Sting - Practical Arrangement Lyrics

Am I asking for the moon?
Is it really so implausible?
That you and I could soon
Come to some kind of arrangement?

I'm not asking for the moon
I've always been a realist
When it's really nothing more
Than a simple rearrangement

With one roof above our heads
A warm house to return to
We could start with separate beds
I could sleep alone or learn to
I'm not suggesting that we'd find
Some earthly paradise forever
I mean how often does that happen now
The answer's probably never
But we could come to an arrangement
A practical arrangement
And you could learn to love me
Given time

I'm not promising the moon
I'm not promising a rainbow
Just a practical solution
To a solitary life

I'd be a father to your boy
A shoulder you could lean on
How bad could it be
To be my wife?

With one roof above our heads
A warm house to return to
You wouldn't have to cook for me
You wouldn't have to learn to
I'm not suggesting that this proposition here
Could last forever
I've no intention of deceiving you
You're far too clever
But we could come to an arrangement
A practical arrangement
And perhaps you'd learn to love me
Given time

It may not be the romance
That you had in mind
But you could learn to love me
Given time

who are the 92 assh*** who put a thumb down ?!!!! this is one the most moving songs I've ever heard

Oh my goodness. this is our practical arrangement, you see...

  3. A.... H....

    ❤❤❤❤❤😢

  4. A.... S....

Ein Lied das in diesen Zeiten wohl vielen Leuten aus der Seele spricht. Nur das große Glück zählt, man übersieht so leicht die kleinen Dinge die verbinden...

  5. A.... S....

This song both in music and lyrics is a literal gut punch, it's about memories and lost opportunities and it doesn't matter what race you are or gender or orientation this song will make you feel something and that's the whole point. Especially if you're over 40 this song makes you feel like you just survived your own personal Trainwreck and are left to deal with the aftermath

Love Sting's sophisticated lyrics and sincere, subtle delivery. Quite a refresher from the usual over-the-top, coarse and hyperbolic music of today. Sting would have been a comfortable contender for National Song Stylist aside Sinatra.

  8. A.... F....

    Love you Sting

  9. N.... T....

    Heartbreaking

Simply a masterpiece. Heart breaking. Suggestive. Sensitive to extreme. Here's a fusion-progr-metal drummer speaking.

This is a “Simpish” song. All the Fish Taco will do is pop out a couple of kids, divorce u and take half and put u on child support and alimony.

  20. G.... R....

Such a wonderfully SAD song. Itr makes me so sad, yet the song is beautiful & full of hope...

  21. B.... ....

heard it on the radio first time yesterday and was shocked I never heard this before. Such an emotional song and great voice by Sting

  22. y.... a....

    Awesome

  23. W.... T....

I burst into tears when I first heard this as it's exactly how I feel about somebody whom I have fallen a little bit in love with but there is nothing that be done about it AND I have no idea if she knows how I feel.  I see her infrequently & this old heart flips.

  24. R.... ....

I came here after watching Salvador and Luisa's interview in RTP 1 :D

    R.... ....

    Same XD

    R.... ....

    Rui Carvalho hahahah eu também!

  25. C.... R....

    God bless you Sting

  26. K.... L....

Astonishingly simple, direct, and perfect. This is what happens when a great artist looks straight at an emotion and lets it run through his art.

  27. L.... R....

This is the most beautiful song and lyrics I have heard in ages. A real melody!Sting just brings me to tears.Unique.

  28. R.... ....

desgarradoramente perfecta solo llegemos a un arreglo

  29. C.... F....

Beautiful tune. Sting was great in "The Last Ship" ; great talent writing, dancing, singing....what can't that man do? LOVED IT in NYC!!

  30. R.... B....

.Branford Marsalis & Kurt Elling's stellar performance of this song brought me here, and I honestly think they did it better

    R.... B....

Ron Barzilai I also caught them at the Monterey Jazz Festival and I also think they did it better. Such a beautiful song. Bravo Sting.

    R.... B....

Totally agree. I love Sting, but I just think that he was rushing with such beautiful lyrics.

    R.... B....

    Ron html.

    R.... B....

I agree Ahmed. A song like this definitely needs to be sung slower, give the words more weight. It sounds like he's badgering the object of his affection more than offering a 'practical arrangement'

    R.... B....

I'll have to listen to Marsalis's and Elling's rendition, but to be fair, this was composed to be sung in a musical. That's what would have been on Sting's mind, and in a theatrical setting, while slow songs are a must, you never want to take it so slow that it slows the pace of the production. Actually, I rather like Sting's tempo because rather than being "sung," the text is almost spoken - it feels a little "Sunday in the Park with George" to me. :) Regardless, this song is a masterpiece.

  31. G.... Y....

    This is perfection

  32. s.... i....

brilliant song about two lost people

  33. d.... ....

This song makes me cry like a little bitch... I don't know why I find it so sad, but it's the combination of hope, desperation and something else I can't put my finger on to.

    d.... ....

