Kanye is an utter genius when it comes to sampling. This, Stronger, Diamonds from Sierra Leone, Otis and so many more are right near the top of my favourite songs - and kanye has also allowed me to discover and appreciate the originals. Beautiful.

@Xavier Dominguez I heard Devo Springsteen say in a video that Kanye gave him a few days to turn Shirley Bassey's sample into a dope beat, and he ended up giving it to kanye. maybe kanye edited the instrumental but Devo did the overall beat

I have heard this song the first time a couple of months ago, because i LOVE Labi´s "I Got The..." from the (also beloved) Sampled collection, for many years. So I finally started to do a research, that song is so good. With My song, It´s the first time i´ve listened to any Kanye´s "songs", i was curious. Labi´s version is like a natural silk. Kanye´s version is like a machine gun shooting to concrete. Typical for these times. One giant peacock showing off its feathers, while there is the real beast under the surface, quietly waiting. I take the beast, anytime.

people take the sampling way to negatively. Its not as if Kanye sampled this and now is like "oh look at this original song i fucking made." It's still Labi Siffre's song. Kanye found his own message within the song and used it, its not like hes disrespecting siffre, if anything, after finding out the sample I would think kanye respects him.

West didn't "take" Siffre's song. If anything West helped prove Siffre that his music can live on through generations. It's called sampling people it's an art too
