Squeeze - Christmas Day Lyrics
Mary and Joseph drove into town
Searching for a place to stay
The moon was up, and his foot was down
A miracle was on its way
Locals, but no one seemed to have any room
Better find a double room soon!
So where would Christmas be without
Mary and Joseph
Morecambe and Wise
Laurel and Hardy
Cracker surprise
Lights on the pine tree
And not forgetting Jesus, who was born on Christmas Day
They found a place with a neon light
"TV", "Pool", and "Vacancies"
The man on the desk didn't hear them right
When the two of them booked for three
They watched the TV
And deeply, she felt a punching neatly
And the heavens delivered this way
And it happened on Christmas Day
Christmas Da-ay
Christmas Da-ay
So where would Christmas be without
Mary and Joseph
Morecambe and Wise
Laurel and Hardy
Cracker surprise
Lights on the pine tree
And more aftershave
But not forgetting Jesus, who was born on Christmas Day
Mary and Joseph were so surprised
With admirers around the crib
There was something in their son's eyes
That magnetically took one in
Like a Messiah and a fire
Like the tread around a tyre
That grip all roads
To faults you made
And it happened on Christmas Day
Christmas Da-ay
Christmas Da-ay
So where would Christmas be without
Mary and Joseph
Morecambe and Wise
Laurel and Hardy
Cracker surprise
Lights on the pine tree
And more aftershave
But not forgetting Jesus, who was born on (Christmas Day)
Not forgetting Jesus, who was born on (Christmas Day)
Not forgetting Jesus, who was born on (Christmas Day)
Not forgetting Jesus, who was born on (Christmas Day)
And not forgetting Jesus, who was born on (Christmas Day)
Not forgetting Jesus, who was born on (Christmas Day)
And not forgetting Jesus, who was born on (Christmas Day)
Not forgetting Jesus, who was born on (Christmas)

corny trying to update christmas fairy tale with the usual squeeze ray davies rip off lyrics
Now this song puts me in the spirit....
always has.....always will.
Way it is.
I've learned to hate this song from working in retail at Christmas
I assumed they never made a video for the song which never made it to the TV and I know VH-1 used to play the song footprints at Xmas time. Even though that was not a Xmas single it feels more like a Xmas tune than this one thank to the promo videos in the snow.
Yes they did see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utMnoPlywJg

My favorite Christmas song. And I don't even celebrate it...I'm Jewish. What's your favorite Hanukkah song?
Adam Sandler's.

I love Squeeze. I have them on my i pod. They Rock my World. <3
Ben folds wishes he wrote this
I didn't realize this song was recorded in 1979. It sounds like it could have been recorded today.
Oh wow. Just found my new favorite Christmas song. Still prefer Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime" as my absolute fave. The synth lick does it XD.
Incredible that this song did not chart.
+matthewakian2 Hardly something people are going to sing down the boozer is it though?...
I've loved this crazy little ditty since I was a tot. This & CHRISTMAS WRAPPING by the Waitresses are quirky Xmas @ their best :-)
crap song
Yeah really informative review.
Squeeze CAN'T make a Bad song🎵. It's a Law of Physics.
I'll be shopping at Macy's this year, then.
@TheJazzSwings Yes, this song plays constantly and it drives me insane for the fact that I've HATED this song since I first heard it. What a terrible friggin song, the worst part being them trying to "squeeze" in lyrics at the end of the chorus. If I were a Berserker this would be the song that would trigger my blood rage UGH!!!! 3 more Days!!!!
@TheJazzSwings i work at macy's!!!! omg it comesonlike every 5th song!!!!!!!
@TheJazzSwings At my store too but I like this song. Better than the other muzak XMas stuff I have to listen to at my Macy's...
@TheJazzSwings OMG I work at Macy's and I had never heard it before till I started working there. Such a horrible song but so catchy!
They play this song on the muzak at Macy's and it drives me crazy! I love and hate it!
I laugh myself silly whenever I hear this song.
@79wylie Yeah, they were played on KROQ a lot, but there was so much good music to compete with back then.
This is my favourite christmas song of all time. I heard it for the first time this december since i was around 6 years old. Brought back memories from my childhood christmases :')
@moviemakersmind
dunno myself, other Christmad songs such as Slades sing about granny dancing etc so dunno why this would get banned. Perhaps the BBC felt that singing about M&W etc might be viewed by some as saying they were on a par with Jesus. Whereas they seem to be just singing about what a traditional Christmas in UK was. I remember buying this when I saw it simply because I liked Squeeze, but the song isnt great, though no worsethan someChristmas songs.
Squeeze are probably the best band ever....!
thought this was video of this song im surprised sqeezed only charted twice in the top ten in the uk i think there one off the better groups from uk then again here in states they rarly got any airplay cept for tempted which i think is there worse song
Thanks - I didn't know about the ban. I remember it being featured on "Roundtable" but they must have got cold feet afterwards.
NB. Slap and Tickle was the fourth single from the album so 24 is not that bad considering.
This is one of the strangest "flops" of all time. The band had reached no 2 twice in the preceding 12 months but this didn't make the top 75. Any one know why ?
I love Sueeze. This is rubbish.
thanks for posting
don't suppose you've got the actual video?
rare as rocking horse do do
all the best
