I wonder what "slide" means in this song. I never quite understood the choice of diction, but I like how it sounds. Either way, this is such a beautiful song of desperate love.

I remember buying my first "audiophile" hifi system, and playing this album on vinyl from start to finish as a way of gauging the difference from my old system... i was with my girlfriend (who wasnt aware of Spiritualized till i played them), when the third verse started i said "wow, thats the best ive ever heard this record"...

Her reply was "its amazing, music for the soul"...

I agree, it does capture some essence of what it's like to be in love (plus it's a gorgeous song), but... I think the tone is more about desperation (and not solace). like a fear of losing someone, of losing a special connection to time. because relationships can be ephemeral.

ok.....make it 3 albums by floyd that are ok...Meddles good, Momentary lapse of reason is hardly Pink floyd (well played to the session musicians), also good to trip to. And apparently live in Pompey, one I don't own. still don't rate them. Gong kill them, Ozrics kill them, Hawkwind kill them, Spiritualised kill them., Grateful dead kill them. Truth is floyd do the same old boring colours and patterns. I will trip to live in Pompey, in fact Im on it next weekend, Floyd are still amazing song writers and have done some amazing albums, I think Dave Gilmore is the best one note guitarist in the world, you know who's playing that one tone,, when it comes to two note/ tones then thats a different matter. Still love them, but to smoke to more than trip to.

They don't kill Pink Floyd. Infact they don't even come fuckin close but you are entitled to your opinion. There is a reason Pink Floyd is considered as one of tf best progressive rock band of all time and all these other bands are Not. May be pink Floyd is not for you. Too bad!

Maybe the reason Pink Floyd is considered one of the best progressive rock band of all time and the reason for this other fact are related. (It's not about the art itself)

Pink floyd are shit to trip to...they're boring and over rated. Gong however, much better in my opinion, were underrated, Jason's music is better by a country mile. Spiritualized will go down as one of the greats by true acid heads, Pink floyd will not, but will make a lot of money from a load of fakers/ Space cadets.

How is that bad? I get a little confused/bothered when people say they can't enjoy a song because they disagree with the message of the lyrics. If you think this album is desperate, then just enjoy it while taking it as "Don't be this desperate."

Saw them live here in Detroit around 10 years ago. Didn't know what to expect. I was totally and completely blown away by the show. Full gospel choir and string section. I got goose bumps on a few songs!
