Why is everyone hating on this? It’s the heavier sound of slaves and they even do heavy uniquely

I just heard this on Jonny Craigs pandora and it is so damn good. He's such a talented soul. We all have our pasts and skeletons so who are we to judge!

Jonny did part one himself before Slaves. It's on his album Find What You Love and Let it Kill You. I highly recommend that album.

They're a good band but feel like they can come up with better lyrics... but other then that it's good.

I hate to be the negative prick on opinions of bands, but these guys are terrible imo. They just seem like a knock off of SwS and PtV. The song just sounds slow for me to put on my ipod, the lyrics don't really do it justice either compared to what johnny has done in the past with other bands. hopefully all of his song will not be this slow.

Jonny Craig should make The Upgrade PT III when he makes his solo R&B album doe. Im loving the story here.

this is weird/strange/odd music that is difficult to sink in at first ,,,but ,,,, the more I play it the more I sing. its starts to kick in like a tiger. 

All Jonnys projects are a bit out off tempo and tune, but I am a huge fan of all his projects.

Jonny sounds just as amazing as he always had. But can we please get a different song? All his songs in emarosa, solo, and so on seem to be about the same thing. Just was hoping for something different.

drums are really lacking. and instrumentally in general. I think I came in here expecting it to sound more like DGD. probably shouldn't have. JC is still killing though. Props to him :)

the riff fits the theme of the song. not every part of every song has to be huge. its called song writing and structure 

So let me get this right, The Upgrade is about him marrying her because she is the love of his life. Now in this song it's about him realizing the mistake he made marrying her?

Took me a second to really start to like this song.. but now this song is fucking perfect. Just turn it up loud as you can and try not to belt out that hook.

I wasn't a fan of the Nu-Metalcore sound, but if Jonny is a part of it, I'm down. This is a little more subtle than OM&M and Issues. Definitely can dig it.

I love how Jonny ridiculed bands like Crown The Empire (wrongfully) for using open note chugs and yet, here we are. 
Still a good song, just laughing at the hypocrisy.

sounds almost as uninspired as the first single, though I prefer this over the two, lesser of two evils, I suppose. It's not that it's bad, and it's not that it's unoriginal, I enjoy the track, I just can't see myself investing time listening to it. I'm sure a lot of people can see the merit in thinking this one through: is this a song that will stick with you for years, like "lemon meringue tie", or "set it off like napalm"? I still regularly rock those songs in the car, this, I can't see being something that makes a lasting impression in the history of my musical life.

Oh and also......if you can understand what Jonny is singing in most songs, you must be a magician cause....its almost impossible haha He doesn't have good diction or pronunciation but thats his charm ;D

I like the singing, but the lyrics are terrible. Jonnys voice is angelic, like always.

The lyrics just seem weak in "The fire down below" and this song (Constantly repeating the same lines, really works only well when it isn't muddy so he can do his melody/accapellas which are unlike anyone else in this world) hopefully it will be better.

Jonny needs to go back to DGD, because they're really shitty now without him.

Such a solid tune. I've never been a huge fan of JC besides older DGD, but I can actually get with this. And the instrumentals are so sick. I wish the whole album had a heavier tone to it like this. But hey, it's their music not mine, right? Excited for some more tunes fellas.

Awwww yeah. This is what I've been waiting for. This is so good. Honestly though, I think some beefy screams somewhere would complete this song. But for real. This shit is awesome.

Like a lot of bands in this scene, it's just so formulaic. There is a certain amount of predictability that you can apply to this music that makes it boring, and without heart. That's why people loved DGD and Emarosa with Jonny, bc musically they were outside the chugga chugga-ness of this scene, it felt a bit more pure, more human, and you add jonnys voice, it was perfect. These guys are obviously very talented musicians, but they have carved a niche for themselves that only allow to do so much musically, they cut themselves short to fit a scene it seems. I mean, they should be playing periphery like riffs, not designing canvases for jonny to sing over, just like every bit of music that has been released outside of dgd and emarosa for jonny. He's like a rapper, they right a dope beat and bring jonny to sing over it, I wonder how much he contributes to song structure and so on. I'd really like to see how they write songs.

