SR-71 - 1985 Lyrics

Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One prozac a day
Husband's a C.P.A.
Here dreams went out the door
Once she turned 24
Only been with one man
What happened to her plans
She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake that ass
On the hood of Whitesnake's car
Now her SUV has become the enemy
Looks at her average life
Nothing has been alright... since

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana there was U2
And Blondie and music still on MTV
Her 2 kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 1985

She's seen all the classics
at least a hundred times
Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink,
Fast Times At Ridgemont
She rocks out to Wham!
Not a big Limp Bizkit fan
Never knew George was gay
Hoped they'd hook up one day
Where's her fairy tale, where's her dream?
Where's the quarterback
From her high school football team?
Where's her fairy tale, where's her dream?
How many times will she ask herself
What happened to me?
(the rubber broke) ... When

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana there was U2
And Blondie and music still on MTV
Her 2 kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 1985

She hates time / make it stop
When did Motley Crue become classic rock
She hates time / make it stop

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana there was U2
And Blondie and music still on MTV
Her 2 kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 1985

  4. C.... M....

turns out she did get to twerk on whitesankes car

  5. d.... ....

So I just came here after Spotify randomly played this in my google mini. I asked google what's the song coz it sounded different than what I know. Was really surprised that this is the OG 1985 lol

  6. J.... ....

I've been a fan of SR-71 since atleast Tomorrow was on Smallville and while I knew the main guy was in the video from BFS I didn't know they had their own version. Like both, not sure which I like more.

  7. k.... s....

    What... The original ??

  8. G.... V....

I’m the only one one who who knew this this version first lol

  9. E.... T....

I love the different lyrics and I like this as much as the BFS version.

  10. k.... h....

    これが原曲か〜

  11. .... ....

"1985" is a 2004 song originally written and recorded by SR-71.

  12. K.... R....

    It's the same guy....

  13. R.... V....

Yakko Warner sings 1985, lyrics on screen.

  14. W.... S....

Holy shit..these guys sang "Right now" too! I loved that song back in the day

  15. A.... F....

The first song I heard from this band was "Mosquito" a year ago.
I was thinking that this sounded like Bowling for soup. So I did a little research of the band, listen to their albums and to my surprise I found this. 😂

  16. A.... S....

    Bowling for soupis coveri jobia

  17. S.... ....

It’s really gotta suck when your most popular song is a cover

    S.... ....

You talking Bowling For Soup, or SR-71? Because this is the original version, dude. They offered it to Bowling For Soup, since they're their friends & they knew their version wouldn't track.

  18. D.... ....

    1:19 *"THE RUBBER BROKE!!!"*

  19. M.... P....

Why wasn't this one a hit? Bowling for soup's version is practically the same exact sound XD

  20. P.... M....

I was today years old when I found out this is the original version

  21. M.... N....

Guys the Bowling For Soup Verizon came out first, but this band wrote the song, and then covered the BFS version. It’s confusing but the Bowling For Soup version is technically the original

    M.... N....

    SR-71 - Release May 21, 2004 / Recorded 2003
    BFS - Release July 27, 2004 / Recorded 2004

  22. B.... L....

The lyrics are deeper here; it is obviously about a woman who wishes it was still 1985 because it was before she had kids and she wishes she could have it all back, but she can't.
BFS made it more about being nostalgic for the older times.

Lyrics - I like this better.
Melody wise - BFS did it better.

    B.... L....

B Luz bfs isn’t a serious band..... the lyrics wouldn’t work

    B.... L....

I agree. I like this more

  23. S.... ....

In general I prefer BFS's cover to this but the lines "never knew George was gay" and "the rubber broke" were comedic gold and shouldn't have been removed

  24. W.... W....

    Mitch is the man!

  25. C.... ....

    2:57 DIO Brando: Za Warudo

  26. D.... W....

    Ok... I love this.

  27. r.... ....

I like this version better, the BFS version has lyrics that dont flow as well

  28. L.... :....

    Literally JUST found this out

  29. U.... B....

    "I pReFeR bOwliNg fOr sOuP"

  30. J.... H....

Doesn't matter who sings it nirvana was a band in 87

  31. B.... ....

    "The rubber broke"! 😂

  32. s.... d....

    WOO MARYLAND

  33. T.... B....

Pissed to find out bfs stole this from SR-71. I was listening to SR-71 in 2000 before bfs was anything.

    T.... B....

i dont think "stole" is the right word

    T.... B....

Tom Blake they wrote it together, Mitch (singer of this band) have bfs permission

  34. C.... ....

Thumbs up if ARTV brought you here.

  35. S.... ....

It helps that the lead singer for SR-71 sounds extremely similar to Bowling for Soup's lead. If I didn't already know, I could probably have been convinced that this is just an alternate take by Bowling for Soup.

  36. L.... C....

Whoa mind blown I thought this was maybe just mislabeled

  37. S.... F....

Kidz bop version is 100 times better

  38. L.... C....

So I came here from the SR71 One Hit Wonder retrospective vid by Todd In The Shadows ("Right Now" was the subject). I know now this SR71 wrote this song, and Bowling For Soup covered it; it's a song I'd heard on the radio since grade school (c. 2005).

This has been one hell of a YouTube rabbit hole, good Lord.

  39. J.... P....

    😆😀

  40. S.... o....

Both versions are nice and chill

  41. G.... G....

    THE RUBBER BROKE

  42. D.... N....

How old were all ya in 1973

  43. S.... ....

Bowling for Soup made it so much better.

