I was a Judas Priest fan in the 80s. I loved heavy metal. When I gave my heart to Jesus Christ, it was about a relationship with God through his Son Jesus Christ. I don't consider myself "religious," it is just simply that my life was transformed. I was still the same person, but I had a new desire to love others with the love of Christ. I am not perfect, I just strive to be a better person everyday. In reality, we all adhere to some form of religion, which means we all have some type of belief system. I encourage you to check out the Bible for yourself. There is a verse in the Bible that a friend of mine shared with me, Romans 10:9. My friend and I were both addicted to alcohol and drugs and our lives were completely changed and we went down a new path. I still enjoy secular and Christian music. Lots of good music to listen to. You seem benign enough, so I'll spare you the debate I unusually engage in with fundies...unless you're down for it. Though I DO wish more christians would try to "talk about Jesus" with me (a former christian, btw) online and especially IRL. Suffice to say, I am firmly convinced religion does far more harm to humanity than good. Unlike believers, I let the FACTS determine by beliefs, not the other way around.
On a personal note. Though I'm happy you were able to use religion to kick your addiction(s), MUCH of my animosity to religion is sustained by an alcoholic I know and love who has tried to do the same and is failing miserably at it. The REASON she is failing is because she has chosen to "leave it in God's hands" (and that of the local 'AA' church group she sometimes attends) rather than actually getting the mental health therapy she truly needs to understand herself.
And this is the problem with religion, especially christianity. If you "let Jesus take the wheel", that means YOU are not in control of your life. Be it your blind adherence to BIGOTED right-wing political propaganda, or an inability to face down your own personal, psychological "demons", religion BLINDS believers to the truth right in front of them.

BTW, the SUREST way to create an atheist is to read the bible, cover to cover...

You nailed it. We have a racist, PATHOLOGICALLY lying con-man who judges human beings as winners or losers based on criteria that only a sociopath or "Satan" could create and is supported primarily by Christians, avowed racists and haters of all varieties. His only policies are to cut taxes on the wealthy, ban this or that group and rubber stamp right wingers to run his administration, regardless of their incompetence as proven by reality. If I were a believer, clearly Trump is a surrogate of Satan who is leading his followers to hell.

Even if one accepts (I do not) that our countries problems are the fault of this group or that religion or dumb losers, so what, then what??? How does telling entire groups of people that they're defective and not worth our collective effort to treat you as human, void of love, going to help make America great???

All of his supporters have failed to even grasp 1 move in advance while living in denial about the modern word so let me help...

Genocide and/or racial/cultural/religious conflict is not an option and yet that is the only logical path that Trump type of thinking can lead to.

The only path forward is if we as a species learn to work together and help each other, even the "losers"

Just to steer it back on topic though, Stryper was (at the time) a conservative answer to "satanic" Metal tropes. I remember the 80s well as a time when "christian values" were on the rise, which did play a part in that "satanic" rebellion, according to many scholars of music. Just as punk was a form of rebellion before that.
However, our current political cluster-fuck can be directly traced to the Reagan/Thatcher era and its alignment of greed with conservative christians, AKA: christian Libertarianism. Part of WHY Trump rose has to do with this confusion among American christians who believe, "Jesus wants you to be prosperous!". They've also come to believe that PROGRESS is evil...thus income equality and to a greater extent, marriage equality are demonized.

Their embrace of Trump has Nazi Germany written all over it. Then, as now, the fascist was a "christian" who USED a confused political climate, along with virulent Nationalism, to stoke the flames of hate and bigotry. But really, bigotry is built right into religion, at least the Abrahamics. Because only the "chosen few" are seen as righteous in the end, and all others are seen as mere "dry twigs for the fire" (John 15:6)

Everybody is a member of some religion. In it's basic definition religion is a belief system. If you believe religion is a fairy tale, that in itself is religion. I like the idea of Deism although I was casually raised Christian. The way I see it, be a good person and do your best to better the world. God or no God, actions speak louder than words or worshipping some sort of idol.