Strike "like a little bitch" and this is a lovely sentiment. Frankly, just stop using that statement; it doesn't speak well of you.

    d.... ....

Naomi B-Y Hey, listen.. if he want to express himself in that fashion LET HIM.
Come down from your high horse

  34. P.... ....

This is realistic love..Love without delusions and fairy tales. Love is amazing but only of you accept the fact that no human being is perfect...it takes work and selflessness...

  35. m.... d....

    so beautiful this song

  36. J.... J....

I've always enjoyed Sting's work, but this song just floors me. To me, it reveals a true genius for composition and lyrics, but it also shows the depth of his voice. This is definitely one of the top 5 songs of my life. Beautiful beyond words.

  37. S.... H....

    so beautifull............

  38. A.... N....

    The perfect proposal song ..

  39. M.... B....

Humility and modesty without the mystifications about love. Very rare in the sea of romantically exalted love songs.

    M.... B....

    Marija Branković brilliant!

  40. S.... W....

Out of all Sting's works, I'm gonna admit that this is the most richest in emotion of them all... You can disagree, but this one has specific meanings reflecting on my life when i listen to it, so this doesn't speak for everyone. Different ears hear different things.

    S.... W....

+Speggy Wee Yes, you can relate to it, we get it............. What I dont get is the "Different ears hear different things", everyone hears the same, its just what they choose to take on board or not, and of course, there is the argument of subjective interpretation, but it is not as strong an argument in all cases, especially when there is a clear message.

  42. D.... H....

Something so quiet and sad and beautiful and wonderful.

  43. V.... M....

Great song, great lyrics. Just about people yearning for love, even in unfavourable circumstances...

  44. G.... O....

Words of this song make me so melancholy. Amazing song, really.

  45. M.... B....

And I see an angel in the sky, is going straight on me and you :)

  46. l.... f....

This song is just like my life. My "Practical Arrangement" to a 12 years younger woman than I was never accepted, so now I'm all alone and old with only hollow memories of intention ...... At least my life has been done in a song ... Thank you Sting.

  47. K.... A....

This song is amazing. It's so beautifully desperate.

    K.... A....

    @Keith A Sanford I wouldn't call it desperate.

  48. 3.... ....

Ileż miłości w tych słowach...do tej kobiety... Piękna pieśń.

    Why Sting?

  50. L.... O....

wow. the old man can still make beautiful songs.

  51. E.... D....

Que canción impresionante. Excelente, como todo lo que compone e interpreta Sting. Hubiera merecido un Gramy

  53. A.... K....

I just love this music! Thank you so much for this brilliant song!

  54. K.... P....

Man, there's a time a song hits hard and wow this one does it it in so many levels! I'm just celebrating my thirties, and looking back, I wouldn't be ready for this song before and neither am truly today. It takes life to understand this, to have failed, and grown from it. How often does a song ever graces the ones who've ended here. (It's usually the romantic encounter that is sang). I've thankfully haven't gotten there, but I can see that with age things are a little more complicated and we have to simplify them and thrive to be happy, encountered this with my mom, with a new friend, a single lady with an young son. I hope that this shines the days to the ones who've found them in this position and more songs of older life, shines the young as the natives indians pray respects to the elder's wisdom. As for Sting, this is an art lesson to what every artist should strive for, to move people, represent them and allow them to see things in a different perpective, and he did an entire broadway show for gods sake with amazing track and stories. Thank you for presenting new to me after thirty years!

  55. t.... ....

The duet version with Jo Lowry really gives a different twist to this song. It's so hauntingly real either way. Love the entire album and this is my fave!

  56. N.... ....

I'd say YES! It wouldn't take much time, I'm there!

  57. D.... L....

    so clever and sensitive

  58. M.... ....

    THIS is songwriting.

  59. E.... P....

  60. s.... ....

    Really Great Song !!!!

  61. C.... G....

    so hauntingly beautiful

  62. A.... R....

Damn it... Those are some truly sincere lyrics. How can someone come up with words like that if he hasn't lived through a similar situation?

    A.... R....

This showef his sensitivity and incredible empathy

  63. D.... K....

    Masterpiece.... coming from a man....

  64. P.... U....

2 saddest parts about this song is:
    1. it's totally idealistics
    2. the ending spoiled on the 10th song in the album, and it broke me badly

Sting is such storyteller I never found another in my 20-years time of life.

  65. m.... ....

    ive always been a realist...................

  66. M.... H....

Maybe sting should find a good osteopath and straighten out his ideas. Couples should sleep together in the same room at least. What is his problem?

    M.... H....

    @Marlis Holmes
You're welcome, and it's been really nice to do :)
A bit of romance isn't that bad indeed, can be a bit of dark to me at all...:)
Thanks for your nice wishes, well, summer's quite far away here, i'm waiting for some snow...**
    Enjoy your summer and Christmas.

    M.... H....

Wonderful conversation. A rarity here on YouTube

    M.... H....

