Stewart, Al - Time Passages Lyrics
It was late in December, the sky turned to snow
All round the day was going down slow
Night like a river beginning to flow
I felt the beat of my mind go
Drifting into time passages
Time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight
Well I'm not the kind to live in the past
The years run too short and the days too fast
The things you lean on are the things that don't last
Well it's just now and then my line gets cast into these
Time passages
There's something back here that you left behind
Oh time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight
Hear the echoes and feel yourself starting to turn
Don't know why you should feel
That there's something to learn
It's just a game that you play
Well the picture is changing
Now you're part of a crowd
They're laughing at something
And the music's loud
A girl comes towards you
You once used to know
You reach out your hand
But you're all alone, in those
Time passages
I know you're in there, you're just out of sight
Time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight

Una obra de arte, no me cansaré nunca de escucharla ayer, 2020 y en el futuro.
I'm in my 60's and this takes me back to when my kids were young
James Blunt needs to remake this song. Loved it back then. Love it still.

4326 shakira fans dislike this beauty.
This song for me is one of the loneliest songs there is, that line "a girl comes towards you, you once used to know you reach out your hand and you're all alone" , ooh just breaks my heart, always reminds me of my first true love. Always wondered what ever happened to her
I remember having a transistor radio hearing this as a child on A.M. radio late 70's
hello all its 2020 wow
Oh so poignant . . . nostalgic . . . evocative. Memories are pouring down my cheeks right now.
Never gets old
OVER 50 % OF MY "CHANCES TAKEN" FELL THRU, NEVER MATERIALIZED. "HOWEVER". THE LESS THEN 50% THAT CAME ABOUT WERE WELL WORTH THE FAILED ATTEMPTS; AT THIS ADVANCING AGE, THEY STILL RING TRUE TODAY. LOVES LOST & NOT FOUND, SONGS & STORIES NEVER ACHIEVING # 1 SUCCESS, REACHING FOR THE STARS, YET FALLING LIKE "ICARUS", NEVER SAILING/DIVING W/ THE LEGENDARY " CAPTAIN JACQUES COUSTEAU", PAYING ALONG SIDE " JOHN MAYALL " & "JOHN ALMOND", & "THE ALLMAN BROS. BAND"(THE ORIGINAL), & " SADE". SAVING THOSE MOST PRECIOUS DOGS, CATS, SQUIRREL & BIRDS: PER " DORIS DAY": " QUE SERA, SERA"("WHAT WILL BE WILL BE, THE FUTURE'S NOT OURS TO SEE").
para mi una de las mejores baladas de todos los tiempos, tiene música, voz, acoplamiento ,todo es una bellisima canción a lo largo y ancho en la historia del rock
Al Stewart and Musician along with Gerry Rafferty and Musicians R still 2 this day my fav. LP of all time