this instrumental is weird... the mix is weird. Nothing stands out . Not even the vocals . The drumming is boring for this song .     IDK  i hope the rest of the album is great though

Another meh song from Slaves. JC's weak songwriting is very evident again, with a rather uninteresting melody and boring and repeated lyrics. The only part of the vocals that stands out as really good to me is when he says "you do it all right" in the chorus. Instrumentals are fine. He's got an amazing voice but it's not being utilized properly

I prefer the "chuggy" riffs. Why should the need to think of something overly complicated to impress people when they can just to a few chugs to fit the melody? The chugging aspect is what's getting me excited for this album. It fits a more modern sound and seems like something I'd listen to

Is it just me or does Danny Worsnop's vocals post-surgery sound a lot like Johnny's? I'm not comparing their skill because comparing 2 different genres would be stupid. They just sound very similar.

Like someone else has said, both this and "The Fire Down Below" seem to have some muddy mixing. It's a bit hard to comprehend what Jonny is saying unless you listen extremely close. On another note, I'm digging the instrumental on this track but it seems like the vocals are all over the place (not saying he's out of key or anything of that sort) in the sense that... I don't know how to say it, I guess it's not as melodic as I'd want it? I loved Jonny's vocals in DTBM I & 2 as well as Relativity and Emarosa's self-titled. Hopefully the rest of the album really pulls it all together and if not... this is only SLAVES' first album, I'm sure it won't be the last.

I can understand him in almost anything he's been in. Including westerhalts, but the reason for the songs being muddy is that it's YouTube. Once the album actually comes out in full quality you will be able to tell how good the mix is.

Yeah, you can understand him, but you have to focus on his lyrics. I agree with some of what OP said, but I think that they make Jonny's voice that way for a reason. They did it often with emarosa. It makes it so you can either rock out with the instrumental, or focus on the lyrics. I dig it, it makes them unique.

The instruments are dull, and generic. Luckily, johnny's voice turns everything it touches into gold.

I listen to a pretty wide array of music, metal to pop to a lot of electronic, the only stuff i won't give a shot is country really. They are the band that started charging their fans to take pictures and give autographs, so in my book they just want money from their fans. SWS couldn't care less about the well-being of their fans, it just so happens that their music mirrors the same feelings that the fans have, and therefore it helps the fans cope. SWS did not write their music with their fans in mind, they wrote their music with their own feelings and experiences in mind. I'm sorry, but they are a band. Their job is to make music. Where does the money come from? Not from the music producers, the bands get money from the fans, whether they help their fans or not is not their concern.

@Alex Smith Mitch sucked live just so you know, but SWS has millions of fans, considering there are thousands of fans coming out to their shows every day in hundreds of different cities, some of their festival sets have tens of thousands of people, and look at the number of likes they have on facebook. Over 2.6 million likes. It's safe to say not all those who do like the page listen often to the band, but I am sure most would consider themselves fans. Also, no, I am very sure SWS writes a decent number of their songs for more than just themselves, considering they aren't the most self centered people in the scene. But Matt Shadows is a good vocalist, but I wouldn't go as far to say him, or Mitch were the best vocalists in all of music, considering there are vocalists in other genres that are much much more talented. Maybe in their genres they are up there. Personally I think Caleb Shomo is much more talented of a vocalist, as well as Jeremy McKinnon, Jonny Craig, and the lead singer of Chunk! No, Captain Chunk is very good as well. I'm not saying Mitch and Matt aren't good, just I prefer others, and wouldn't go as far as saying they're the best overall vocalists.

i dont see how any of you can say j craig hasnt progressed as an artist. These lyrics are probably some of the deepest and best written hes done. Take a little bit of thinking behind them. His voice is better than ever and he really sings with some motivation and passion. The guitar works in this are really intricate and sound so damn hypnotizing in the background. This shit is fire, and im too stoked to see them in may and hear the rest of this album.
