I can relate to this song so much.

“I remember when we used to laugh about nothing at all” it was true we would just burst out laughing randomly when nothing happened. It was also us just laughing away our problems, I suppose.

“It was better than going mad, From trying to solve all the problems we’re going through” we all had abusive families and those nights would be the nights when we didn’t have to go crazy trying to find a way to escape our hard lives.

“Forget em all” we really did forget about everything at those times.

“Cause on those nights we would stand and never fall” on those nights we would all talk to each other about our problems at home and laugh and have a good time, it helped all of us stand up instead of falling down again.

“Together we faced it all” we didn’t go through it alone because all of us were going through very similar things so together we faced it all.

“I remember when we used to drive anywhere but here as long as we’d forget our lives” I was the oldest and the first to get my drivers license and I would drive us to wherever we were gonna go, we didn’t care where we went as long as we forgot our abusive lives and we weren’t home.

“We were so young and confused that we didn’t know to laugh or cry” we didn’t know whether to laugh and just forget our lives or cry and let it all out.

“Those nights were ours” they were our one time to be ourselves and nobody was gonna stop us.

I think they left it unfinished because life is a mystery and can end in so many different ways and/or our lives are still going we’ve gotten through the hard times but that doesn’t mean they have to end so soon.

I remember one time when I had to watch 2 of my cousins by myself, I was in middle school and they were still in elementary. My grandma and their mom were heading to a bridal shower and my mom was home but she didn’t wanna go downstairs and watch us so I took up the responsibility. Before the adults left I was “joking” about heading down to the basement. Once they left I started to head to the laundry room, the way to the basement is connected to the laundry room. They asked where I was going and I said “oh you thought I was joking?” We didn’t get caught but we had fun. We always got into trouble together for example one time my grandma was watching the 3 of us and gave us jerky she said we all could have 1 piece of jerky and one piece only. She decided to head into her room for a little bit. I came up with a plan and they caught onto it quickly, I said I was getting some water and I would take a cup, quickly grab some jerky and hide a little bit in my pocket, fill up the cup with water and come back splitting up whatever jerky I got. My grandma kept on putting on headphones taking them off writing something down and then repeat, I caught on to a plan Tristen had, whenever she put on the headphones Tristen would quickly, but quietly grab a couple pieces of jerky from the bag and rush back to the couch and split it up. They would ask for me to get them milk, it wasn’t weird as every time they came over they asked for milk. I did and every time I would bring back jerky, I had to wash out and refill the cups with water cus grandma said they could only have 1 cup of milk each, but hey it worked and we didn’t get caught. We ended up getting 10 pieces each.

I've been listening to this song a lot lately. I'm struggling with a decision that reminds me too much of the past. My brother and I were the best of friends, but I did a lot of stuff I'm not proud of. I want to let go of all of it and not define myself by what I've done to survive anymore. Thank you for that.