Qué música tan preciosa , relajante y eterea. Gracias por subirla.
Beautiful from start to finish. Memories flood through my mind , with tears in my eyes
May you continue to make beautiful memories!! Joining you in solidarity of appreciation for this amazing song and the emotions that it evokes.
I know what he is talking about when he says take the last train home tonight!!! I took the last train out of massive Paddington station in London, England to Bath England. Yes !!!
Help! Im lost in the time passages.
I was a kid when this came out and I miss the '70's. I took my kids through my old neighborhood not too long ago and how people have changed. There were no kids playing outside or running the streets, they were most likely inside on a computer or video game. Now, I'm pushing 50 and wondering how we got to now.
Such a soothing song.
I LOVE. YOU for your beautiful songs Al Stewart
Love how he sings “Night like a river...”
like how he’s savoring the line and each syllable
What better song to have as your alarm to wake up to in the morning. I lay their sometimes and go back to the time when I first heard all those years ago. Yep. Buy me a Ticket on the last train home tonight.
I miss my 70s and 80s. Kids these days will never understand great music. A prime example of the Grammy’s last night, what an embarrassment.
The 1970s could not be beat. If you wanted to go light, you had the best music ever. If you wanted to go hard, you had the best music ever. If you wanted to dance or get funky. you had the best music ever. Even country was awesome. Ten years of brilliant music.
Class never ages and this is pure class. Big mention for Phil Kenzie on Sax. ...👍 🎷
I was living in Hawaii, I was sitting outside, when this song came on the radio. Anytime I hear this song now it takes me back to that peaceful moment. Guess there is something back there, that I left behind.
The Actor Edward sanchez loves the song
Gives you that paradise feeling you know
Love this
Who is listening to this Jan 2020. Beautiful memories.
This album taught me lots about music!
Fall of '78. You'd think that a freshman in High School would be too much into his rock and the new fad of Punk Rock that was just rearing it's head. Oh, I loved that genre of music but when this hit the airwaves, it struck me as an odd albiet different tune. I mean it was out of my genre. Listening to it now transports me to that wonderful time and absolutely love this tune. Son of a gun; 42 years ago...I can still smell the that year as odd as it sounds. The fireplaces burning. The trees. The wind. The pink clouds getting ready to spill their magical white stuff called snow. THIS song...THIS SONG...just wow...
Now all I need is some Quaaludes and a yacht.
Fucking Great Music ..........................
Wow.. This truly does take you back!
I am in Rincon....lol
This is the closest thing we have for a time machine!
Pure poetry from the nostalgic '70s. I am 67 and still mesmerized!!!!!!!
Viva Zapata!
I love the lyrics. Love the musical arrangement. A perfect track as far as I am concerned.
It's 2020 feels like 1978 little grey a little Hitch in the walk but the spirit of life is there think I'll pull the old dirt bike out.
Nice to see all you great people listening to this song...I was 16 and I'm sitting in the same living room where I listened way back then. We are time travelers thanks to music.
"The years run too short and the days too fast. The things you lean on are the things that don't last." Man, it sucks getting old.
Its lonely getting old
its what you put in those years
@cynthia chartier It really is...
nope , getting old beats the hell out of the alternative ! live it !!
Getting old is not so bad, when you consider the alternative.

I am a white man,, & i love this tune",, stupid,, i actually think of all the young women i met over the years, got close to them and never married any one of them the year song was released. A white guy chasing white women

@Big B you are a lot younger than me by 12 years. Who are you?
@Laura Cline listener of oldies. Today's music is just sheer trash

What a beautiful song...perfect for the last day of 19' & then end of a decade! These 10 years have passed so fast...💜💜✌
I love this song so much. I get a little melancholy when I hear it. I am 66 years old now and I still LOVE this song!

@Victor Lutes My friend, in your world what I believe, means less than zero. It is what you believe in spite of all reason, determines your reality. Today is 1 January, 2020, its a new day, in a new chapter, and you control your narrative.
“I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge.
That myth is more potent than history.
That dreams are more powerful than facts.
That hope always triumphs over experience.
That laughter is the only cure for grief.
And I believe that love is stronger than death."
Robert Fulghum
Please Be Well, and Stay Strong, Will
I listen to this every year in December. Who says you can't go home again?
Great music. 👍👍👍❤❤❤
It was late in December; the sky turned to snow...
I'd be honored if some fans of late 70s classics would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of TIME PASSAGES by Al Stewart and WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES by the Doobie Brothers on my YT channel in tribute to 2 great hits from the winter of '78-'79 that were created by true masters of melodic sound. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.
❤💋💋💋
Well give me an address!
I can lay back on my couch with my ear buds in listening to this music forever...makes me feel young again.
Hey!! In FOUR days it’s going to be 2020...DAMN!! Send me back to the 70’s...PLEASE!!
A few days until 2020 and this song still shines.
It really does. I love this song so much.
I'd be honored if some fans of late 70s classics would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of TIME PASSAGES by Al Stewart and WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES by Michael McDonald on my YT channel in tribute to 2 iconic hits from the winter of '78-'79. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and all the best in the '020s to everyone.
like it 👍🙏💖
I wish the FBI would catch on to stuff going on outside music schools. Leading them on in casual moments from rehearsal rigor.
Mr. Stewart had several hits!
This, and Year of the Cat, make me feel like I'm driving in a convertible on a Summer night in the South of France

When I was in my teens I loved the song without understanding the meaning of it but boy does it hit home now that I’m in my 50’s . What a great and wonderful time to have been growing up in . I wish we could turn back time just for one day...
The sound of the late '70s.
