Steve Hackett - Entangled Lyrics

When you're asleep they may show you
Aerial views of the ground
Freudian slumber empty of sound

Over the rooftops and houses
Lost as it tries to be seen
Fields of incentive covered with green

Mesmerised children are playing
Meant to be seen but not heard
"Stop me from dreaming!"
"Don't be absurd!"

"Well if we can help you we will
You're looking tired and ill
As I count backwards
Your eyes become heavier still
Sleep, won't you allow yourself fall?
Nothing can hurt you at all
With your consent
I can experiment further still"

Madrigal music is playing
Voices can faintly be heard
"Please leave this patient undisturbed"

Sentenced to drift far away now
Nothing is quite what it seems
Sometimes entangled in your own dreams

"Well, if we can help you we will
Soon as you're tired and ill
With your consent
We can experiment further still

Well, thanks to our kindness and skill
You'll have no trouble until
You catch your breath
And the nurse will present you the bill"

Steve Hackett Entangled Comments
  1. P.... T....

Steve Hackett is one of the greatest rock guitarists ever. These concerts are better than anything Genesis had put together.

  2. E.... R....

I remember the 1st time I listened to A trick of the tail.

  3. i.... ....

this album has easily one of the greatest a-sides of all time...... I mean, I love the whole thing, but the first 4 tracks are nothing less than magic

  4. G.... T....

Beautiful piece. The best group ever up until Abacab when they went totally commercial. Pity the snowflakes these days don't understand or appreciate really good quality music. So sad.

  5. K.... T....

    The US BILL !!!

    Ty

    🥰

  6. D.... O....

    Волшебство! Месмеризм!

  7. M.... B....

l'effet du clavier à 4mn41, un son grave, saisissant, émouvant, le titre pareil à l'original. Grand

  8. J.... L....

    One word....Awesome!

  9. c.... a....

Steve is coming to Canada next month to do "Selling England By the Pound".

  10. n.... ....

I have many favourite songs by Genesis but this is one of the top songs.

  11. F.... T....

Saw genesis trick of the tail tour. Long Beach arena in maybe 77? they had a huge wall of flood lights and when that lit you could feel the heat far away. The base pedal was like an earth quack.

  12. N.... S....

avec Entangled et les parties mélodiques présentes sur ce morceau, on s'échappe volontiers dans un univers de reves et de paysages fabuleux. Quel morceau!!!! une des plus belles création de génésis reprise par Steve et son Groupe. Un pur bonheur.

  13. P.... M....

This song transfixed me in 1976 as a junior going into my senior year here in Cincinnati. I was lucky enough to drive with my buds my senior year, spring of 1977, from Cincinnati to Nashville was to see the wind and wuthering tour with Steve. For $4 by the way.

  14. J.... K....

There's a deep pathway in my brain which will always hop into Squonk the moment Entangled ends.

  15. C.... S....

I was lucky enough to see Hackett and Gabriel in the original Genesis in the early 70's. No better prog rock band incl Yes and ELP. As great as they both were after seeing Genesis about 8 times I can honestly say they were and always will be the Kings of prog rock music. 😃

  16. C.... C....

Bloody out of this world music, something that makes me want to dream and float in the universe.

  17. J.... P....

I sometimes feel very mixed about Jakko being lead singer of King Crimson, he does pull off the Greg Lake and Boz Burrell parts pretty well with his voice type but the John Wetton, Gordon Haskell and Adrian Belew era stuff is very different, and I’m a huge Belew fan personally so it was a tough change to accept, but I’ve warmed up to Jakko still because of his work with Steve. He really does have the chops to pull off the Genesis material.

  18. j.... p....

    Hackett brain my God

  19. o.... ....

You have to admit nad nails this

  20. o.... ....

    Fripp likes the vocals

  21. o.... ....

    I agree

  22. o.... ....

Myth back to life?. I lived this, no myth it really happened Genesis ripped apart the fabric of space and time. I know I was there

    o.... ....

...diving into the deepest Abyssus of human soul...I was there too

  23. S.... L....

Brilliant version of a brilliant song.

  24. R.... V....

TENHO VISTO TODOS OS VÍDEOS DE STEVE HACKETT E CADA VEZ MAIS ME IMPRESSIONA A SUA TÉCNICA. REVISITANDO O GENESIS FICA BEM CLARO TODO O TRABALHO MARAVILHOSO DESSE EXCELENTE GRUPO QUE ELE ARREBANHOU PARA ACOMPANHÁ-LO. PODER VER E REVER, CURTIR CADA DETALHE, REALMENTE ERA E É UM TRABALHO FANTÁSTICO DE EXTREMA QUALIDADE, UMA JÓIA RARA MESMO.

  25. T.... M....

the more I listen to this the more I love it!

  26. P.... 7....

I'm in prog rock Heaven right here...

