Styx - Castle Walls Lyrics
Once in a dream
Far beyond these castle walls
Down by the bay where the
Moonlit water falls
I stood alone while the minstrel sang his song
There in the fog his song kept calling me
Leading me on with its haunting melody
Deep in my heart a voice kept echoing
I knew I'd soon be wandering
Far beyond these castle walls
Where the distant harbour meets the sky
There the battle raged like hell
And every dove had lost its will to fly
Far beyond these castle walls
Where I thought I heard Tiresias say
Life is never what it seems
And every man must meet his destiny

Styx Castle Walls Comments
Kaos One!!
Every time I hear Castle walls I wait for the track to switch still. Because when I bought this album it was an 8 track is in the middle of in the last part of Castle walls it switched over during that long jam
Try to join to my rock channel bro..
This is not Babe , thank God ;
THE BLADE RUNNERS FROM UWF!!!!!
I'm new to Styx. But I can already tell the guy with the fro was the grooviest one in the group.
The best way to listen to this song is go see Dennis do the whole frickin album straight thru. I know it ain't JY and Tommy but it was excellent!
the book "the hobbit" was a big influence to a lot of bands and rock music in the late 60's through the 70's. Styx Castle Wall is a textmode to this as Jimmy Hendricks "All along the watchtower" and Led Zeppelin many references to Mordor and the book
Every man must meet his destiny.
Styx sin Dennis Deyoung para mí no es styx
Un álbum excelente de styx mientras viva lo escucharé
It's amazing that Dennis DeYoung could go from writing songs like this and Queen of Spades, Pieces of Eight, etc. to writing songs like Babe, Mr. Roboto, Show Me the Way, and not to mention all the Broadway crap. I love Dennis, but I understand why Tommy and JY can't work with him anymore.
One of the best rock albums EVER. How is Styx not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? If this was the only album they ever made, that alone would make them worthy.
Yeaaa..you right.come whach my rock site music.
Probably my favorite styx album just starting to listen to them all though
I'm coming to your wedding
Oh my youth!
She's on Fireeeeeeee

One of the best along with Miss America and Man in the Wilderness.
I’m only 23 but damn I’m blessed to have grown up with such great music thanks mom and dad haha
I recently saw them, and it was a total disappointment. They sounded great, but it was a show for the radio fans.
I wore out an 8 track of this album when younger, and this was my favorite song. I have seen them do this with the new line up on a vid but not when I saw them. They did one song off of Equinox. Light up. Not exactly their most rocking song, but no Lorali, madam blue, midnight ride, or born for adventure. My understanding was that they were only playing up to pieces of eight. They did Blue collar man, and renegade, but no queen of spaids. Towards the end they did something off paradise theater, but we hoped the Encore would be madam blue, or at least Lorali. Now we didn't hold out hope for this song. 1st Encore.... Mr Roboto. Without even looking at each other my wife, and I stood up, and left. Sooooo disapointed. They are on the casino circuit so it's just make money tours now. Lost a lot of respect for them especially when in numerous interviews they said how much they hated that song. So if you decide to see them anytime soon you can expect this.
This music is all about taking one’s brain on an adventure
Mr President, if your ever going to make America great again, your gonna have to start with the music.
This was the second Styx album I owned (Equinox was the first). This was also the first tour of theirs that I saw. Awesome! Always thought that this song and "Man In The Wilderness" were two of their best songs.
The Powers of Pain brought me here
As a kid, I listened to this song many nights, wondering where life would take me. Now I know, but when I hear this song, it shoots me back through time to being 14 and... wondering.
The best album of Styx
Thanks so much for the upload! Bomb ass song. My fave
Styx getting with the prog! Yes, they were good at prog rock too, wish they had done more of it. Superb.
Grand Illusion was the very first 8 track I bought!
4 platinum records ,only the Beatles did the same..
What an amazing song and album ! For the longest time I only knew their radio hits, got this vinyl this summer and damn ! As a guitarist and keyboardist I find these riffs so tasty \m/
awesome thats it:)
Nobody gonna mention how john carpenter mimicked the Halloween theme from this song?
And those haters say Dennis only write pop and Broadway songs... (yes, including you JY and TS!!)
Why are deep tracks always the best?
Tommy Shaw made Styx so much better than what they were. Before he joined all they had was lady. After he joined, he made them hall of fame material!
The song happens
DENNIS DE YOUNG un gran incomprendido....
What an album. When it came out I went and saw them three times. Great shows.
10/10 would recommend listening to this song while stoned af
Oh no not someone who thinks you have to be stoned to listen to amazing music, look if that's your choice so be it! But isn't the music the drug? Let the music take you somewhere for a while not a narcotic!! It really works man!
@Doug Reed you've never listened to this song while stoned
Unicorn hunting music!
Cam'ron Intro off purple Haze album, plus Ja Rule dial m for murder
Long time ago this was the very first song, I heard from Styx and I was blown away...
Such an epic and powerful tune!
Imagine, how was I dissapointed, when finished whole Styx discography and voila! had not found anything familiar...
How the hell this miracle has happened with such a band?!
this is Styx contribution to the book the hobbit. Jimmy Hendricks sang about it in all along the watch tower and Led Zeppelin sang about it too this is Styx's contribution to it. A book that was written 1937 that influenced generations
I set a double weightlifting record national and world record someone posted this great Styx song. Great band!!!
Dennis did this song in concert.....was AMAZING!!
Many a night, lights down low. Adult beverage. Or bowl burning. Koss headphones on. Perched in my easy chair and this on reel to reel..... cranked to 8+....
