Sinatra, Frank - By The Time I Get To Phoenix Lyrics

By the time I get to Phoenix she'll be rising.
She'll find the note I left hanging on her door.
She'll laugh when she reads the part that says I'm leaving
`Cause I've left that girl so many times before.
By the time I make Albuquerque she'll be working.
She'll probably stop for lunch and give me a call.
But she'll just hear the phone keep on ringing, on the wall, that's all.
By the time I reach Oklahoma she'll be sleeping.
She'll turn softly and call my name out low.
And she'll cry just to think I'd really leave her,
Though time and time again I tried to tell her so.
She just didn't know I would really go.

FRANK SINATRA OWNS THIS SONG ! FUCK EVERYBODY ELSE !!

  14. j.... m....

This is one of the few songs that would make you stop whatever you were doing when you heard it on the radio. Even when you were too young to know about love. I miss hearing songs like this on the radio.

  15. C.... S....

    Love it

  16. F.... A....

Sinatra sings this wonderful song with so much feeling .The orchestration is also very good it captures the mood of Sinatra' s singing brilliantly.

  17. E.... R....

    Demais....boas recordações juventude

  18. C.... B....

This great song is just a snooze fest when done in this style. Some pop/country songs just don't translate well to Sinatra's style.

  19. M.... D....

wonderful Frank Sinatra, the very best, never be another one

  20. S.... M....

    Majestic.

  21. M.... B....

Sinatra said this is the greatest song ever written

  22. B.... ....

I love you Frank, but Isaac Hayes is the best version

  23. P.... M....

Sinatra- very atmospheric ! He's telling a story again! A 3-act play. Sinatra forever and a day!

  24. t.... b....

I've been going through all the versions, new and classic, and this one just gets it for me. I mean, Isaac Hayes will always be number 1 -- but this is sort of number 0.

    t.... b....

    What about Glen’s version tho?

  25. D.... J....

You are right. I'm 82 and I've loved him singing since a young boy.

  26. R.... L....

I  still  have to stay  with  Glen  Cambell

    R.... L....

Well, Glen has got his own. This is Sinatra; and here Frank has sung it so beautifully.

    R.... L....

For me it's Dean Martin's version

    R.... L....

    I'm for Marvin Gaye's version

  27. R.... P....

    😍😍😍🌹🍀

  28. S.... R....

the best music done in an good time after the second world war

  29. D.... J....

The greatest popular singer of all time

    D.... J....

You never said a truer thing in all your life Dennis. He brought so much feeling to any song he ever sung. A one off.

  30. y.... y....

    Very beautiful song <3

  31. R.... S....

Una preciosidad de canción, grande grande Frank Sinatra.

  32. m.... ....

I'm an unashamed Sinatraphile, and I will now get slaughtered, but I much prefer Engelbert Humperdinck singing this fabulous song.

  33. a.... ....

according to Frank he thought this was the greatest torch song ever written.

    a.... ....

With all respect to Frank, this can't be considered a torch song. In torch songs, the singer is lamenting about an unrequited love. In "By the Time I Get To Phoenix" the singer is basically dumping his lover and driving far, far away. It takes a special talent to be able to sing this song without sounding like a jerk.

    a.... ....

''She'll laugh when she reads the part that says I'm leaving cause I've left that girl so many times before'' I think Sinatra is right by calling this a torch song.

  34. c.... ....

NO ONE could ever translate like Frank!

    c.... ....

    Try listening to Dean's version

  35. b.... k....

    so good.

  36. S.... C....

He plays with the melody and takes liberties with it and gets away with it.

  37. A.... K....

    Wonderful

  38. H.... L....

This is a great , soulful rendition. Sinatra at his finest.

  39. J.... .....

I know I will get alot of hate for this... but Nick Cave sang this song so much better. Please don't kill me...

    J.... .....

Oh Steve Silverman, aren't you just so 'clever'??
Music is a very personal thing. Connection to a song, it's lyrics, its performance & performer, the circumstance of the moment in time - it's all personal. No one's connection is wrong, just real for them. I like Frank's version. I like Dean's version. I prefer Johnny's because it's significance to me has nothing to do with you or anybody else. It's a personal thing.

