Styx - Krakatoa Lyrics

Krakatoa you've changed your ways
from evil days.
Oh I know a once violent isle
and gentle smile.
When the dust and lava cooled
you were sterile as the rock from which the earth was tooled.
Was man's beginning a wind borne spore
to fly no more?
Nature's winning her docile spree
has set her free.
Seeds were wafted on the wind
forming heavy undergrowth for species winged and finned.
Tangled mangles rebuilt your soil
from age dead toil.
Sheltered bay coves protecting life
from Satan's knife.
Grow and island in the sun
where the hell fire belching earth had destructively left none.

    Steffan Pila

Yes, John Curuleweski on lead vocals in this song. You're right, Gemini16th, John Curulewski sounds more sinister in this song than Lord Of The Rings. Cheers!!!

  7. G.... H....

    The serpent is listening.

  8. P.... W....

Not too shabby for a band that far too many wrote off as "artistically excessive", when it wasn't cool.  EVERY voice on the Hallelujah Chorus is indeed the members of Styx. And if you didn't see and feel the mother ship landing just between the 2 songs, better check your freakin' pulse!  Incredible!

  9. d.... l....

How about the song 'Krakatoa" from around 1:07 til fully realized at 1:40. It was bought by George Lucas from Styx (made some money there before their fame) and used as the THX Theme Logo Music.

  10. L.... C....

    THX much?...

    L.... C....

@Leonel Cantú de Llano This has so much more depth and texture compared to the THX Deep Note. It's superior to Deep Note. In fact, I'll bet it would sound killer in a THX-rated system!

    L.... C....

The THX song is called "Deep Note" and was written (stolen?) by Dr.
James A. Moorer in 1983, a full 10 years after this album was released.

  11. g.... ....

Early Styx had some badass album tracks, like this one. The late John Curlewski on vocals- sounds more sinister than Saruman's mutterings in The Lord of The Rings..

  12. C.... S....

This was also done on the tabernacle organ, the most famous instrument for the tabernacle choir. It gave me chills hearing that low high mixture before the hallelujah chorus starts. What a great way to express the gothic sense.

    C.... S....

    Chris Sorensen ..agree!

  13. F.... ....

This album is pretty bad. A few mild moments, but you can see why it never sold more than 100,000 and why De Young hated it. lol

    F.... ....

I like it for the most part, it’s got more good than bad IMO.

  14. M.... ....

Did she tell you what Styx meant?

  15. T.... ....

That actually comes from a song called "Spaced" from a 1970 album by Beaver & Krause called "In a Wild Sanctuary." Styx credits Beaver & Krause as the composers on the album. As of this moment it can be found on youtube. The THX song is called "Deep Note" and was written (stolen?) by Dr. James A. Moorer in 1983, a full 10 years after this album was released.

  16. T.... ....

Good thing you didn't play "Plexiglass Toilet" for her instead.

    T.... ....

On his banana it will land.

  17. 0.... ....

YES Dennis should come back again!!!

  18. 0.... ....

Ciao The Marioman, I'm a convinced Evangelical...and Love styx :-))) So no religious problem whit Dennis De Young and Co

  19. W.... ....

    lmao was not krusty

  20. H.... ....

Only the word genius can be used to describe Styx. More specifically Dennis DeYoung. That magic is gone from the current lineup of the band and we are left with a shell of what should still be a power house band. The Wooden Nickel albums, besides Lady, need to get much more attention then they do. This planted the seeds of this great band. They could have that magic again, but only if they were to bring Dennis back.

  21. C.... S....

For some who don't know Krakatoa the volcano erupted in 1883 which completely leveled the mountain in one single explosion. It was so loud, that people three thousand miles away heard it. Also leveling the nearby villages. Death toll was in the thousands. So this does make a symmetrical match during the eruption. But this group is the all time classic of classical genre. Fantastic band.

  22. P.... B....

@redpaul79 i'm very familiar with Lady (aka styx 2) which sounded NOTHIN like this whacked out Tull shit

  23. H.... ....

@redpaul79 The only singer that is different is John Curuelski, He was the guitarist before Tommy Shaw joined the band. From 1970-1975 right before the tour to support Equinox, JC left the band and they FRANTICALLY searched for a new guitarist. The reason they sound different is because in the Wooden Nickel recordings, like this, they were going for a more progressive rock style.

  24. a.... ....

wow dennis and JY do Amazing harmonies

  25. P.... B....

who the fuck is signing on all these songs? sounds like freakin Krusty the Klown...
where's dennis de youing for god's sake?

    P.... B....

Paul Bridgewater only knows Lady, Babe, and Mr. Roboto, so forgive his confusion when someone other than Dennis sings.

    P.... B....

After Denis ruined Styx he went on to obscurity trying to fulfill his Broadway singer ambitions. Took his BS english singing accent with him.

  26. M.... ....

Krakatoa...huge volcanic eruption on 8/27/1883...does make an interesting prelude to the Hallelujah Chorus...

  27. A.... J....

I had an English Debate class in college, and some girl (apparently an Evangelical of some flavor) was railing against "...these rock bands..." for their "...bad influence and evil ways." I brought my 8-track tape of this album and 8-track player and played the Hallelujah Chorus for the entire class. I asked, "Who is this artist?" Nobody knew. I said, "It's Styx, one of THOSE rock bands." Everybody in class looked at that girl. Her opinion was changed that day...that moment...forever.

  28. T.... ....

@jhowerton123 You're right about that. To me Styx was the best band of the 70's. Hands down, no contest.

  29. M.... ....

never knew they sang that! cool
