Sinatra, Frank - Come Rain Or Come Shine Lyrics

I'm gonna love you like nobody's loved you
Come rain or come shine
High as a mountain and deep as a river
Come rain or come shine

[Bridge:]
I guess when you met me, it was just one of those things
But don't you ever bet me, 'cause I'm gonna be true if you let me

You're gonna love me like nobody's loved me
Come rain or come shine
We'll be happy together, unhappy together
Now won't that be just fine?

The days may be cloudy or sunny
We're in or we're out of the money
But I'm with you always
I'm with you rain or shine

[instrumental]

Days may be cloudy or sunny
We're in or we're out of the money
I'm with you, baby
I'm with you rain or shine

This is it, by the far the best version. Frank is incredible and as for Don Costa's arrangement, well it takes it to another plain !

    L.... M....

I agree, I think when I originally uploaded this to YT I couldn't find this version so I uploaded it myself, glad you enjoyed it.

  4. K.... L....

Uma das melhores gravações do Sinatra! Algum brasileiro por aí?

I awoke this morning whistling the tune of COME RAIN OR COME SHINE. It's always fascinated me that this wonderful Harold Arlen melody is basically just three notes. A repetition of 13 consecutive F-sharp notes (in this Costa arrangement) and a bridge/release (Days may be cloudy or sunny . . .) that is the same B note repeated (including the octave note) but it's the same B-major note repeated 17 times! Yet because of the perfectly fitting Johnny Mercer lyric the tune sounds anything but repetitious. It's a great song -- created magically from barely three different notes. Don Costa's opening and closing orchestral flourishes in fact contain more notes, which may contribute to the magic!

I read somewhere (Nancy Sinatra's biography of her Dad?) that she and Don Costa were backstage together one time when her Dad was performing this song with an orchestra with a string section to do Costa's great orchestration justice, and he remarked to Nancy that of all his arrangements, "This is my favorite. Best chart I ever wrote."

Thanks Stanley for that anecdote I'd not heard before, that

'When Frank sent a copy of the first pressing to Harold Arlen, he suggested that the great composer play "Come Rain Or Come Shine" "VERY LOUD!" I think Frank was on to something!'

this is one hell of a performance both by Sinatra a Costa .

  12. B.... W....

Just heard the Ray Charles version and it is also wonderful. What a fabulous song....

  13. B.... W....

Love love love this song and the arrangement is perfection. Makes me feel so romantic and happy...

  14. G.... C....

    The LEADER !

  15. B.... M....

Knocks all other versions into the dustbin. What an orchestration, staging Sinatra's voice to shine at his best, but the arrangement is superlative. Bluesy is what it needs.

    B.... M....

I agree Sinatra's rendition and the Costa arrangement are my all-time favorite. But right up there with them is Ray's rendition. One of the reasons that Frank (so sparing in his compliments) said famously of Ray: "The only true genius in our business." (the business of singing). That arrangement is pretty wonderful too. Check it out.

  21. G.... M....

the greatest chart ever written for MISTY...listen to that orchestration this proves DON COSTA was a genius...i have read comments by a guitarist who played on many Sinatra recordings and he thinks this is Frank's greatest recording...for me it is number 2 and number one is I HAVE DREAMED nelson riddle arrangement....RIP FAS and DC and NR and all the great great musicians who played on Frank's recordings...they live forever...

    G.... M....

I agree -- the best ever arrangement written for Errol Garner's best song which "proves Don Costa was a genius; I've read comments by a guitarist who played on many Sinatra recordings -- that he thinks this is Frank's greatest recording." Coincidentally, my all-time favorites are from the same remarkable album "The Concert Sinatra" that produced I HAVE DREAMED. My own favorite track from that Nelson Riddle arranged classic (recorded with a 70 piece orchestra on the MGM sound stage) is MY HEART STOOD STILL. But the entire album (mostly songs from my favorite composer Richard Rodgers) is my favorite Sinatra album -- just ahead of "STRINGS." Nelson Riddle said of the Concert Sinatra album, he never saw the singer better prepared, or in better voice. SINATRA & STRINGS album joins that one in my "Top 5" Sinatra album list. Every track is wonderful. Thanks for your comments, George Martin. p.s. I'm a guitarist and partial to an arranger who did all of his orchestrations on guitar. One of Sinatra's guitarist recalled the night Don Costa knocked on his hotel room door after midnight and asked to borrow his Gibson L-5 because he absolutely had to write an arrangement "right now."

  22. 2.... R....

Ray Charles version is better, no offense

    2.... R....

Funniest shit i heard in awhile thanks buddy I needed a good laugh 😂

    2.... R....

I agree - when it comes to the blues Ray was the greatest - Frank was great with other songs

  23. L.... M....

Should be 100m + views, there are some great versions but only one Frank. The fabulous orchestration and arranging of Don Costa really pulls at those emotions too !

  24. S.... G....

this is the definitive version of a great song, period

    S.... G....

    Amen..!!!

  25. B.... S....

I love you, Mrs. Brian M. Shaw !!!

  26. K.... H....

This will be my first dance with my husband at our wedding. It's in may, so if it rains, the song still makes the day magical. Also, we got engaged on pikes peak and also rafted the river that trip. Lots of little things in the song that are so fitting for us.

    K.... H....

    Nobody does it like Frank

    K.... H....

