Shawn Colvin - 84,000 Different Delusions Lyrics
Good love
bad love
good love
yeah
My time
my time
yeah
84,000 different delusions
Take a ride in the car
84,000 different delusions
Good times
bad times
good times
Our world
their world
our world
yeah
84,000 different delusions
Meet me down at the bar
84,000 different delusions
Go look at the lake, please
Go look at the sky
Go look at a baby
We're all gonna die
84,000 different delusions
We don't know who we are
84,000 different delusions
We don't get very far
84,000 different delusions
Everyone is a star
84,000 different delusions...

Shawn Colvin 84,000 Different Delusions Comments
i used to listen to this album every day
Reminds me of my grandma. RIP
I've always thought it was a song about a town of 84 000 people. Sorry if that doesn't cheer anybody up.
atthebridge Shawn Colvin always cheers me up.
Goosebumps.
Amazing song.
Ya know, I can't say I know what this song means for certain, but she must have chosen the number 84000 for a reason. However, the only significance I can attach to this number comes from Buddhist traditions. According to that tradition, Buddha had given 84,000 different teachings to various types of people based on their needs.
Now, if she really is referring to this tradition, I truly wonder what she is trying to say in the song. So many different ways to interpret it.........
This song is indeed very Buddhist.
Duality is the delusion. Good love, bad love. etc.
Go look at the sky.
We are all gonna die.
The number 84000 was used to just denote a huge multitude.
So beautiful
April 3, 2015 - San Marcos, Texas - Dearest Shawna Lee, I'm sitting here listening again to this timeless track. The moods you can evoke in your songs. Your voice captivates me. Your ideas. Your perspective. Is love real? No one's made me think about that more deeply than you Shawn. Because of you and your vision, so beautifully transformed into song, I say 'yes'. Love is real but it is so delicate, so fragile, but in your voice it also is indestructible, tireless and always good. I love you. You're my Candlekin and you've opened my heart so many times that sometimes I think, like in this moment, that it can remain open. I reaffirm every day when I Iisten to you sing that I want my heart to remain open to you forever whether I have the pleasure of seeing you live again or not. You've given all of us that love you something eternal through your voice and your magical poems/songs. You're a very deep thinker Shawn and it seems to me that the subjects of your deep thoughts always revolve around the themes of love, loyalty, friendship and goodness. It's clear that you've been hurt many times on your journey as you've poured yourself out, year after year. I just want to say 'thank you' again! I never tire of listening to your songs especially the old ones, the ones that sprang most directly from that vision of yours. You are a marvel in so many ways. You leave me in awe every time I consider what it is about the magic you convey that moves me so much. There's nothing I like more to think about and to feel than the emotions you evoke in me...thank you for that. I wanted to comment briefly on the poem I left here. I don't consider you my favorite delusion anymore but I'm leaving the poem up. It's up to you to decide if it should stay. You are my most solid 'reality' today. You are the most beautiful, simple and graceful truth I know. I'm looking forward to hearing your new set of covers and I have no idea what to expect but I'm excited to know that I'll get to hear you sing more songs. I love you Shawn. You're not a delusion in any way to me. You're real, you're beautiful, you're the most relevant artist to me. I need you in my soulscape. My existence does not make sense to me without the magic you've brought into it and the example you've set in regard to how beautifully and gracefully one can live a life. How one can be in the world in such a loving and gentle and giving way year after year. You are a priceless treasure. That's what I really want to say. the poem reflects feelings that I projected that no longer are valid. Because of you I feel like I've been guided out of that style of thought. Self limiting thought. All I really care about now is that when we all cross over that I will be counted among your eternal friends! God Bless You today and everyday Candlekin. Wherever you are you are bringing smiles and lovely feelings to people. Because of you I 'know' that the human soul is 'real'...the most 'real'. I can't explain it or convince anyone else of it but I 'know' it because of you. For that 'thank you' is not enough. I want to write songs about it. I also want to know that's it's ok to do so. I want you to know that I would not even be thinking about these things if not for you. I wouldn't be here if not for you. And I'm sorry for going on and on here. It's meant as a private message. I hope you get it. I hope you read the poems I write for you and I hope you enjoy them I want to give something back to you for all the graceful things you've done. I love being here listening to the birds, listening to you and thinking still, after all these years, about how a life can look through your eyes. There's only one thing to say Shawn "I love you" and I can't wait to hear any new songs, covers or otherwise. Your music is the soundtrack for my life. I'm almost 3 months clean, sober and off cigarettes and my voice is almost back where it should be and I'm doing songs I've never done before like 'Close To You', 'Crazy Love' and 'I Won't Give Up' all because of you my Candlekin. I'm so grateful to God that you are, by some miracle, at the center of my soulscape. I would have been completely lost without you. I thank the Holy Spirit every day for you being in our world. I would not want to be in this world without you, your voice and your beacon of hope that I listen to every day! Peace

A Poem Inspired By Shawn Colvin
My Favorite Delusion
you are my favorite delusion
but one day being crazy
will be in vogue
where crazy reigns
crazy pours
in my dreams
all the faces are so hazy
I’m a hobo I’m a rogue
I ride on empty trains
but one face could be yours
I used to bribe the twilight moon
to help me read the signs
now I crawl around in the zoo
looking for flat fine lines
one could lead to you
now I mix with the fog
I listen for candle light
I keep my ear to the ground
for the sound of an anvil
before the next word is found
I listen to the voices
try to break the code
I ask every rollin’ stone
on every lonesome road
what it was like to be kicked by you
I sleep in graveyards
I sing for ghosts
of murdered blues
I ask em who done it
it must have been you
I sing for them
and them for me
but there is no cure
we never should have listened
to a voice so pure
Shawn Colvin
my most beautiful delusion
for sure

Don't sweat it brother. This is a brilliant song, full of emotion. I was just wondering why she chose that particular number - might not be important at all.
yeah sorry maybe I've them too friend --yeah was a misspell , funny how they change from day to day delusions and anger - again my apologies
84,000 seconds is exactly 40 minutes short of 24 hours; maybe this means 40 minutes of respite per day.
