Sir Mix-A-Lot - National Anthem Lyrics

[Intro: Mix talks while The Star Spangled Banner plays in the background]

Huey B. Newton shot in cold blood in west Oakland
Oliver North receives community service hours
for selling weapons to known terrorists
Tawana was brutally raped, but two fools said she did it to herself
A six hundred million dollar stealth bomber fails to fly successfully
And you say I should be proud of this song
Think about it AMERICA!

[Verse One: Sir Mix-a-Lot]

I'm living like hell in a world of death
Protectors of the people wear bullet-proof vests
Your little nephew, flipped him a Uzi
Took to the streets, shot em up and then "Who me?"
Locked in a trunk by Republican villains
Pinstripe suits, experts at killin
Civil war, but some want out
Trapped in a box called the ghetto we shout
Headin for the strip cuz the squares ain't hip
Sell a couple keys, make the home boys trip
The president is a dope man's friend
The governments strong but the dope got in
Punish the accused, but the trial was short
A black man's dogged in a all white court
The jury dismissed, prosecutor says, "Can em"
Now I'm ashamed of my national anthem

[Verse Two: Sir Mix-a-Lot]

The pentagon had a plan for a rescue
They said intelligence never makes miscues
The thirty-first was a day of death
Lieutenant Colonel Higgins, you know the rest
No negotions with a terrorist force
But Iran's still buzzin' offa Oliver North
The Ayatollah's dead but the hearts not gone
The burning of the flag in Iran goes on
Anti-American, we're loved by few
We pay big money to the ones that do
The christian militia, they give us big knowledge
But the pentagon messed up and wouldn't acknowledge
Ollie took orders from the number one man
But the crap hit the fan and superiors ran
Democrats tripped, the committee said can em
Now I'm ashamed of my national anthem

[Verse Three: Sir Mix-a-Lot]

Am I a communist? No. But my brain ain't slow
Not long ago, Mix-a-Lot was po'
Never helped out by the ones with clout
I was mad at the world cause I felt left out
Stealin hub caps, stereos, anything to get paid
I realize I'm a modern day slave
Posse downtown, the sight was set
I saw my home boys mother with a buggy and a bag
People walk by, laughin at poverty
I looked in her face and I soon saw me
College educated, but she can't get a job
The american dream once again got robbed
Vietnam vets on the street, that's a shame
Fight for the man, and the man plays games
Dogged by the hippies, dope smokin' critics
You blame it on the soldier, but your government did it

My national anthem
My national anthem
You gonna teach me now about the care and feedin of politicians

[Verse Four: Sir Mix-a-Lot]

Bolivia, Columbia, the CIA
Any similarities, I won't say
But the dope gets in, uncut like P-Funk
Headin over borders in a scent-free trunk
Coffee over dope, but the dog can't sniff it
Remember that lady that was broke, she's widdit
Started with a key, clocked 17 G's
Then got another shipment, pure D
Headin for Brumlen, the money was betta
Rollin in a Porsche, in a cashmere sweater
Crime, revenge, I'm tellin you this
The people that laugh are the people that knows
Her community complained, callin the police
But where was the community when she was in the street
Dope's comin in, it's killin em at random
And I'm ashamed of my national anthem

My national anthem
My national anthem
My national anthem
I'm ashamed of my national anthem

Sir Mix-A-Lot National Anthem Comments

If you are serious about these concerns there are some 190 countries out there for you to choose from. Just as you account the uneven hand of the law towards coloreds, I educated myself into a NOID. Google NOID! Only in America can a colored man, against all the white power in the Universe, rise up from a self inflicted wound, where the white gathered like piranha, and use that wound to produce a NOID. I beat the piranha.

Not one of his best moments. Seems like he was very frustrated at the time. This was back in 89 apparently, things have changed alot since then. Who knows how mix a lot feels today? He could have a totally different opinion now, or he might still hold these beliefs. Either way, while this song leaves a bad taste in my mouth, it's still an old song and one song at that. I don't think this would change my opinion of sir mix alot too much unless it were released today in the modern era of Trump and frequent anti American protests.

I love it and I'll never leave it, but Goddamned if it doesn't need to get its shit together.

  9. G.... R....

Man... it's bad that the original video featuring Iran Contra news footage vanished... :(

  10. J.... B....

I wonder if we'll get a new version of this song considering the uproar we're having now because of the protest of the National Anthem going on in the NFL ? I think it would be pretty cool.

Unemployment numbers are never correct because once the people who are unemployed, who do not receive any unemployment checks, are not COUNTED.

  11. E.... L....

The song depicts to some degree what we face this election year.

    I substitute some things...

Republican villains Republican can say POLITICAL

    Drugs - Terrorist

LtCol. Higgins' hanging - 9/11 No, 9/11 was MORE THAN BAD! Stop using the Family Guy quote, Rachel. (Friend of mine who is a Family Guy fan & loves Stewie)

IF someone was politically pissed off and had money to buy to cover the track, they could remake it.

May not get airtime...but will make people think.

    E.... L....

Republican Villians = Ronald Reagan/Oliver North (CIA connections with Cocaine coming in from Nicaragua). Another source is Dark Alliance by Gary Webb. It was a lot more going on than America selling guns to IRAN (illegally) and IRAQ (legally). (see Iran-Iraq War 1980-1988)

  12. U.... O....

  16. A.... S....

I really like how the video came out but made a few mistakes at the end the flag isn't supposed to be right side up and I didn't spin the last 2 national anthems. Even with the mistakes I think its cool the way it turned out.

    A.... S....

I got them off of a lyrics site so I don't know. As far as I know they are right.

    A.... S....

    @Anthony Shelton
Like " locked in a trunk ( by republican villains ) " is actually " locked in a trap ". Very audible if you just listen. And " Headed for Brumlen? lol. Brumlen? " Its " Headed for Portland " as in ' Portland, Oregon ' ; which at that time especially, was significant to Seattle peeps as Seattle was to Portland peeps. Only a few minor errors in the posted lyrics, but yeah, still not 100 % correct.

    A.... S....

Actually It's great the flag turned back at the end. :) Great job.

    A.... S....

Don't be so hard on yourself. You did an excellent job.

  17. j.... h....

This song is just as relevant today as it was then. I'm just happy I was able to retire with my life during the previous administration...
There needs to be a part II for today, Mix!! Where r ya!!!

  18. j.... ....

Really wish he'd done more like this. Too far to the left for my tastes but this is so smart.

  19. P.... B....
