Spektor, Regina - No Surprises Lyrics

A heart that's full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won't heal
You look so tired, unhappy

Bring down the government
They don't, they don't speak for us
I'll take a quiet life
A handshake of carbon monoxide

With no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
Silence, silence

This is my final fit
My final bellyache

With no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises please

Such a pretty house
And such a pretty garden

No alarms and no surprises
(Get me outta here)
No alarms and no surprises
(Get me outta here)
No alarms and no surprises, please

Much better than the radiohead cersion. I like nearly everything radiohead put out except for this song. They should habe just given to her to rexord in the first place.

  40. V.... G....

No me gustan mucho los covers, pero hay que reconocer que este es magistral,la calidad vocal de Regina Spektor es realmente sublime,es intensa y a la vez relajante.

I LOVE this girl!!! Ever since I first heard (and bought) her 'Soviet Kitsch' CD at a show in New Haven, CT where she was opening for the Dresden Dolls in like 2003 or thereabouts.... AND SHE SIGNED IT! Beautiful voice and really nice and down to earth

    Imagine this:
    You are in a cafe
You're a writer stuck in the middle of your novel
    It plays this song
Everything comes clear in your fucking head now
You take a deep breath and let the song do the rest of your writing
Every alarm known rings inside you
    Surprise!

  57. K.... A....

Now that was just adorable... 🙂

  58. T.... D....

    This seems happy

  60. T.... M....

    really beautiful version!

  61. L.... ....

I'm always optimistic when I click on a cover... my playlists are filled with them, so I'm not hating on the attempt, but this is a miss for me...

Sounds like she's talking more than singing, but she completely loses me at around the 1:56 mark when she sings it in a higher key

  62. K.... O....

    No alarms and no surprises...silent

  63. V.... ....

I like the fact that Regina Spector likes one of my favourite bands and makes a cover of them. And as other people say in the comments, this is a longtime Radiohead fan speaking (writing) and also think she does it right.

  64. d.... c....

Desde Argentina, que voz tierna, dulce y agradable a mis oidos...

    J.... ....

@Hannah Hannah! I heard that too! But only after I had heard this version, good ear!

  85. T.... O....

Someone a looooong time ago mentioned that they picture this song being sung by a mother coming home late from work, rocking her crying baby, using this as a lullaby, promising her baby that soon life will get better and there will be no more surpises.

    T.... O....

Rach Frisella My daughter chose this to listen to every night before she goes to sleep. The other day I heard her singing “Bring down the government. They don’t, they don’t speak for us.” That’s my girl. :)

  86. a.... ....

    Amazing

  87. j.... e....

I always tried singing thom's part low, but I didn't know I could've sang it like that wth

  88. e.... ....

Quién conoció esta cover en los anuncios de Movistar tv?

  89. a.... a....

    Brutal: Thanks!!!!!

  90. .... ....

My god. This shouldn't work, but it's fantastic. For a song about killing yourself due to a lack of faith in the world, your wonderfully comforting voice and the nostalgic jazz instrumentation give off a very euphoric and pleasing sensation as opposed to the more dreary original. I can't say it's better than the original. I mean, I love Radiohead. But this is fantastic. A very unique and whimsical rendition. I absolutely love it.
