Smith, Corey - Over The Line Lyrics
He said suffer children, follow me
There's a light somewhere down Galilee
I'll take you there then you're on your own
Learn all you can and run back home
He said boy you're here way before your time
Finally saw the truth and I was terrified
Left all my doubts on the other side
Now I'm broke but I got plenty
I'm busy but I got time
I'm weak but you can't tempt me
I know my limits because I crossed the line
Well life goes around like a roulette wheel
The odds are long and the stakes are high
But you won't get lucky if you never try
I placed my bets and I've lost my share
Seen a dream come true and vanish in thin air
Spent my nights on bended knees
I cried out to God and God answered me
Oh, I'm broke but I got plenty
I'm busy but I got time
I'm weak but you can't tempt me
I know my limits because I crossed the line
I'm stuck but I'm wide open
Ain't in a hurry but I'm far behind
It's hard but I'm still hoping
I know my limits because I've crossed the line
We've got hearts like wax and heads like steel
The harder we think the less we feel
The obvious ain't plain to see
Till you know that light down Galilee

Smith, Corey Over The Line Comments
Three years later- I have an idea. I didn't know this existed but I sure am glad I am slacking today and I found it. Put work, school, coaching, all of it on hold for today, because this touched my heart.
I think this is about realizing you're on the wrong path and finding God.
"Finally saw the truth and I was terrified" My mom died when I was 16. I did things that I cringe to think about (mostly drinking like a fish and blacking out nearly every time). I knew it wasn't the path I wanted to be on- but I couldn't stop. I got baptized on her birthday, and I still continued ("boy, you're here way before your time")... but I had completed the first step.
Go to college, life seems to get harder, you're different (or gay), you're scared, you're still struggling, but you know you're still not who you want to be yet.
"Life goes around like a roulette wheel, win or lose it's all a thrill." Enter finding my better half, still terrified, but getting there.
Move 7 hours from home and dad dies of a massive stroke (age 22) ("boy, you're here way before your time")...
"Spent my nights on bended knees, I cried out to God and God answered me." This time I knew what I didn't want to do with my grief. I got help. It's hard. It takes effort. People say "you choose to be happy or unhappy" and that's true. But in hard times it's a lot harder to make that choice. "It's hard but I'm still hopin, I know my limits because I've crossed the line."
It's hard and it comes and goes, but you learn to be grateful and remember that circumstances don't make your life- the decisions you make everyday do; therefore, YOU make your life. So everyday you consciously try to make the right decisions- the decision to be happy.
"I'm broke, but I've got plenty" Little money, lots of love
"I'm busy, but I've got time" Exhausted, but spend that extra hour awake to see your loved one
"I'm stuck, but I'm wide open" You feel like you're constantly stuck in the negative, but you're not, because you are trying every day and MOST of the time, you're happy
Your heart might be broken and you might think it won't ever get better "Hearts like wax and heads like steel"
Stop thinking so much and feel God's presence in your life during your lowest of lows "the harder we think the less we feel"
"the obvious ain't plain to see" That God has a plan
I bet anyone could fill in their trials and tribulations and this song can apply to them. Even you, Corey Smith :)

I loved alot of songs but if you're a believer that one explains life better than anyone I've ever heard I think because it come from a true human being not a puppet from Music Row
I'm there! I just! I would explain but its emotional to me.Most of yours songs describe me and what i'm going threw all your drinking and drug relative songs. U are one of my favorite artist and I'm only 26 .
i live Jones county Georgia
I was just talking to a friend about Saul on the road to Dem. when he was struck blind, this is amazing how God drops in these nuggets of wisdom to his children, the True Church. This story and your song relates to our own fallen lives that God restores and makes us New for His purpose. Love your music.
I know my limits cause I crossed the line..... Yes I have but I'm still here happy and waiting for tomorrow
I really like that line about being "struck to your knees...". Thats real.
I hit my bottom w abusing drugs and alcohol not long ago. And was volun-told to go to AA. This song resonates for me with what I have learned since I'm been in the program and the blessings that I have received since I've been clean. It reminds me of the places I've been and how I would still be there or worse were it not for God's grace. Mr. Smith your songs have hit me hard since my now fiance introduced me to you a year and a half ago. Keep pulling my heartstrings and my funny bone. : )
Can't wait to see u at rabbs tomorrow
Absolutely Amazing. I had a dream like this once god showed me everything that I was waiting on and that all the bad in this world was worth the wait, that everything wasn't that bad and that he would always be there for me. Even tho I leave him on the shelf and dust him off when I need him(which isn't a good thing) but like u said I'm gonna make it to heaven by the skin of my teeth! Thanks Corey for everything uve done in my life thru your music. Wish we could sit down and have a conversation.
