I can't express how much I love this song. This is one of those songs that has so much emotions attached to it based on memories. Specifically the summer nights in Cape Cod.

This should have won Best Video of the Year, the song topping the charts. (I never heard it till last year. Another great statement on the music industry.) The pain caused by an affair - to everyone; but in this video, the least to the man. The pearls dropping towards the end, her white chair ... they speak volumes only Carly can sing. Thank you for posting something so poignant and perfectly done. (P.S. To paraphrase one rock icon, "Give the guitar player some." Superb playing by Mr. Jay Berliner.)

when this song came out I had the CD and played the shit out of it. My girlfriend at the time hated it. Ironically 25+ years later it's the one song that reminds me of her.

It was amazing how Carly bounced back after her divorce with James Taylor but she told him More time with the kids or you can just choose the Road and James Chose the Road...and Carly has always had such a wonderful smile, and I can't believe her son Ben Taylor is singing today.

@Joe Flash I hope you know that their daughter sang back-up/harmony on "It's Not Like Him"! I love Carly, feel like I grew up with her, from the Anticipation album on.

And that's the way I always heard it should be as well. Another one of my great fav's from Carly. And Yup That was Sally. I'm amazed that ben has 2 Great ones I hear playing often while reading at the Belleville Canada Chapters Bookstore Digest and lady magic and he sure sounds like his dad too. And Carly also did backup for her ex as well. It's too bad Her and James broke up. They were such a great team especially when it came to doing the remake of Charlie and Inex Fox's The Mockingbird. Wonderful duo.

+I don't think Carly has ever gotten over James Taylor and I don't think she ever will.I can tell in so many songs , even if it's just a line or two, I can tell she's singing to James. That's the reason she says a broken heart has more room in it to love. It's heartbreaking to me.

At 82 years old one might  think that this "old guy" cannot experience the feedings that this song brings back to my memories. The "white nights" that me and a lovely young lady experienced in the 70's. I still feel the passion.
