Steven Curtis Chapman - When Love Takes You In Lyrics

I know you've heard the stories
But they all sound too good to be true
You've heard about a place called home
But there doesn't seem to be one for you
So one more night you cry yourself to sleep
And drift off to a distant dream

Where love takes you in and everything changes
A miracle starts with the beat of a heart
When love takes you home and says you belong here
The loneliness ends and a new life begins
When love takes you in

And somewhere while you're sleeping
Someone else is dreaming too
Counting down the days until
They hold you close and say I love you
And like the rain that falls into the sea
In a moment what has been is lost in what will be

When love takes you in everything changes
A miracle starts with the beat of a heart

And this love will never let you go
There is nothing that could ever cause this love to lose its hold

When love takes you in everything changes
A miracle starts with the beat of a heart
When love takes you home and says you belong here
The loneliness ends and a new life begins
When love takes you in it takes you in for good
When love takes you in

This is deep... I’m an adoptee from Guatemala and I am so thankful to my parents who adopted me at a young age. But I do hope that one day I will be able to visit Guatemala and maybe meet my biological mother :,)

  2. Kaelan Kramer

I remember when I was a kid I would always skip this song. I listened to it now in college and it hits so hard. The message is beautiful and I'm glad to have grown up listening to Steve's beautiful music.

  3. Ajong Lomou

Jesus thank you I'm so blessed

  4. Stan Current

This is the most powerful song for all us Dreamers. I was fortunate to hear SCC sing this at an outdoor concert when it started raining, sending folks scrambling. But SCC kept on with the few of us remaining. Then the sun shined thru the rain as he played. He was playing for his daughter. We are just passing thru until we return to God, who is our home. Thank You Steven Curtis Chapman.

  11. theR0nin

My parents were an absentee father and an abusive mother. But God has taken me in, and adopted me into his family! His love has taken me in, and that's more important than any parents you could have. His love lasts forever!

  12. ThisOurDailyLife

The purpose of life is to know WHO Love is, and then generate love and give it away, and paint the world full of beautiful things...

  13. Dragon Girl Blue

This song becomes heartbreaking knowing what happened to his poor adopted daughter.. It's beautiful, though.

  14. April Robinson

I have been adopted into the family of Jesus. My whole life turned upside down but Jesus always remained

  15. Joanna Courville

I thought about adoption, too, because Psychiatry SHUT DOWN my motherhood HARD. i feel like Hannah, with more than 1 Peninnah rival to my motherhood.
(Job 17:11 KJV)  My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.

  16. Matthew Liby

Back in 1998 when I was just six years old I was adopted by a great family. I may have done some awful things and they couldn't keep me in their home ten years later when I was sixteen years old and I'm not at home with them at age twenty six, but I know they still love and care for me and me them I know one day we will see and be with one another.

  17. Iffat Fatima

We just found our child. Had a visitation this weekend and arrives at our home next week. 15 year old in Texas.......and this song nails it!!!!! Waited so long while he was sleeping, counting the minutes until he is here, one more week. Thank you for this song. I will be sure this is dedicated to him upon his arrival. Thank you again.

  19. RAY FIKE

I met Steven almost 30 years ago when I had him in concert in New England. What was transparent about Steven was his love and commitment to glorify Christ. When love takes you is the story of Christ and what He did at Calvary for everyone. this is such a sad story, but the positive of it all is how many lives were touched through this story that will bring glory to our Savior, My wife and I will continue to pray for Steven and his family. He has a special heart. Our second daughter was dead three months in the womb and God brought her back to us. My special wife has died on three occasions and the Lord blessed me beyond favor by bringing her back to life. This song is inspired by God himself, because when love takes you in and says you belong here, that is a blessing beyond compare. May you continue to ride the morning winds for His glory as you allow our Father to use you and your journey to help change the world. Ray & Sandi Fike

  20. Dennis Siefker - DOC

I was put into a foster at the age of 9 by the court system and never returned home. I have struggled with acceptance of the love that this song discusses. I know cognitively that my Heavenly Father loves me but I have a hard time with experiencing the love. I sometimes feels I will never feel ever accepted anywhere. However, I know through my understanding of scripture that God will always love me and never leave me.

    Mecheline Kelly

Dennis Siefker - DOC you are sooo loved... He is here.

  21. Tammy Kahel

This song is hitting me really hard right now, my father abandoned my mother, sister, and I when I was 6 weeks old, now my mom is having a lot of medical problems and (5 strokes this year among many other issues that have almost claimed her). at this time she is recovering in the hospital tonight

  22. Enoch Jared

God promised to each one of us that was adopted:
"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up." (KJV)
"Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me." (NIV)Psalm Chapter 27 Verse 10 --Jesus Christ too was forsaken on the cross to give us the right to eternal life to live forever with our true Father:
From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land.
About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"). (NIV)
Matthew Chapter 27 Verses 45 and 46--What should we do?
Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them." (NIV)
    John Chapter 14 Verse 21

  23. Walkin Bonita

When it's real Love, two souls are joined through their hearts and spirits, they invite and ask God to enter that Love and make it stronger, then Love takes you in. We all long for agape Love, and can find so much less in love these days. Be gentle with your loved ones, especially your children. What we learn from young love and our parents takes agape Love to help us love with our whole hearts. I have learned it is very hard to find others willing to go all the way and let Love in. With God's help, we can find that courage to Love as He loves us. Love S.C.Chapman's soul in ALL his Love songs. What a good good man of God.

