What an odd track, with a very odd title. Ahhhh, acid!

I've recently been posting my Top 5 Albums from each year.. from 1966 onwards and I knew 1968 would be the hardest for me to decide what to leave out? Hearing these LPs coming over from USA via Pirate Radio in the late 60s Beefheart/Zappa/Jeffeson etc. Were so impressionable on young ears.. Despite being an almost obsessive Captain Beefheart fan.. This was the first LP I wrote down and did NOT change once, whilst going thru' all the albums in my head.. I also love Steve Miller 'No 5' which I think was his other very SPECIAL album.. Yes! Listening to this LP on acid was something else.. There were lots of LPs like Spirit's "12 Dreams" / Hendrix's "Elecric Ladyland" + The Mothers "Were Only In It For The Money" which sounded amazing then and have certainly stood the test of time.. I think one of the most beautiful songs Steve Miller ever wrote was "Im Never Gonna Kill Another Man.." but you just have to listed to this LP begining to end.. Its quite Magical!

Same age +/-, same interests- it just came to us, with great joy.

I'm about a hundred pages into Glyn Johns's biography where he discusses this song in specific.

man its been years since i heard this ..steve miller was great back then before the "abracadabra "and" fly like an eagle" era

From his first till the Fifth, plus #7 = Recall the beginning. Then it slowly fades away...

Book Of Dreams is a great record, different from the early psychedelic blues style but still great! I'd say my favourite album from the earlier acid era is Brave New World, and from the later, more straightforward rock era is Book Of Dreams! Listen to songs like Sacrifice or Winter Time, they're brillant! This post-73 period is far more interesting than what catchy hits like The Joker, Jet Airliner or Abracadabra (which I like anyway) suggest, on Fly Like An Eagle and the following records they added more keyboards in the background which brought back the "dreamy" sound of the first records, but in a more modern way, this is especially well done on the pair of songs Electro Lux imbroglio-Sacrifice, which starts with a dark synth-driven instrumental and then shifts to an almost Pink Floyd-like mid-tempo space rock, with a wonderful gilmourian guitar solo! For me it's one of the best things the Steve Miller Band has ever played!

Wow, there's actually someone out there who knows how talented Steve Miller really was back in the day. When Fly Like an Eagle came out I cringed. When Abracadabra hit the radio stations I felt like puking! He's much better than that.

took some acid once and listened to this album through headphones. Life changing.

Try it on Steve Miller Number Five album.
