Streets, The - Alleged Legends Lyrics
Some people live their lives by a little red book
The points for right lying out and guides them good
They never really mimic every word by eye
'Cuz if they did they'd be in a whole world of strife
The book's quite old school, but then it was tough
The thinking people are thinking that without this book
That without these verses we'd pillage and murder but,
Following this red book word for word
Leads you to actually pillage and murder
Could it be so what we think to be right,
Is simply the opinion that survived?
Do what you think's right, and you will feel alright
'Cuz when you're bad you will feel sad
That's the religion I live by
There's a bloke in the book who made everything
He knows every individual and every trick in them
Way above emotion, never getting stressed
But when men choose against him, gets jealous
People fight for him in crippling wars
But since he has the power of infinite awe
We're merely itching on futilities floor
Should we really be needing to assist him at all?
If he loves us all, knowing all we think
Should he only like people with faith in him?
Given I can't control what I truly believe,
Can I be forgiven for only believing who I see?
Do what you think's right, and you will feel alright
'Cuz when you're bad you will feel sad
That's the religion I live by
Do what you think's right, and you will feel alright
'Cuz when you're bad you will feel sad
That's the religion I live by
Could it be time to avoid this bush?
So we wouldn't be blind when joining up coulds
Could we see both sides of the coin for the good?
Breed less strife on our voyage for good?
Getting threatened by men with questions
We'll never get anywhere rejecting evidence
Could we test everything instead of betting,
On alleged legends?
If we teach that it's right to blindly believe
If we reach to the sky to define our meaning
Well I agree what's right will keep driving people to fight with people
Do what you think's right, and you will feel alright
'Cuz when you're bad you will feel sad
That's the religion I live by

CORRECT LYRICS:
Some people live their lives by a little red book
The points for right lying out and guides them good
They never really mimic every word by eye
'Cuz if they did they'd be in a whole world of strife
The book's quite old school, but then it was tough
It contains some quite experimental justice
The thinking people are thinking that without this book
That without these verses we'd pillage and murder but,
Following this red book word for word
Leads you to actually pillage and murder

^CORRECT LYRICS^
in my opinion to believe in God is fine, but to believe in any of the gods mentioned in a book is beyond retarted!!!!!
probably (ESPECIALLY) in todays world the best and most sensible song ever written. I love Mike (I ain't gay or out) haha
so where are you tonighit chris mass coming profit lost but we,re a waitin show your soul . slam us a rhym
Andrea Jones thats a hell of a comment
some of the lyrics in the description are slightly off..
Mike Skinner. Legend
Insightful song!!
This is one of my favourite songs. Why? Because it brings a point across. A very valid point, too.
what point? that he doesn't understand christians or God.
yes....
pretty sure its just about religion
'Following this red book word for word
Leads you to actually pillage and murder' ............Is this true?
Did you heard in 0:56 someone coughing? Or is it my imaginery? :D
the invention of lying.
This hit me personally. This religious and philosophical view is beautiful, intelligent, and my view is incredibly similar.
what a great meaning that he expresses
so true. Fuck athiesm yeah. nice one mike
fuck atheism??? i thought it has the opposite opinion??
Martin Procter you're right.
that guy must be deaf or something
@yipyipR ts not about chairman Mao, its about the bible why else would he say 'can i be forgiven for only believing in who i see' refering to god and the little red book is a pocket guide to the bible , although mao did make his little red book it is about the bible
pure awesome, I listen to this on my mp3 player 3+ times a day. It mirrors my thoughts on the insanity people call religion.
well you sir are gonna burn in hell for eternity!!!!!
joke, any recognised RELIGION is pure bull shit!!!
you have no evidence for your baseless and inane assertion.
@mackoftoronto Idk how people got 9/11... unless they're referring to it as one act of violence created by religion. Thats only one of many though, so not worth mentioning. Also, this could apply to any of the big 3 monotheist religions, not just Christianity. They're all plagues.
There is nothing wrong with believing in something, whatever it is. It is very wrong to use the thing you believe in as a alibi to hurt others or yourself. As far as I'm concerned, I could understand someone believing in a potato as a tool to lead his/her life, as long as you don't throw the potato to another one's head if he/she believes in something else.
it'd about christianity & the bible's "alleged legends"
@killcs I don't think so, that's just about Christianity, at least I understand it like this!
@djole70 A dude with a Jamba song as a favorite will never understand the meaning! The song is one of the most intelligent one I've ever heard.
@TheJasenator Dude Buddhists burned themselves alive as protest in Vietnam. Chill guys.
@NightmareKingz LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Hip hop is like the dumbest genre, of course its not hip hop.
@TheJasenator even bhuddists? Hare Krishnas?
@chelmsleyu dude try atmosphere and all them, brother ali, pos
@MrMrCannabliss well said.... listen to the lyrics and tell me it doesn't get you thinking, in comparison to "i get bitches and hoes and cars YE YE YE!" : /
@kimbosmum
wow this is ignorant. Ummm no slavery had nothing to do with christianity. They were victims of slavery themselves, wake up and realize christians are persecuted all over the globe.
You really should study history before making a claim to know history.
i fuckin hate religion and i despise christianity this song is exactly how i feel towards religion
He is offically the UKs number one urban street poet
nice one! tbh i never knew the name for his style. all i know is that he's a legend :)
can i just say this isnt rap, it isnt hiphop, mike skinner isnt a "rapper" its a style created by him, stop trying to compare!
its against religion....
why do we need artists like this in the US? We sell the streets in our stores, i don't want an imitation, something about English rap sounds great on top of mike skinner being a genius. I love Eminems new album for the most part, sometimes i want to think, othertimes i want to hear good sounds while L-riding down the L.I.E.
this tune is referring to the 9/11 inside job and following wars i think.. but im german it might be i dont understand properly
"Do what you think's right, and you will feel alright. Cause when you are bad, you will feel sad. That's the religion i live by" It has become my god damn motto ! :)
strongest person i know is good too
Dawkins is always right!
"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." - Richard Dawkins
fuckin buzzin tune mate
na it ent the best track on the album
i reckon you obv need to listen to the album again.
everything is borrowed is the best new tune and the strongest person i know.
safe mate
