Silver Jews - Trains Across The Sea Lyrics
Troubles, no troubles, on the line
And I can't stand to see you
I can't stand to see you when you're crying at home
Scotch and Penecilin, please try Carlton
A cold black maple hanger and husbands on the run
That took me by surprise
And in there I met a lady her name was Shady Sides
And she said
"It's been evening all day long
It's been evening all day long
And how can something so old, be so wrong?"
Sin and gravity
Drag me down to sleep to dream of trains across the sea
Trains across the sea
Half hours on earth, what are they worth?
In 27 years I've drunk 50,000 beers
And they just wash against me
Like the sea into a pier

This is beautiful
How can something so old be so wrong
Fuck I miss you DCB!
Hey. Not all the similar of a style, but this is my tune inspired by a lyric in this tune.

Sucks to read what happened.
Listening to your music makes me wonder how hard it must've been to wake up some times and just live for you.
you wrote some amazing stuff dude, you deserve more recognition for all of it.
inspired by db, about the last hurricane https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvtRtDh3-Z8
Song's better than the video.
Camper Van Berman
It’s been evening all day long...rip
we are real. thanks.
RIP DC Berman
thanks for everything brother. this song has carried me thru the every trench and every crest thus far.
Most people won't realise we just lost this generation's Elliot Smith. Numbers are getting thin.
Dimitris Vasileias you do know DCB was older than Elliot Smith, right?
Obviously but I tried to make a point on important underground figures wearing down.
Take this strange song and make it better, remember that he was just another Jew, then you can start loving Jesus Christ more.
Never heard of this guy
well, that's too bad. now you obviously have since you're here. I never really understand why people comment with this anywhere. It's usually said in such an obnoxious kind of way.
@sunshaped read her profile name. Think she's being facetious
Bryan Aicher even if they were (not sure it’s a she), it’s been a common thing written under many articles about him, so i’m more annoyed about that generally..
Love you David. Hope you are finally happy.
I can't take this
RIP dave. I loved you since I was seventeen
Hope you found peace, DB. Thanks for the art.
Simpatico.
Thanks David
Losing him hurts so much
RIP RIP RIP
RIP rest easy DB
The picture of David and Cassie is heartbreaking.
Eric Zumbach exactly what I was just thinking
@Jacob MacDonald I met Cassie and talked with her when they played a show in Harvard Square. There were maybe 50 people at the Middle East. Just when Berman started touring. Bob even played drums. And it was just a little room full of people who had been around since Starlite Walker and wanted to hear David play some tracks. When I have grandkids I will tell them about the time I heard Berman play Trains Across the Sea.
I saw him later when he played the Middle East again and it was sold out. Still a small venue for the Joos. Maybe 700 people. And they played one of those songs I feel as if only I know all the words to, like "We are Real," and I was in a room filled with people singing along to a song I didn't know anyone else knew. If Berman had any idea how many people care about him he would run for president.
Wow! Both sound like amazing experiences. Well said, your grandkids are going to have a great taste in music!
I can’t believe he’s gone now :’( RIP David
unspeakably eloquent, unfathomably honest, ridiculously ubiquitous. it's been evenin all day long.
In 27 years i drank 50.000 beers
uhuhum
It is a loss we shall all have to endure the demise of said music. Here Here Mr. Berman.
Man, these fuckers grow on you....hmmm....so do warts!🤤just kidding, Jews Rule!
How can something so old, be so wrong?
I can say without hyperbole that this is the greatest indie rock song of the 90s, and maybe ever.
I can't decide if it's better than New Orleans
@Obiwan Kenobi I def go with New Orleans. I put 'Advice to the Graduate' pretty high too tbh. 'So you've got no friends and you wander through the night, now you watch the sun rise through a rifle site'. Amazing.
Most classically trained musicians cite this song as their primary inspiration for pursuing music as a career.
:-) ... very funny.
classically trained
Sin and gravity
Drag me down to sleep

I'm there. Right now. At home, alone, smiling.
serpentor420 yup
thank you.
The only problem with this song is the ending comes too soon
I agree, but better than too late, I guess.
4 years later and it's till too soon
how prophetic your comment was
I die a little bit more every time I listen to this song.
+Jim Thompson you should get that looked at bud
I know what you feel
I die a little bit more now
It's just one more beer washing off of the pier
Half hours on earth, what are they worth

Haha, no problem. My brother actually burned that cd years ago, but the official release is out now. Pretty cool. It wasn't until I got in my mid twenties that I really appreciated The Jews and Pavement. When I was 18-22ish I just didn't get it then. Peace

Also, check out the "new" album as of 7/25/12. It's just a bunch of Berman/Malkmus in the basement circa the early 90s.
