The Presence of ‘Soul’ in Human Body.
We can prove the existence of 'soul' with the help of modern cell biology. Biologists say that every second there is new production of cells in human body. The cell of an ameba is the same in size with the cells of an elephant. Ameba has only one cell, but an elephant has trillions of cells. The number of cells of male sperm is countable or limited. After it entered into the womb of a woman it multiplies very speedily. The growth rate of the number of cells in a baby is faster than that of in an old man. When a baby grows into a young man of 25, the birth rate of new cells slowly decreases. It will be slower in old man. We can’t donate blood unless there is new blood cells are generated. The growth of hair is the best example for cell creation. Every week we have to cut nails because nail cell are growing. Patients with broken bones can’t be cured unless there is the growth of bone cells. Transplantation of human organs are possible because there is growth of new cells in all organs. At the same time, there is cell death in every human beings and animals. It is called programmed cell death. The maintenance work of the body cells more speedy at night when we sleep. The average number of death of cells in a grown up man is in between 50 billions to 70 billions. i.e. in every second his cells dying and new cells are being created. Biologist say that within 3 to 12 years whole cells in human body are completely replaced by new ones. i.e., Each and every man is not the same man physically after twelve years. Human transactions are impossible in the absence of soul. Suppose, there is no presence of 'soul' in human body, how can a criminal be punished after twelve years because his advocate can argue in the court that my man is not same man physically. All of his biological cells had been replaced completely. In the view of science he is not same man physically. How can a bank give long-term loan to customers because they are new men physically after years. But a Muslim can face this question easily. Even though the body of man is changed physically many times he has the same soul which is given at beginning of 4th month from his mother’s womb. In fact, the punishments, rewards, enjoyment, sorrows and other emotions, are possible in the presence of soul, not apparent body. If the human ‘soul’ is the sword, the physical body is only the outer cover of sword. Sword is powerful, but the cover is not powerful. Sword is the same even though the outer cover is replaced many times. A table fan is can’t work without electricity. The table fan can be taken as the example for human body and electricity as soul. In the same way, a mortal body is useless in this world. That is why it is buried even though he was very beloved in the presence his soul and life. With the death of a man the immaterial soul goes out of his body. If there is no soul why science can’t return the material ‘life’ to a dead man?
Prophet Muhammad (S) taught that "life' and "soul' are two, not one. Plants have material life. They grow, take Co2 in and release oxygen out. With the help of water and other minerals they make photosynthesis and produce food. Plants have only life, no souls. Life is material and soul is immaterial. The signs of life is visible. The soul is untouchable and invisible. It is indescribable. It is from God. Ordinary people can’t think of it. It is beyond the range of microscopes, however powerful they are. But man and animals have both 'life' and 'soul'. The biologists who do not believe in 'soul' cannot answer the question of a Muslim. ‘There is difference between the life of plants, animals and men. Why this difference?’ It is sure that something is present in man and animals which the plants do not possess. It is soul. Animals have both life and soul. Animals have sense. Man have 'special sense' too. Only in the presence of life, soul and special sense man can live and have moral characters.