    J.... .....

I was kidding, however, to what is this "connection" being made? A memory of a similar circumstance in one's own life? A fondness for Secret Agent Man & Memphis? People generally like what's familiar to them and after a little digging I usually encourage a broadening of the palate. Some people actually think Trump's a great president so yes, to each his own.

    J.... .....

Steve Silverman my apologies for misinterpreting the humor. And I agree, I always love it when others share something that's new to me. Honestly, until recently, I had no idea Dean or Frank covered this song. And I do enjoy both. I tried others that are suggested and appreciate their sharing. Johnny's cover goes way back for me. And I guess I just prefer his voice in this tune. However, I do enjoy this one as well.

    s.... l....

+sunnyinlondon london and you made what ?

  43. s.... ....

The finest reading of an xlint song...very sincere and tender...

  44. b.... ....

Are you all deaf?? Try listening Dean Martin (Show) version and you will be in heaven. I like Frank too but this time Dean wins..

    b.... ....

It's about the arrangement too , dean's a better one ,with a beautiful choir line too

  45. m.... ....

Much as I LOVE Frank Sinatra,I don't like his interpretation of this fabulous song.
I much prefer the Engelbert Humperdink and Glen Campbell versions.

  46. F.... J....

It's official: it's Frank's world, and Jimmy Rivers and Glen Campbell are just living in it.

    F.... J....

Fred J Walsh total rubbish Fred both versions are different

    F.... J....

either you mean johnny rivers or jimmy webb

    F.... J....

There’s some folk out there who don’t appreciate the talent Glen Campbell possesses. ^^^This Fred J Walsh guy is one of them. Sad

  47. F.... M....

Perfect rendition. I love the part where he sings about the" phone ringing off the wall....that's all, that's all, that's all", Mimicking a phone's ring.

  48. z.... ....

Frank Albert's rendition of this song touches my soul... AWESOmely. No one bettered this man's phrasing.. Sublime

  49. b.... ....

And his cousin Johnny Rivers also. ;)

  50. .... ....

    Thanks ・・・for this sing.

  51. j.... ....

    perfection

  52. s.... ....

Such a beautiful and tender reading of this song...great!!

  53. G.... V....

this is the perfect example of why Frank was the greatest interpreter of music ever..Jimmy Webb must have been blown away hearing it.

  54. J.... F....

    Jimmy Rivers

  55. J.... G....

Esta es una des canciones que con más sentimiento canta Frank Sinatra. Extrordinaria interpretación.

  56. C.... ....

this is one of the most heartbreaking lyrics of all time - care of the amazing songwriter Jimmy Webb.

  57. b.... ....

it's you're kinda, not your kinda. your descripton is correct though

  58. P.... ....

Frank's timing is second to none

    P.... ....

PM793 love it and I'm a mad Glen Campbell fan. This is just as good but totally different to Glen's version. No comparison either way

  59. K.... ....

This is sooo beautiful, makes me cry every time I hear it. Have it on the big records in the cupboard and can't hear it. Thank you for putting it up here.

  60. n.... m....

    FANTASTICO

  61. B.... B....

    @cottageinmons Snide git.

  62. K.... B....

This is actually a Jimmy Webb song, not a Glenn Cmpbell...Love it! So tragic

  63. K.... N....

hello from France ! I m a big Sinatra fan. I love this song so much! thanks !

  64. M.... M....

Well, Mr. Pennacchio, he probably died of horror hearing people like you doing 'tribute' shows! When I hear of such shows I think of Only Fools and Horses when the guy did Roy Orbison's Cwying Over You! By the way, 'no' is 'no' not 'now'! Also I think only his wife, children and best friends called him Frank, the rest called him Mr. Sinatra

  65. d.... b....

lovely and sweet, that's the best way to sing this song in my opinion
    RIP Frank xxx

  66. m.... ....

    aint it jimmy webb´s song?

  67. f.... ....

As with so many other songs Sinatra makes 'Phoenix' his own, intimite song.
    From the 1968 'Cycles' album.
