Steve Earle - Sin City Lyrics

This old town filled with sin it will swallow you in
If you have some money to burn
Take it home right away you got three years to pay
But Satan is waiting his turn

[Chorus:]
This old earthquake's gonna leave me in the poor house
It seems like this whole town's insane
On the thirty-first floor your gold-plated door
Won't keep out the Lord's burning rain

The scientists say it will all wash away
But we don't believe anymore
'Cause we've got our recruits and our green mohair suits
So please show our ID at the door

[Chorus]

A man came around tried to clean up this town
His ideas made some people mad
But he trusted his crowd so he spoke right out loud
And they lost the best friend they had

[Chorus]

    "Mighty Fine"♫

  2. B.... J....

Steve Earle has more soul in his vocal chords than most folks have in their whole body.

  3. h.... b....

It's like the old country singers were influenced by Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers and Johnny Cash but now the new country singers are influenced by Parsons that's so f****** cool

  4. R.... B....

    This is a horrible version.

  5. P.... D....

Steve Earle is like J.Cash and W.Nelson. He's better singing song's written for him,by him.

  6. D.... J....

First time I have seen Dave Rawlins play electric guitar, very good.

  7. C.... R....

I love all three of these wonderful artists, and this is a good rendition, but it is also a reminder of just how stupendous the original is.

  8. D.... S....

Gram Parsons was one of the best country writers of all time.

    D.... S....

Is this a Rodney Crowell song. Anyway , Steve Earl is perfect for this, ans Gillian is more perfect.

    c.... ....

Sir Rodney is great but this song is attributed to gram parsons when he was a burrito brother. Truly a really good song and group of musicians. Reply

  18. L.... D....

I saw this show, it was a tribute to Gram Parsons and I can't figure out why I can't find anywhere to buy it. There were so many good stars who did his songs.

The best version of Sin City I've heard, besides the FBB's original, is on a boot by Steve Earle called "Magnetized Motherf#ckers". Terrific.

  21. S.... T....

Next to The FBB's this is the best version of Sin City that I've heard . Love it , saved to favorites . Thanks for sharing

  22. J.... B....

Love it, Steve Earle can do no wrong

  23. J.... B....

not much of a Dave Rawlings fan, but he does have a lot of talent.

  24. J.... B....

after Steve got clean, his music was even better, I think.

  25. E.... W....

  31. B.... H....

    Real music :)

  32. J.... B....

Gram Parsons, RIP. He wasn't able to beat his demons like Steve has done.

  33. T.... ....

    MERCY!!

  34. l.... ....

Big, big Gram Parsons fan. Steve can sit on the bench. Oh, wait. Gram is dead. OK Steve, step up.

  35. J.... B....

you are probably right, my friend, but it would stop me!! still, it's a wonderful video.

  36. J.... B....

hey Dude, glad to hear from you!!! yes, i love this video and think Steve was a real bunny when he was this age, if you will forgive me for being a sexist, ha! i love him!

  37. G.... ....

I've watched it four times just today. I recognize your name from the SE Yahoo group, Joanna. Steve is my all time fave artist.

  38. C.... C....

    Very very good cover!!!

  39. M.... S....

    super!!

  40. n.... ....

Hillman was there that night. It is a 1999 tribute to Parsons based on the Return of the Grievous Angel CD, hosted by Emmylou (who is at least as important as Chris.) Hillman and Steve do High Fashion Queen and he does Wheels with Jim Lauderdale. I have a bootleg, and Leadon is listed as part of the band, along with Greg Leisz, Paul Wix, Ethan Johns and, of course, Buddy Miller.

  41. J.... E....

Is that Bernie Leaden on mandolin? Only one missing is Chris Hillman.

  42. n.... ....

I don't think not being single ever stopped Steve from running off, at least before he got sober.

  43. J.... B....

If he, and I, had been single, and if he had asked, I would have packed a bag and run off with Steve Earle then. Still, he's my great hero.

  44. t.... ....

    This was a real treasure!

  45. J.... B....

nope, saw Gram in Texas in the 70s, nothing like Gillian.

  46. J.... B....

been a fan of Steve for years and years....no matter the size!! i think he has a teddy bear quality here, but yeah, he's 57 now, thinner, but still going a mile a minute!!

  47. l.... ....

I've never seen David play an electric guitar until now.

  48. c.... ....

    Powerful. Beautiful.
    Sparkhill Des.

  49. d.... ....

    @Markndannsue
This was 1999, a tribute for Parsons promoting the Return of the Grievous Angel CD that Emmylou put together. I have seen this around on torrent sites, and am pretty sure it was never released. Steve also did a session earlier that year with Del McCoury promoting their CD.

    d.... ....

darlincommitme It was released I have a copy. Gillian Welch does an incredible version of Hickory Wind . Wilco does 100 years from this time. Great collection

  50. J.... w....

@eridgley its not a tele isnt that an esquire it only has the bridge pickup instead of two!!!

  51. M.... ....

Wow! Look at Steve. How old is this?? I'd kill to get a good copy of this session.

  52. J.... B....

this video has 12,869 views, i think half of those are mine, one of my favorites, big, big Steve Earle fan.

  53. c.... ....

Steve Earl's beard is ALOT longer now.....

  54. S.... ....

Gillian is the new Emmylou :) Let's just hope she'll never be as successful as Emmy because success always corrupts artistic integrity.

  55. J.... B....

@samdogdamndog2 don't do what Gram did in Joshua Tree, my friend.

  56. J.... B....

    Love Steve Earle. Love him.

  57. J.... B....

oh, yeah, this is incredible.....Steve Earle, the best of the best.

  58. e.... ....

David Rawlings playing a Telecaster? Have you ever seen the like?

  59. l.... ....
