Starr, Ringo - I'm The Greatest Lyrics

When i was a little boy,
Way back home in liverpool,
My mama told me, i was great.

Then when i was a teenager,
I knew that i had got something going,
All my friends told me i was great.

And now i'm a man,
A woman took me by the hand,
And you know what she told me...i was great.

I was in the greatest show on earth,
For what it was worth.
Now i'm only thirty-two;
And all i wanna do, is boogaloo!

Hey!

I looked in the mirror,
I saw my wife and kids,
And you know what they told me...i was great.

Yes, my name is billy shears,
You know it has been for so many years.
Now i'm only thirty-two;
And all i wanna do, is boogaloo!

Hey, hey, hey, (hey, hey, hey) yeah!

(hey, hey, hey)

I'm the greatest and you better believe it, baby!

Ho! Ho! Ho!

I'm gonna be the greatest in this world, (ho!)
In the next world and in any world! (hey!)

Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright,
Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right!

You are the damn greatest , You are Damn It! The Beatles were great together and they were great when they went solo!

  26. K.... ....

This is essentially a beatles song. 3/4 beatles song. Paul only one missing.

    K.... ....

Here Comes the Sun is the most popular Beatles song on Spotify, and only 3 Beatles were on that track

  27. D.... B....

Dang if only Paul was on this it would have been a full Beatles reunion

    D.... B....

Yeah, he played on other tracks on the album but not this one.

    D.... B....

    Dude, They were ragging on
Paul I mean Faul on this song ,he couldn't be on it too lol....

  28. C.... E....

WELL THAT ANSWERS THAT. JOHN THE GREATEST WAS BILLY SHEARS & NOT PAUL AFTER ALL HE WAS THE WALRUS

  29. D.... O....

"I'm only 32 and all I wanna do is boogaloo, hey!" John wrote it, ......but only Ringo could pull it off!

  30. T.... B....

Paul and Linda were on this album. Your 16

  31. J.... M....

Me gusta mas la canción que Paul le dio a Ringo que la que le dio Jhon

  32. B.... ....

Paul is not on this track because he's an unlikeable prick and the other Beatles were tired of his shit.

  33. a.... c....

    LOVELY SONG

My name is Billy Shears...it has been for so many years

  43. l.... h....

The one and only Billy Shears.. Thats what this song is about .. The imposter William Shepherd thinks hes the greatest in this world the next world any world...Just like John Lennon said How do you sleep? When for over 50 years pretending to be someone your not. The nerve of hobbing around as Paul McCartney when The Real Paul is Dead.. How Sad.. We all know wheres hes not going in the end.. R.i.P. Paul

    l.... h....

Thank you! Bill would be a Charlie Nobody if he hadn't taken on the Paul McCartney role in 1966. A Lifetime Actor, that's what he is.

  44. G.... G....

    underrated

  45. D.... L....

The "ringo" album has always been a favorite of mine
It is commercial and "bubblegum", but the music and sound qualities are excellent. Over 40 years later i still get the longing to hear it. Oh my my and devil women and photogragh, these songs call me back while they are complimented by the rest of the selections. It also has the little help of his friends john, paul, george. I was compelled to give a comment. "Ringo" is truely one of my favoite albums and that being said twice gives it away.

  46. d.... ....

I absolutely love this song !!! All of the Beatles were so talented in their own way...

  47. R.... M....

Ringo screaming “all right” at the end is a reference to John’s screaming of “all right” at the end of “Revolution #1”.

  48. d.... s....

    2:10 - 2:20
    Paul?

    d.... s....

    It's more like John's scream

    d.... s....

Paul ? Impossible. He died late 1966 and the song is about the man on your profile picture: William.

    I'M THE GREATEST

  81. E.... M....

You know it has been for so many years.

  82. E.... M....

What a fun, memorable start to a great album. John's got the best wit of the Beatles I think.

Skip the Hillary Gerrard video and listen to this hi-fi version, eh gang?

  83. B.... L....

Dedicated to the Great Muhammad Ali !

  84. E.... A....

Remember when this album came out and the world was shocked at how good it was. Great album.

    E.... A....

Didn't shock me a bit. Loved it from day one!

    E.... A....

Eva Antal why were people shocked? John and George wrote songs for this LP

  95. S.... ....

Damon: "We've heard a John-Ringo duet (I'm the Greatest), a Paul-Ringo duet (Walk With You) is there a George-Ringo duet?"

The hit single 'It Don't Come Easy' fits the bill perfectly. Ringo sings lead, George backing vocals.
Although Starr is credited as the song's writer, he has since stated that it was co-written with Harrison.
It's also absolutely fantastic. My favourite Ringo song by a country mile, including Beatles' tracks.

    S.... ....

@MarquisSmith Photograph is another Ringo - George duet.

    S.... ....

+Salfordio Is there a Ringo -Pete Beat duet is what I'd like to know?

    S.... ....

+Salfordio George doesn't sing on "It Don't Come Easy". Backing vocals are by Tommy Evans and Pete Ham from Badfinger. George harmonizes with Ringo on "Photograph".

    S.... ....

Me too! Really does sound like a Beatle song!

    S.... ....

SalfordianBlue George and Ringo did duet vocals on “Photograph” and wrote it together. It ended up being a major hit for them.

  96. a.... c....

"I'm The Greatest" John wrote and played on "Ringo" album, 1973.( "I was in the greatest show on earth, for what it's worth."  www.beatlely.wordpress.com

  97. D.... B....

    We've heard a John-Ringo duet (I'm the Greatest), a Paul-Ringo duet (Walk With You) is there a George-Ringo duet? (Or a Pete-Ringo duet😆 of fighting and arguing. I'm assuming there's no Stuart-Ringo duet😆)

    D.... B....

Ringo Starr – lead vocal, drums; John Lennon – piano, harmony vocal; Billy Preston – organ; George Harrison – electric guitars; Klaus Voormann – bass....Dream Team

    J.... N....

@master oh dear! Look at the credits on said song! What you are hearing at the 1.09 and 2.08 minute marks is Paul imitating a Kazoo (some have said a saxophone). It is so loose to call it singing! The backing singer is Harry Nilsson - why you think it is Paul McCartney beats me.

    J.... N....

@master Sadly you seem to think that you are right and everyone is wrong, which includes Richard Perry the producer of 'Ringo', who stated that Paul McCartney only did what I have said. People here have tried to educate you but you seem unable to listen or even research it. Subject closed.

    J.... N....

@Jose Sanchez all four Beatles are this lp separate or together just like the White Album....Paul wrote Six Oclock and sings on it. Also plays kazoo on Youre 16..so to me its a Beatle lp just featuring Ringo!

    J.... N....

    @Jose Sanchez YOU'RE A IDIOT !!!!

    J.... N....

    The Ladders!
