Springfield, Dusty - Daydreaming Lyrics
(You gotta wake up)
You don't commit to me
You won't make a start
You don't tell me no
You sit in a chair
Or you lie in bed
With a faraway stare
And a swollen head
Well, listen here my lover
I have had enough
And I can tell you brother
I could fall in love
With someone who
But gets up and does
What he's thinking of
I can't wait another day
I can give and I can take
There's a choice you have to make
So many times things pass you by
Imagination running wild
You've got to start choosing right from wrong
Instead of daydreaming all day long
I want to catch a plane
To an open space
I want to feel the sun
Shining on my face
But time is short
And waiting is long
And my patience is exhausted
I'm just not that strong
I want to see the parade
You wanna watch TV
So we don't do either
It's insanity
You say there's plenty of time
And life is good
So you never make your mind up
Well you never could
I can ask you when or why
And you'll look up to the sky
The parade is marching by
So many times things pass you by
Imagination running wild
You've got to start choosing right from wrong
Instead of daydreaming all day long
Daydreaming, oh, oh, daydreaming, daydreaming
You gotta wake up, you gotta wake up
(Leave me alone I'm only dreaming)
You gotta wake up, you gotta wake up
(Leave me alone I'm only dreaming)
You gotta wake up, you gotta wake up
(I'm only dreaming), oh, oh
I can't wait another day
I can give and I can take
There's a choice you have to make, oh, oh
So many times things pass you by
Imagination running wild
You've got to start choosing right from wrong
Instead of daydreaming all day long
So many times things pass you by
Imagination running wild
You've gotta choose right from wrong
Instead of daydreaming all night long
(Daydreaming)
So many times
(Daydreaming)
Things pass you by
(Daydreaming)
You've gotta choose right from wrong
(Daydreaming)
All day long
All day long

Springfield, Dusty Daydreaming Comments
A song that is beautiful beyond words. Always reminds me of my first true love (E)
ONE! IMMACULATE !!! composition and music by the guys of The Petshop boys and the UK soul queen Dusty. Do i wish she still was among us. Still, anno 2020 this tune is in my playlist and people, YES! young people ask who sings this song. "Reputation" 1990 released album is one of the finest albums she and her co-producers Neil Tannant, Chris Lowe, Dan hartman and others. My advise is to seek for the album "Reputation and rarities". Just released is a special remix by Costas Dardamanis Dusty Springfield - Daydreaming
"You gotta wake up"
Really love this track,a friend gave me a double cd of her greatest love songs, heard this and loved it plus plenty of other tracks.!
not her.. bad choice.. sorry.

Two lesbians...
Первые аккорды до мурашек... Класс!
Over a five decade career, it was always important to Dusty to keep up with times and not stagnate. Love all or her LP's and various vocal styles over the decades. She covered all genres beautifully (Motown, Big Band, Folk, Rock, R&B, Blues, Disco, and RAP!). Putting her unique DUSTY vocal stamp on each of them. What a legacy she left behind.
All of that, but this rap was a surprise.
This so should have been released as a single from the album
amazing song!
our dusty she sure was the best from her time, she had real soul
Didn't know Dusty rapped - wonderful voice, wonderful song, simply wonderful! And very creative. Thanks for posting.

This song should have topped the charts!
@weirdalfan1980 you are so right about "White Heat" which is one of the greatest Female Rock performances ever and "Blind Sheep" is stunning...right up there with Grace Slick's "Dreams", "White Heat" should have been a blockbuster but received no promo...us real fans didn't miss it though and Dusty once again delivered...big time!
@ffm I think the song you are after is 'time waits for no one' :) hope that helps you :).
@pecs2006 ludacris did, but before him there was some other artist who sampled the opening and did some crazy drums to it as an instrumental but I cant find it anymore.
@ffm20zaheri works ok.. check your pc ;)
Dusty's ethereal Voice-PSB's melodic music/production-Angelo Badalamenti's hypnotic arrangement- what more heavenly can someone ask for in pop music?
wonderful voice, can move me to tears. Amazing lady.
finally!!!! you cant inmagin how much i have lookt for this song, i was about 8 when i heard this and didnt know the song name or who sing ..omg i cant belive i found this!! only remember the part- u gotta wale yp, u gottawake up...LOL
Elvis Presley beautiful song
REPUTATION is awesome and a total masterpiece...incredible never released in US but a huge hit in Europe...should have been world-wide smash & deserved many Grammy Awards! Filled with great songs filled with tremendous performances and those arrangements...
The mark of talent is the ability to move the listener and this woman from the very first note could control. So much in fact that even in crowded places of conversation that voice would seek out attention. How many other singers can do that?
I love this, REPUTATION must be a great album...
No matter how many times I hear that I still smile or giggle when Dusty does her rap! It;s just to good, so brilliant! Not the best song of Dusty's but it's brilliant none the less. "And I can tell you brother" LOL! Love you Dusty!xx
Dusty really does rock-out in Blind Sheep which is one of the greatest rock vocals ever from any lady singer...White Heat is a masterpiece but really an overlooked one!!!
Daydreaming with Dusty is sublime & magical...so many times...can listen to this wondrous classic over and over! what a voice
To me Rap is crap, it's used by people who just shout because they have no singing tallent, but I could listen to this kind of rap all the time, so long as it's Dusty thats singing it that is.
Dusty you're tallents are endless.
Love and miss yer loads lass.

It's true most rap requires no real vocal talent. That's why it's talking to a beat. Originally, it was more like street poetry to a beat...some of the early rappers who developed it had quite a LOT of talent. Sadly, the vast majority that gets airplay has no political or social convictions and is just marketing and promoting violence, drugs, sexual promiscuity, etc.
But in the old days...it was different. For example, back in the 80's Eric B. and Rakim coupled a song by the Yemeni Jewish songbird (who sadly also died quite young of cancer like Dusty) Ofra Haza, a very beautiful ancient song with haunting melodies to their rap and beat. It's spectacular and was on the soundtrack of the classic 80's movie (if there is such a thing!) 'Wall Street." It's called, "Paid in Full." I'm sure if you don't remember the actual song you probably remember Ofra Haza's haunting vocals and the beat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7t8eoA_1jQ
Dusty rapping? ;) Who knew,, fabulous. Thumbs up. BTW Dusty rocks on Blind Sheep off White heat, check it out.
'Reputation and Rarities' is a masterpiece album and Petshop Boys brought out a voice that showcased her talent to hold up all female singers for comparison. I can't think of many that equal. In fact if she was still alive, I can hardly imagine what we would be listening to. Blows one's mind.
mono ta spaei! polu gamato
yeah.. just brilliant ;)
