Siouxsie And The Banshees - Monitor Lyrics

Monitor outside
For the people inside
A prevention of crime
A passing of time

They come and they go
It's a passing of time
They come and they go
Whilst we sit in our homes

Sit back and enjoy
The real McCoy
Our new air of authority
Our sentinel of misery

His face was full of intent
And we shook with excitement
Then the victim stared up
Looked strangely at the screen
As if her pain was our fault
But that's entertainment
What we crave for inside
No more second rate movies
From those people outside

This song is so heavy, it's way ahead of it's time. Just like Killing Joke's first album.

The riff sound very similar to Deftones - Be quiet and drive.

Witches outside, inside, welcome at night of scare!!!

  26. D.... K....

To me, that deftones song sounds very similar to this in the guitar

    D.... K....

    jacky slack „shove it“?

    D.... K....

Y Tho yeah one of their songs, honestly their songs sound the same to me so idk

    D.... K....

jacky slack it’s the only one I know lol but I can hear that aswell. That’s why I asked. It’s not very obvious so I thought that was especially cool

    D.... K....

Yeah I’ve always thought the riff to “Be quiet and drive” is very similar and Deftones are fans of The Banshees so it’s likely they took it as inspiration.

  27. f.... ....

i swear theres another song out there that sounds just like this one but its a more popular song i just cant remember what it was

    f.... ....

Be quiet and drive by Deftones

  37. D.... E....

Budgie pounding one out!. Band was tight as a virgin on this record.

  38. s.... e....

I used to think Siouxsie was my buddy's sister and friend's music. We listened to hardcore and punk. Until I heard this song 20 years later in a skate flick....Darren Navarrette part?

  39. J.... D....

I love how much skaters adore this band! I'm not one myself, but have known dudes that appreciate the energy the Banshees have and include them in videos, mixtapes, or just bump the music while practicing with friends.

    Thanks for your lyrics post.

  67. J.... ....

    lyrics please? LMAO

    J.... ....

+Jordiknot why LMAO? do you get it comes across as if you are joking when you are asking for the lyrics? Or that you're not getting that after the question you are saying 'I'm laughing so hard right now' Just a small fyi . I think ppl nowadays say LMAO or use the emoji with the laughing with tears coming out to lighten a situation, but it can end up being insulting unintentionally. JORDIKNOT, very cool shirt.

    J.... ....

you're welcome for the butt hurt and thank you for the shirt..........lmao

  68. D.... ....

Three dislikes, and another mystery. Why would any sane person randomly choose a video of an album track from a band they don't like, or (more likely have never even heard of) and then click the dislike button?

I think I'll head over to some fucking C&W video now featuring some guy from Nebraska with a double barreled name, and randomly click dislike - Just to see what it feels like.

    D.... ....

    called haters

    D.... ....

Some guy from Nebraska has a lot more in common withSATB than some rapper from the east or west coast

    D.... ....

I will say this much! This person never heard of "Siouxsie and the Banshees" and still continues to jerk off to BEYONCE!!!!

    D.... ....

Deekayguy1 Maybe, just maybe, in some completely hypothetical, totally unrealistic situation, they, listened to it for the first time, and, did not like it? I know the theory sounds a bit far fetched, but it could happen.

    D.... ....

David Schlotterback how dare you even mention this nonsense, David. Truly atrocious.

  69. J.... S....

    yes yes yes

  70. k.... ....

more McGeoch mastery and there was plenty of it! 1st time I've listened to Ju Ju in 25 years or so!

    k.... ....

+kendokunti Just a shame Sioux and Severin didn't have the intelligence to hang onto him despite his issues in 1982. The Banshees were a truly great band with him in it.

    k.... ....

There was so much greatness to come after him though!
No Robert Smith = No Hyaena, for example.

    k.... ....

Budgie said he was asked to join back but he denied and said he was happy with PIL  and didn't want to ruin his hardly found balance

  71. T.... ....

The sound/style of this (awesome) song always takes me to the debutalbum of Killing Joke (also awesome btw).

    T.... ....

+TheSanveana Indeed, reminds me of Killing Joke. Long time ago :-)

    T.... ....

    exactly!

    T.... ....

When they lost John, they wanted to get Geordie as his replacement.

    Sick. Glad I'm listening

  75. N.... N....

    Siouxsie...just the best....inspirational....

  76. s.... ....

anyone else feel like this has a very smashing pumpkins siamese dream vibe? I can totally see the influence of Siouxsie on Billy

    s.... ....

I'll second that.  Tristessa, from Gish,  has similarities: Repetitive angular guitar line, minor chords.  I like SP a great deal, but I would be the first to admit Corgan & Co. were not so much inventing a new genre as gathering bits and pieces of the past: Sabbath, Blue Cheer, and late 70s early 80s punk/post punk.

    s.... ....

    ugh.....

  82. v.... ....

    At CONSIDERABLYMORE1 - brilliant idea.

If you have kids, as I do, educate them all the way back, musically speaking.

I've been very lucky that my daughter has had an open mind and open ear.

    v.... ....

    @virutallypowered rather famous or cozy

    v.... ....

virutallypowered ~ "All the way back..." -? Yeah, early 1980s is 'All the way back'. How knowledgable your children must be. Jesus...

  83. 6.... ....

Have to agree with you on both counts.

  84. N.... N....

You are all fools...Siouxsie is the last of a dying breed.....talented, gifted and fiersley independant to what she believes in...music is dead...lomg live Souixsie !!!

  85. t.... ....

    supreme

  86. K.... L....

Well said CONSIDERABLYMORE1. As a musician who started off at 12 with influences from bands like Siouxie, The Cure, The Mission etc etc, I can confirm you've said what I've struggled to say for years!!! As long as the likes of us know where the freedom in music still exists, it will never die.

    K.... L....

Kevin Leece you make music? I’d like to give it a listen!

  87. M.... ....

The Creatures for me. Feast and Boomerang in particular are superb. I often preferred The Banshee's B sides and pretty much everything on Feast sounds like it could be just that. Boomerang is very diverse and I suspect a lot of Siouxsie fans were less than enamoured with it. I swear by it ! Ju Ju undoubtedly The Banshee's best and most consistent album.

  88. s.... r....

Indeed they certainly will not I was fortunate enough to see The Banshees The Creatures but I was too young to see them when John McGeogh was with them I really envy those who had the luck to see The Banshees at that time although John Valentine Carruthers who I saw was my favourite Banshee guitarist after McGeogh so I consider myself very lucky to have been there even though I was only 12/13 and mum had to go with me!!! No theres never going to be anything like Siouxsie ever again ..sad fact