That's so great. Congrats on getting engaged!

    K.... H....

How did that turn out in the end? Keep us posted Kat

    K.... H....

Love your lovely recollection -- concise yet anecdotal. You summon up so many images . . . in so few words. Thanks for posting.

  27. M.... O....

Probably the best rendition and arrangement ever of "Come Rain or Come Shine." A great cut from a great album ("Sinatra and Strings"), arranged by one of the best: Don Costa. Every song on the album is beautiful, with exceptional beauty (IMHO) on "I Hadn't Anyone Till You" and the Intro to "Stardust," which is almost always omitted by most performers (a shame, since it's possibly the best part of the song).
    Sinatra was the best, ever.

    M.... O....

Yes indeed. No more to be said.

    Thanks for posting.

    M.... O....

Yes indeed. You have said it all.

    Tony

    M.... O....

I share your (two) favorite choices from the SINATRA & STRINGS album. Particularly one of the great English bandleader Ray Nobel's best, "I HADN'T ANYONE TILL YOU." And yes, who but Sinatra could have said to Don: "Let's just do the opening verse" (and none of the main chorus) allowing the arranger to take his sweet time on the orchestral introduction. As you said it so well, the opening verse is almost always omitted by most singers (a shame, since it's possibly the best part of the song). Thanks for posting, M.C. Oult.

just the best best best ..
Dylan Debut'd this tune in Oslo on October 1st, 2015 but no one does it this gooode..

  34. J.... P....

A true classic. Greta arranging and an incomparable voice.

Johnny Mercer - one of the greatest of the great American lyricists.

  36. s.... ....

On this day in 1950 {May 27th} Frank Sinatra made his national TV debut when he appeared on the NBC-TV program 'Star-Spangled Review', Bob Hope hosted the show...
'The Chairman of the Board' performed "Come Rain or Come Shine"; twelve years later in 1962 he would record the song for his 'Sinatra and Strings' album, and the album would peak at #8 on Billboard’s Top Albums chart...
It was the B-side of his 1962 single release "Stardust"; it could enter Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart on March 18th, 1962 for a one week stay at position #98...

  37. A.... P....

This is the way this song SHOULD be sung!

    A.... P....

    Allan Perry

    A.... P....

+Allan -- I have to agree with you on this. It works really well as a ballad. The uptempo versions by other singers seem a bit deranged by comparison. This arrangement by Don Costa feels like the treatment it deserves.

    A.... P....

Allan Perry Check out Billie Holiday

  38. Y.... R....

This for my one nd only

  39. D.... H....

The definitive version, as is so often the case with Sinatra.  I listened to Eileen Farrell's version, and she didn't wrap her voice around the notes the way Sinatra does effortlessly.

  40. J.... P....

Buddy Greco, Sammy Davies - these guys had that character in their voice timbres, but Sinatra was the most individualistic voice ever to hit the Jazz scene.

I'm gonna be true if ya let me.

  43. k.... j....

Not just a fabulous singer; an outstanding musician.

  44. j.... ....

@TheCrankyTechnician, there are a lot of shades between, for example, submissive dependence from abusive parents and insulting the parents that deserve respect. Both extreme attitudes are negative, but there are situations where staying quiet is the worst thing you can do and there are insults that are justifiable.
That's all apart from Eminem, I'm not a fan so I don't know how much truth there is in his lyrics.
And about art (again apart from Eminem): sometimes horrible people are brilliant artists. Take Salvador Dali, for example.

  45. G.... R....

dont say shit about eminem, if you really appreciate music you would find art in his, but the rest your right about

  46. m.... ....

NO ONE could or can sing this any better!

  47. L.... E....

    uuh, gorgeous

  48. j.... a....

Vintage Frank, but there is one where he takes off at the end. Really belts it out, and I can't find it.

  49. j.... ....

This is a song Frank used to perform all the time with Dorsey and James' band. And of course he always nailed it since he was the best artist in music along with Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. No next voice will ever come like this, we get the same crap: Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Eminem, Justin Bieber, LMFAO, Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, Adele, and Maroon 5. Forget those people. Focus on Frank, Dizzy, Bird, Dino, Sammy, Bing, Miles, Satchmo, and Prima.

  50. S.... ....

You mean "our" not "are". Also, it isn't necessary to capitalize every word. Only proper nouns (like names) and the word that begins the sentence. If you are attempting to criticize someone about disrespecting America, don't misrepresent us by having poor grammar, spelling, or punctuation. It makes all of us look uneducated when you do that.

  51. M.... A....

    Flawless

  52. j.... a....

I was lucky enough to take Frank and Toots fishing on my boat one day back in the 40's. We had a great day, not a lot of fish, but plenty of booze and laughs. He was indeed the greatest.

    j.... a....

What a wonderful memory to cherish for a lifetime. Thanks for posting, Joe A. Smythe

Like this one? Probably never again, unfortunately....

  59. S.... V....

Nelson was indeed a GENIUS, but this was a Don Costa arrangement.

  60. G.... ....

    Hahahaha nice.

  61. d.... ....

Nelson Riddle I think. MASTER of Strings

  62. m.... ....

The arrangement on this song is amazingly well executed. The strings are full and lush and the horns are well balanced.

  63. t.... ....

damn man.. when will the next voice like this come along?

  64. J.... M....