Better days of my life. DAMN shame NOBODY makes music THIS good anymore.
Anyone else wonder about the Tiereass(sp). As a prophet it fits.....and he was supposedly turned into a woman for 7yrs. Mebbe I'm over reaching here...but I Shaw(pun alert!) Tommy do some pretty gay shit on stage.....!?
this definitly my favorite Styx song, that middle portion blows you away!
Great song here. I really like the electric guitar . Also, the fantastic keyboard ...but one question,
"Was that one keyboard session, tweaked for the movie *Halloween* *theme* *song* ?
Makes one ponder...
The Blade Runners brought me here.
I noticed that this is the seventh song on the seventh studio album by Styx, released on 7/7/1977.
The Blade Warriors Sting and The Ultimate Warrior
Is this where they got the Halloween theme music...?
They still play this song live, to this day, that def says something about its power...
Yes, One of my all time favorite Styx songs, along with Man In the Wilderness.....
Nina is so spot on! I would love to buy you a concert ticket. I saw this tour 2017.
Probably my favorite cut from The Grand Illusion, which was a fantastic album across the board. Proud to be a 1977 baby.
Great song to run to. And also Queen of Spades.
One of the best Styx tracks of all time
The Styx tunes are really taking off on YouTube, with the next generation now finding them.
Perhaps the most epic song, ever.
Agree but don't forget Salisbury by Uriah Heep, it's another epic cut from a few years before this one.
Original Styx, the best!
@2:40 I think john carpenter ripped this off (Halloween )😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
潜在意識の奥深くまで、えぐりこむような作品で、シュールかつ「人生は見かけ通りではなく、出逢わなければならない運命もある。」の意味も分かる。ティレシアスは言う。
im gonna sample this for a beat
Saw them at the Philadelphia Spectrum in 1980. Phenomenal show. The most underrated band of the late 70s genre.
2:27...Surgical Gloves!! #TheALCismyspiritanimal
Nothing better than listening to this song with quality headphones on!👍
Or a bad-assed sound system shaking the rafters
Awesome tune!
STYX was my first concert in 1979. Simply amazing band!!
The original Halloween movie in 1978 ripped off this song's bridge for the whole main theme. starting at 2:38.
Do you remember that this and Bat out of hell was released at the same time? Pure magic, my friends.
2:41 Halloween
Halloween 2:40
I think the song on the Emerson, Lake and Powell album, "Searchin' For A Miracle" - took a lot from this song. .. It is also in C minor.
For some reason, this song always moves me to tears.
Love the old vibes I'm getting from the comments, mostly people triple my age, really shows how influential these guys were (and apparently still are since I'm a 1997 kid)..
Just saw them recently, well last winter. They did almost everything I wanted to hear except this one. They did do Man In The Wilderness however and it is nearly as epic as this one.
2:44 Micheal Myers?
This came out first tho
Masterpiece of an album!
2:40 kicks my ass!!!
Yes, it's the Halloween movie theme music. This came out first tho. John carpenter ripped it off
If anyone has Quello, you MUST see this concert!!!!!!! Styx is just like Rush, you can't tell the difference between Studio version and Live!! Excellent musicians!
lauries scott tissue
the rolling stones song miss you
michael doug jody
Sure sounds hella like a John Carpenter piece, but with the biggest words
This came out first
Was born in Ireland. Castles everywhere. Came 2 the U.S. Castle walls with Styx rock
The middle synth part sounds like the Halloween movie theme music. This came out first in 77. Halloween was 78.
I thought I was the only one!
What a tune!
The album I just heard by Styx if Beethoven was still alive and heard this piece this work this masterpiece I'm telling you Beethoven would have been impressed highly in pressed was say indubitably impressed he would be in Mensa fide on how well this piece is like I'm no fan of gospel I just like rock and roll man that's where it's at but I say this piece was phenomenal and music is a way of life yes it is a true art when maximum at its best is performed at its highest this group reminds me a lot of planted by yes and it's a piece that would be listing to for internity if I could but you know as much as I know I'd never hear it for eternity cuz I won't live that long but still I'll hear it on and on and I gained others from our new future would get involved with this piece and listen to what music is really a creative piece of art thank you
Once in a dream.
2 songs on this album were skipped Castle Walls and Man in the wilderness . Both rock and have for 40 years.Ive been listing to Styx since the early 70s
The keyboard has a Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells sound too it. Loved listening to the eight track as a kid with the head phones on!
first learned music!
Peace pot and micro dot RIP Ricky Clark
song pumps me way way up every time!!
I stood alone..while the minstrel sang his song...so afraid I'd lost my soul..........
This, band is one OF THE most experimental AND beautiful mixing Sounds EVER AND one OF my personal love one, l love then EVER even THE new Music is pure STYX, they dont need Dennis, sorry but im my opinión that THE way to go im been lisenet to then all my live front THE beginig AND they still Sound like Styx.
Definitely one of their best - I hope DdY does it tonight at the show! https://www.fordtheatres.org/calendar/dennis-deyoung-grand-illusion-40th-anniversary-album-tour
Love this album....my belief is that Styx's "Grand Illusion" & Kansas's "Leftoverture" are two of the most iconic recordings of the 1970's. they even rival Pink Floyds "Dark Side of the Moon" as far as popularity goes. Three awesome albums that any music buff should own for sure.
every song on this album is a masterpiece, except ms america, this has to be in the top 10 of albums ever
ABBA Could sing this :P