  27. P.... 7....

  29. M.... P....

that music..that music .... caresses your soul !!!💙

  30. R.... M....

"When you are asleep they may show you aerial views of the ground": the stuff of the British television series "The Prisoner," poetry can mean many things.

  31. R.... G....

I must admit this is the music of Genesis and Steve does a great job he keeps some great music alive how anyone that listens to this and not like it from a musical point of view you will not hear any better I am not one to choose between old Genesis and new there is only one choice This is what made Genesis great and thank god Steve and his band do it the justice it deserves he is in class of his own

  32. j.... p....

What a performance- gives me goosebumbs. I've never tired of this Genesis masterpiece and likely never will.

  36. G.... C....

This was genuinely magic live. Saw Steve in Liverpool, few years ago. Close your eyes and it's 1976 again.

  37. j.... m....

    Wow. Proper 'Genesis'.

  38. D.... H....

    Stunning, got the goosebumps!

  39. D.... B....

I"ve heard these pieces a thousand times through the years but every time the magic kicks in still. This was a superb rendition and as someone else said, too bad the clip ends while the rest of the album continues to play inside my head ;o)

  40. s.... ....

    Guauuuuuuuu

  41. R.... ....

My 2 favorite records of all time are trick of the tail and wind&wuthering. It all started with a gift at my 15th birthday party!

  42. p.... a....

An absolutely amazing version of Entangled.

  43. M.... R....

Man we must have played „selling England“ and „trick of....“ LPs thousands of times back in the late seventies.... awesome music.

God bless Steve for keeping this music alive.

    W.... R....

yes, but: we are those to bless. Since there is no god, we're about to be entangeled.

    W.... R....

@Anke Unruh There's an angel standing in the Sun.
And he's crying in a loud voice:
    This is the Supper of
    The Mighty One.
    The Lord of Lords
The King of Kings has returned
    To lead His children home,
    To take them to
    The New Jerusalem

  57. D.... D....

This is the only time you can hear this piece with the proper levels on the bass during the final instrumental. It is really weak in the mix on the original vinyl and the CD isn't that much better. Here though it is properly mixed!

    D.... D....

    Dave Dave laughable comment

  58. b.... ....

Saw King Crimson at the Greek. Jakko fits in quite well.

    b.... ....

He’s really grown on me. Put in a phenomenal performance on Easy Money when I saw them at the Albert Hall this year. Tightest live band I’ve ever seen.

  59. .... ....

    ★★★★★

  60. M.... D....

At the end in subtitles they can not even spell right Jakko surname 🙄

  61. D.... C....

    Simply magic

  62. A.... T....

    Tears in my eyes

    A.... T....

Me too. And not ashamed of it.

  63. P.... G....

The only original Genesis member that seems to "get" what Genesis actually was

    P.... G....

Gabriel and Hackett were their heart. After they left the band capitulated into a shadow of what it was and then was forced into pop. I think their career change had less to do with greed and more a forced change from losing their most talented songwriters. Plus, Banks being a complete cunt.

    P.... G....

Agree on all points , although Banks' input should not be underestimated or undervalued but a humoulrless c**t he was nevertheless - particularly with his slagging off of his once best friend , Peter Gabriel , and for his shameless sacking of Steve Hacķett .

    P.... G....

@ThefightingCelt It's his band anyway. And once upon a time, he was also a keyboard genius who created masterpieces like this, and some of the most memorable organ solos in prog/rock history! What happened after 1978, it's still mystery to me..

    P.... G....

Steve was not an original member. Just FYI. I love the old stuff too, and Steve is an absolute favorite. But he was not an original member. You should check out Ant Phillips' stuff. :-)

    P.... G....

@lmsrox2 True. Neither was Phil. But there's not much in being an "original member" that didn't get to their best phase. Steve and Phil deserve credit for helping them to get to the next level.

I think Peter understood the value of what they had. Not Tony though.

  64. J.... R....

Hackett the former band. The frontman of Genesis creative engineering.

    J.... R....

    José Rcoha Absolute bollocks

  65. S.... ....

I am here for the music and have been a fan of genesis since 45 years but allow me to say that Amanda Lehman is super cute and sexy. Is she single ? :-) ( unlikely I know )

  66. t.... ....

    Utterly stunning

  67. M.... T....

Good to see Mark Ruffalo on singing duties.

  68. L.... L....

ok thanks for this video !!! One of my favorite Old Genesis tunes..... but I have to ask.. WHO is playing the bass pedals in this performance? I can't see anyone playing them but they are obviously there !! Help !!!

    J.... C....

    Roger King the keyboard player

    J.... C....

    Trinitarian thought so.. tks!

  94. s.... ....

Whoever edited this was apparently not a Genesis fan. The unnecessary subtitles and constant cuts ruin the experience. This isn't Van Halen.