  25. Jessie rae

    Dear mr chapman
I don't know if you read these, but I hope you read mine.

I was placed in foster care in 1997. I was never fully adopted. I was placed in gaurdenship when I was 12 because both of my bio parents decided they didn't want me.

I have struggled with depression and ptsd along with other mental health issues since I was12/13 years old.

I never have felt like I belong to an family.

My foster mom died last year and it hasn't been easy. Her biological children have kept me and my sister out of everything to do with her death including her obituary.

    I miss her every day.

Now I feel like I have no one not even my sister anymore. She is getting married next month plus she has 2 small children to take care of.

Life is really lonely for me.

I used to have a few friends but they have gotten married and such.

Life is really lonely. I will be 28 thin year. 😞

    Christopher Dietz

Justice4 You Prayers for you today 😔

    Lora Rooks

You're not alone in your loneliness. I am so sorry for what happened to you. Jesus is with you. He won't leave. Ever. He is the only pure, everlasting relationship. He sees as feels all you have dealt with. He and I mourn with you. Let Him rebuild.

    Mecheline Kelly

Finding out Who I am Hi, please heed Lara's message. Even if you are alone you don't have to be lonely. God lives and you are not alone. The Holy Spirt that dwells within is there. And he is your very best hope and friend. We are the manifest world and he is the unmanifest.. But that only means that he is Spirit. All things come from Spirt and will return there. Therefore, be hopeful in the Lord. If you want to be around other people you can find them in schools. Do you attend a church, that might be a good place to start. And in school and in church if you are interested you can also join clubs/ ministries. That's how all this social networking begins...You are only alone if you choose . All my love to you.

i am adopted from Thailand. this song is amazing. no one will ever know how we truly feel deep inside.

    I'm also adopted

    Joe Dobrozsi

Only Jesus and The Father knows ExecutionBeatsTV and if you ever meet a human being who you find does it's because God's spirit is manifesting the Father's love or himself to you :).

    Eric Kramer

Jason Dullack my brother and sister are both adopted, and they are two examples of why I strongly support aDOPtion over aBORtion!

Adoption says “I love you and I want you to be a member of my family”, while abortion says “I don’t care about God’s plan, and I don’t value your life!!! I care about MY plans!!!”

I don’t know you at all, but I’m glad you were adopted, as opposed to aborted, and I am in no way trying to stand in judgment over your biological parents; but as I said, my brother and sister are both adopted.

Do we argue about stuff? Very few, if any siblings don’t have arguments; but I think there are a lot of siblings who, though they may have fights with their siblings, are glad to HAVE them in their life, and I also think that many of them would give their lives for their siblings; which in a way, they do give up their lives as they know them; but oftentimes, I believe the rewards outweigh the consequences!

    God bless you!!!

  38. Kenyy Allford

I'm glad people make me feel welcome. And I'm glad there are songs for adopted kids. I'm adopted and its hard sometimes. But God is in my life so I can give my fears and my worries.

    Fred Flintstone

+Kenyy Allford How about relying on yourself, and giving yourself credit where it's due, rather than an imaginary friend?

    Jeff DePrey

That is exactly what satan whispered in the garden. Don't listen to him. Jesus knows everything about you & loves you fiercely! His voice is the one to listen to. Good luck!

    Fred Flintstone

It's one thing to have an imaginary friend when you're a child; hopefully you grow out of it. But when you have one as an adult, there's a problem. What's worse is when you have an imaginary enemy, i.e. this 'satan' character. How sad.

    Fred Flintstone

Simply believing something, anything, is harmless, so long as you keep it to yourself. You can believe in vampires, werewolves, leprechauns, bridge trolls or horned toads with rainbow wings.
The problems emerge when believers in any of those decide that others should believe as well, and if they don't, there should be consequences, whether real or imaginary. The imaginary consequences we can laugh off.
"I believe with all my heart there is a magic bridge troll who created the entire universe, and human beings, and I think MY beliefs should take precedence over everyone else's beliefs, and I think MY beliefs should be taught in public schools, and I think MY beliefs should be used as a basis for creating laws in this country. There is a symbol for my belief in bridge trolls, and I think that symbol should be on public buildings that are supported by taxpayers. I think the buildings that are erected in honor of bridge trolls, and everything associated with them should be tax exempt, including every penny I make extolling the virtues of said bridge trolls.
I also feel that people's healthcare should be ruled by what the master bridge troll thinks is right and proper. So here is a list of things the master bridge troll thinks are bad, and you can't do those things. And it doesn't matter if you believe in the master bridge troll or not, because I believe in him/her/it, and therefore, YOU have to follow those rues too.
If you don't believe in, fully accept and worship the master bridge troll, there is a special place for people like you, and it's awful, and you've "chosen" to go there. the master bridge troll would never send anyone there, because the master bridge troll is all loving; unconditionally of course.
Feel free to try to explain how irrational and illogical you think it is to believe in the master bridge troll. You're just a bridge troll hater, and by telling me I'm irrational and illogical, and you don't think my beliefs in the master bridge troll should rule the planet, well, you're just persecuting me.
THAT is why we can't just 'let it be'.

