of you
Please undo the wrong that you've done
Cos without his love
I know, I know I can't go on

Please go to him, tell him
Before he finds someone new
Cos if I ever lose him
I don't know what I'll do

Cos he's all I got
Built my world around him
Since the day found him
Can't bear to lose him

Cool song. The songs “plot” is fairly sophisticated. A gossipy girl has broken up Diana’s relationship but she didn’t get the guy herself. Diana’s asking the gossip girl to make things right.

The "Symphony" album was perfectly done, a superb sampling of the group stretching for standards, done so well their teenage fans didn't dislike it a bit, with just enough helping of the familiar HDH sound. It set the stage for the equally superb - and criminally underrated - Rogers & Hart album a year later.

@supremesfan2- There is a mono version of that album?  I'm confused.  I'm used to the album cut, I guess the stereo version.  I don't play my singles unless I have to.

+Ron Rossmore During that time on front of the album cover on top it would say STEREO but if it did not say that then it was MONO.

There is a mono version of _every_ Supremes album up through _Reflections_ in April 1968, but the closer you get to that date, the more rare any remaining mono vinyl versions become.

The industry began phasing out duplicate mono and stereo versions in June 1967 by raising the price of the mono albums to equal that of the stereo ones (mono had always been, previously, about a dollar cheaper). As for singles, Motown's weren't consistently transitioned to stereo until the start of 1973. Other majors - RCA, Capitol and Columbia - switched a year or so earlier.

Littler companies like the New Jersey-based All Platinum/Stang were still putting out 45s like Shirley & Co's "Shame Shame Shame" and The Moments "Look At Me I'm In Love" in mono as late as 1975.

@Dave dvlaries - Thanks Dave.  I had no idea.  I understood the reason for a mono mix, obviously, and I guess as stereo equipment evolved, stereo was bound to take over.

Interesting!  That time period is unique to those artists and the product they created.  A hassle to maximize sales--like the different versions of the same song that came years later.

I agree completely.   The "I Hear A Symphony" album was a near perfect Supremes album. The harmonies are elegant and  sophisticated and Diana's voice is showcased without diminishing the importance of Mary and Florence's contribution.