Don't get me wrong stray cat you romantic spirit you,  I love sting and there is nothing dark about it apart from the dog star and the southern constellation eg the southern cross. Let's get it straight about the rigging shall we? Anyways just think about the seagulls because they can be quite relevant although that may surprise some folk, they do call out a warning for a drop in barometric pressure.  Watch for that. Hearts spades and diamonds abc

    M.... H....

    @Marlis Holmes Lol, don't worry :)
I'm really not THAT romantical spirit, btw, i just love such lovely harmonical songs.
Ok, i will have a eye upon the seagulls, though i like their 'warnings', such a great seaside mood!
Happy belated Valentine's Day, hope, it's been nice...;)

    M.... H....

Interpretation  as if I were the  songwriter, it  sounds to  me that this  song  was  written  for the  x  lover  and  it  was a plea  to rekindle what they once  had  ... growing  trust  for [him] ....given time, things  would  end up  back the  way it needs  to  be !   I love this  song   excellent  arrangement!   #myowninterpretation

  67. s.... ....

This is but very beautiful :)

  68. M.... M....

Reminds me of Beauty and The Beast

  69. D.... C....

C'est d'une telle beauté belle vidéo

  70. T.... v....

This morning my pilates teacher opened class and started the song after the first excercise. I was truly moved from the opening notes and could only lie still and listen. What a beauty of a song in all aspects. Thank you Sting

  71. T.... ....

    Восхитительная музыка, прекрасные слова)

  72. L.... ....

    Masterpiece

  73. W.... B....

Another winner from Sting except, this is so soulful and so REAL and meaningful.....love it!

  74. S.... G....

As we all get older, I am only 56, but the lyrics to this song really hits home. Thanks to you, Sting, for making my not only my day, but the years since my divorce. I have been oh so depressed. I only hope there is someone else out there that feels the same way.

  75. c.... ....

Gosh, Sting's songs are always so moving. This is heartwrenchingly beautiful!

  76. S.... ....

If you find Sting lyrics for Police" fantastic","provoking" and "vapid" I give up.If it is working for you that is fine with me and Sting probably as well.He is great musician but unfortunately graphomaniac. There is not many musicians that can combine writing lyrics and music .Sting is not one of them.Maybe if you could try listen to David Sylvian than maybe you would know what I mean.Respect

  77. C.... ....

The wonderings....the honesty...the reassurances with remaining questions...the depth of the offering...absolutely moving.

  78. K.... L....

Wow, incredible. No other voice could make these beautiful lyrics so powerful. Perfection. Gives me chills.

  79. B.... C....

    so beautiful!!!

  80. G.... G....

I find him to be a wonderful songwriter. The songs he wrote for The Police are lyrically fantastic. He's had numerous hits in his solo career where his lyrics have been excellent. They are often thought provoking and they stir the emotions. At least they do for me. His songs are not simple and vapid like most of what we hear today. Is this one a masterpiece? No. But saying that he "shouldn't touch a pen" is harsh. And I'd think it would also be a disservice, as he still has plenty to offer.

  81. P.... ....

Thumbs up if my personal ad brought you here.....

  82. I.... S....

Beautiful song. So much like The Pirate's Bride...

  83. h.... ....

Why this sounds like the sequel of his old song When We Dance? :P

  84. S.... ....

    fuck can be sad?

  85. S.... ....

OMG why is he still writing?great musician but do not touch a pen

  86. S.... ....

if you are in need of inteligent lyrics you should maybe listen to Smiths

  87. S.... ....

Sad as fuck ? Maybe .....but not graphomanic sad as fuck and I am loving it..

  88. u.... ....

    you are SAD as fuck

  89. S.... ....

Graphomania from Police days continous" there is is no political solution
    To our troubled evolution
    Have no faith in constitution
There is no bloody revolution" BRAVO
...Greatness?.... maybe for some I find greatness somewhere else where musicians do not put band together to make load of cash.Maybe some of you should introduce yourself to David Sylvian or after Sting "poetry" that would be one step to high.I feel so good living like that do not feel sad for me.

  90. k.... ....

I'm not even angry at that. Sure, I could spend ages explaining why you are wrong on so many levels - but in reality, I just feel sad for you. Sad that you don't understand it's greatness. What it has endured and given to lovers of art and entertainment around the world. Sorry you have to live like that.

  91. S.... ....

thank you for reading my comment and wasting your time but any Broadway production is waste of time period....unless you are old jewish/ lady or someone who likes to hum simple two notes in shower respect

  92. G.... B....

these words are so simple but so elegantly put together in a marvelous poem...

  93. .... ....

    красивая песня

  94. E.... M....

    Sencillamente impresionante

  95. k.... ....

Hmmm, I'm going to have to say that your comment is far more of a waste of time. But thanks for playing anyhow!

  96. k.... ....

Heard this song (and the album) for the first time today. What an absolute work of brilliance. Goosebumps every time I listen to this song. Once again Sting provides us hope in the musical world that their is still great music out there to be made.

  97. S.... ....

anything from broadway is waste of time