  44. r.... j....

Mitch Allan and SR-71 forever. my favorite early 00's band. Mitch started another band called Satellite in the early 2010's, different sound, but amazing. look up their song "Say the words" if you're curious

  45. I.... ....

My mother went to high school with Mitch Allan, the lead singer. He was in her chem class. It's funny, if this original version was the one to get popular, I wouldn't have heard the end of it. Only found this out about a year ago.

  46. J.... Y....

1% of comments are about the song
99% of comments are about BFS / finding out that BFS covered this

  47. s.... ....

When *DID* Motley Crue become "Classic" rock...?

  48. M.... M....

well if she lived the life she wanted she would live in a seedy apartment naked with 2 or 3 men with needles all over the place. She should be grateful that her life is normal.

  49. W.... ....

I prefer the sound of the Bowling For Soup version, but I prefer the lyrics of the SR-71

  50. 1.... ....

God this is terrible compared to bfs version

  51. D.... C....

The one Bowling For Soup song my friend thought I recognized, but it was only because it was a cover of this version!

  52. K.... K....

SR-71 was a really underrated band. I love their stuff. I remember when Bowling For Soup's version came out and no one knew that SR-71 performed the song first.

  53. d.... ....

I guess the band kinda went under the radar. But with a name like SR-71, what do you expect?

  54. J.... P....

That's right, original songwriters get ignored.

  55. T.... O....

1:59 made this better than the BFS version lmfao

  56. M.... ....

I grew up with this song and I am entirely fucked up at the fact that BFS did not write it first

  57. B.... ....

    *THE RUBBER BROKE*

  58. b.... g....

This and the bfs version are two diffrent beasts the bfs sounds like a song about a fun milf but this version makes her sound a lot more like she is stuck in the past and she peaked along time ago and can't face the truth

  59. R.... ....

Not a yellow SUV just a normal SUV and the movie and talks about kinda diffrent thing i think its best than bfs its grear

  60. A.... ....

"The rubber broke" is why I'll always live this version to Bowling for Soup's

  61. K.... L....

Bfs is a remake or remix lol not a cover

  62. D.... H....

Great song! While I know the BFS version quite well, I think this one is even better!

  63. A.... F....

    My life is a lie.

  64. I.... A....

I’ve always known sr-71 made the song but what confuses me is that bfs never mentioned that it was a cover??

  65. u.... ....

The second verse of the original really gets to the meat of the song: She misses being young and irresponsible.

  66. V.... V....

    This band is so underrated

  67. H.... H....

THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL SONG? LMAO. MINDBLOWN

  68. M.... B....

i just now found out that this isn’t bowling for soups original song and my whole life is a lie and needless to say I’m in shock.

  69. M.... ....

    I didn't know Fry was in a band! :)

  70. T.... N....

This original version is much better.

  71. S.... ....

Technically, bfs didn't EXACTLY cover the song, as they slightly changed it. Totally means it's original, right? Right!?!?

  72. U.... ....

Meh, i gave it a chance. BFS version is better imo

  73. B.... ....

    Yep. Only just found out.
I always thought Jaret (BFS) and Mitch (SR-71) sounded really similar.

  74. x.... 2....

I cant believe BFS didnt create this, my life is a lie

  75. T.... R....

    The original song.

  76. L.... ....

My whole life is a lie

  77. S.... 1....

The lead singer of this band is in BFS music video for this song at 1:00

  78. s.... ....

Johnathan Young did a like a metal version of this as well (based on bfs though)... Never new I could like a song 3 different ways.

  79. A.... G....

I like both I think they sound the same just bowling for soup's was a little faster but I could listen to either

  80. D.... ....

    It's original.

  81. D.... ....

The original is great but I like the changes made by Bowling for Soup.

  82. K.... ....

Sr 71 has more punk to it! I love this version

  83. J.... K....

Like bfs sound better, like sr-71 lyrics better

  84. S.... G....

"Here dreams went out the door."

  85. A.... ....

The line.... The Rubber Broke!! Bloody classic line :)

  86. A.... C....

    FEEL OLD YET?

  87. J.... G....

So i think it'd be fucking perfect if someone put the bfs instrumental and sr71 vocals and put them together

  88. K.... C....

I respect this version but bowling for soup is still my favorite version

  89. A.... G....

Makes no difference both bands are so equals!

  90. S.... D....

Now whenever i try to sing this song i mix up all the lyrics, my brain grabs whichever parts sound best and mashes them together.

  91. E.... M....

    Who the fuck is BFS?

    E.... M....

    Enkii Muto bowling for soup

  92. D.... D....

Decent cover but the original is much more superior.

    D.... D....

Drew Doyle this is the original....

  93. k.... b....

i like bfs version better personally but this is cool too

  94. C.... J....

sr-71 the original ??or Bowling for soup??

    C.... J....

    Carl Jhon SR 71

  95. w.... ....

Todd in the Shadows anyone? I'm so glad he mentioned this. I'd never heard of SR-71 and this version is so much better

  96. t.... ....

Good ol Todd in the Shadows sending me to this and letting me know that my life is a lie and this was the original

  97. D.... B....

My mind is blown that it's a cover but...DUDE LEARN HOW TO FUCKING SPELL LIKE THAT DROVE ME NUTS 😂