    Fred Flintstone

If you're referring to me, I'm not imposing anything on anyon. My original comment was merely a suggestion to give credit where credit is due, i.e. on oneself instead of some imaginary being.

  39. Paula L

This song is very appropriate also for a wedding. Most of the family at my wedding do not listen to Christian music and had no idea this song was about adoption.  It worked very well.  I used many of the songs from All About Love for my wedding soundtrack!  I actually had We Will Dance in my wedding for us before we kissed!

How true when your in Love with Your Jesus.

    +Michael Vinson i love u

    Fred Flintstone

The entire jesus story can be traced back to over 1,000 years before the old testament. It's simply been rehashed and revised to fit a particular need. There's far more legitimate evidence of mohammed's exploits than those of jesus.
Personally, I see no point in ANY religion; they serve no valid purpose. They separate rather than unite. They make promises they can't possibly keep, and expect one to accept their tenets based on nothing but pure faith. With any of them there is a mandate that non-believers and doubters are killed, in a rather horrible fashion. Followers do so out of fear, not genuine dedication. I'll pass.

You're terribly misinformed. There's not shred of CREDIBLE evidence of a "Jesus story" before the life of Christ. It's all extremely strained conjecture and speculation on the part of people intent on discrediting Christianity (and they've failed miserably). Muhammad claimed the Scriptures had been corrupted, so he wrote his own corrupt version. But the Dead Sea Scrolls (written 700 years before Muhammad and discovered in 1948) prove that not one single word of the Scriptures have changed in over 1,100 years.

    Rick Deprey

    Well said and absolutely accurate!

Fred Flintstone prove George Washington existed. Prove that Gingiss Kahn existed. Prove Napoleon, Czar Nicholas, or any other historical man. You can’t unless you reference a history book. It’s foolish to shake a tiny fist at the sky and proclaim superior knowledge. You don’t know. Simple as that. By stating all that you said, you lost your audience. Christ never ordered killing or harmed anyone. You are mistaken. And before you babble on about the Crusades, after literally hundreds of years of Muslim expansion, the Catholic Church finally began them. It was only after centuries of killing of Christians did they go on the counter attack. History is repeating even as we debate the existence of Christ. You want to know how and why I believe, it’s because I live a changed life. That’s proof enough for me.

On June 15, 1990, my adoption was finalized. I was just shy of five years old, but love took me in on November 5, 1985 when my adoptive parents received custody of me. I was 40 days old, sick, weak, and had received inadequate care from a woman who despite the fact that I was her fourth baby, had very poor parenting skills. Everything changed for me. The Lord knew that these people He had placed me with would love me and protect me the way she could not. My tears for my parents are joyful now.

I am an adopted child. I am so glad my mother chose life.

This song makes me think of everyone on Earth before they find the Lord. Everyone is lonely and longing for Him weather they realize it or not and when they finally find Him, they go home to thier Father and everything is as it should be.

Of course I also think of the countless people searching for thier earthly families. It breaks my heart to think that so many children go to bed each night without parents or often without any one who loves them at all. May God bless everyone one of them.

I am reading Mary Beth Chapmans book "Choosing to See" and it is so powerful!

My husband and I are still on our journey to find our child through adoption. International or domestic, adoption is such a beautiful and amazing thing. This song fits so perfectly.

libravenus85 My husband and I are on the same journey. We have our hearts set on a little girl from China named Mya, but it’ll be another 2-3 years before we could start the process of adopting her (if she’s even meant to be ours. I personally believe she is. She randomly showed up in my Facebook timeline one day after we talked about adopting on the page of an organization called Love Without Boundaries Foundation. She’s also the first international child that my husband saw the picture of and told me to contact an agency. Every international child up until her he said no to and brought up the kids here in the states that also need homes). She’s currently only 3 months old, and we can’t start the process now because China has a law that says you have to be 30 and we are only 28. So please pray for her and us, and that regardless of the outcome we have peace (I’m so emotionally attached to her). I just want her to be placed in a loving home, even if it’s not with us. I’ll be praying for y’all!!

This song makes me cry every time I hear it, one day I hope to be in a stable relationship with someone who wants children and be able to afford to adopt and give one or more child/children all the love and affection they deserve, may the goddess protect all who inhabit this planet
