Seven Mary Three - Water's Edge Lyrics
"Don't go there" I heard her say
"You can't stomach what you're going to see"
It's down there by the water's edge
Wasted and bloated and waiting for someone else
When you're tied to the teeth and mouth
No sound of fury, no shot of pain
There was no real reason, no gain
I can't go down to the water's edge
I didn't do it but I saw who did
Can't go down to the water's edge
They did it once and they can do it again
It ain't no secret to me
Cause I'd seen her a minute before
The van pulled up and opened the door
I can't say a single word
About what I saw of her
Cause her killers they got their friends
In familiar places, I tell you man
I can't go down to the water's edge
I didn't do it but I saw who did
Can't go down to the water's edge
They did it once and they can do it again
Again
Again
Again
(Again)
Don't go down to the water's edge you said to me
I didn't do it, but I saw who did you see
Don't go down to the water's edge
They did it once and they can do it again
This ain't no fucking game
And I'm feeling so ashamed
Cause I didn't do anything
No I didn't do anything
To stop, to stop, to stop, to stop
This from happening
I didn't do anything
To stop this
Don't go down to the water's edge you said to me
I didn't do it, but I saw who did you see
Don't go down to the water's edge
They did it once and they can do it again
I swear, I swear, I swear, I swear
I swear, I swear, I swear, I didn't do a thing
I should've done something

I don't know why the key change always stumps me on bass with this but I have got everything else down

The intro to this song sounds the same

they opened for aerosmith i think . fucking good band. ryhthym guitar was on FIRE. dont remember too much more. great song too.
A great song and a wonderfully interesting video. The black & white contrast very well with the sudden shots of red.
A Gibson and a Fender playing in perfect harmony. In the 90's, everyone got along.
just a bit
I'm probably responsible for a good 10K views on this one...
I haven't heard this song in a long time
at age 11, 45 years ago, I witnessed a murder while I was swimming in a lake. Later I learned the man 'Cotton" who commited the crime died in a traffic accident. I never told anyone what I had seen. This song quells some of the nightmares of my past.
Ok I thought this song was about homicide because the body was dumped from a van
BADBADBAD ASSSSS!!!!!
Chevelle
Kind of creepy

Saw them in Houston in 97. Still the best live show I've ever seen.
Damn good song,RegReT
This song reminds me of smoking cigarettes behind the school wearing my Jncos.
2019 and still listening...music is a time machine that floods in memories...some good some bad...friends lost and friends found. Always a 90s child!
When you took your dad's beer and he came home ... 3:25

Have done a movie based on this song yet?
Part 2 of toadies posium kingdom
Is anyone noticing that this song sounds exactly like "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down? First off, this song is much better than "Kryptonite" which probably made a lot more money and definitely received more airplay. Secondly, this song was released about 5 years before "Kryptonite". So that tells you who copied who. Is there a statute of limitations for plagiarism?
Hears for you Brad
2019 and still a great song
pearl jam
This is quite possibly the darkest song I have ever heard...so emotionally moving....
The 90s....a time when music was REALLY GOOD and it took ACTUAL TALENT
to make, unlike today's utter shyte (Yes, I'm looking at you Nicky Manaj
and co)
@M. stupid, then why are u listening to it...
And this ladies and gentlemen is why cumbersome is the only song on the radio..............
Common joke's the band must hear. "So, who in the band is named Mary"" :)

Who's still listening to this song in 2035, like me?
This reminds me an aweful lot of a song called "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Warrant. This song definately has a creepier feel and a more haunting video. Good stuff.
I saw these guys once. At Amos' in Charlotte NC. They sound just as awesome live!!!!
I really wish someone would upload the whole entire album as one track so I don't have to listen to YouTube's f****** ads thanks in advance
I can barely hear it the volume is so low
the FBI would like to speak with you
In the long run.....what does it really matter as it’s now been for years and years and years so ....oh well well well ....oh well🐒
the justice one seeks for herself has no expiration date
2019? March
Yo man you remember this album?. Got it for me for my 15th bday. Back when we were kids. Thanks bro.
The smiley face killer theme song
I truly miss this era of rock music! That whole first generation of grunge was awesome but the second generation with bands like Creed, Seven Mary Three and Days of the New we're just as good in my opinion! It is true what they say you really don't appreciate what you have until it's gone! This shit they have on now I don't even know what it is
Good song, but it’s essentially a bootleg version of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Warrant.
*eyeroll* cause writing about witnessing a murder and saying nothing is just SO unique a topic that it doesn't matter that the music and words are completely different...
I’m so glad I was born in 1990
Any guess how they got their name??
This was the first song I ever learned how to play on guitar. It's so simple, yet instantly recognizable.
"Add a Public Comment."
I miss my Doberman, and "Susie," my German Shepherd. A Vietnam throwaway. She went to the Monks upstate New York.
But for a time - she was mine. Scared the heck out of me (I think I was four). Rahway. It was only when she jumped 8 feet in the air and killed a bird - that I slapped the shit out of her (twice only). I became alpha.
I miss her soo. She scared me - I was afraid of her. Then I understood - I her pup.
Sorry, but from day one of this song being released, I always thought it was a complete ripoff of Richard Marx's "Hazard".
So was that brilliant show "Rectify", for that matter.
I heard this song at the Hard Rock rocksino casino the other night. Great song. It’s cool that hard rock still has this song in there rotation of songs.
Gotta get this album....never got into these guys but should have they came out during my high school years...was into the same kinda bands.
I always thought this was Pearl Jam.
This ain't no fucking game
I rate this song a 10 out of 10
Real music last a life time and knows no bounds, Time stops for No man...Music never should either...Tc warren...
**so I can sing along**
"don't go there" I heard her say
"you can't stomach what you're going to see"
It's down there, by the water's edge
wasted and bloated and waiting for someone else
funny how, these things come about
when you're tied to the teeth and mouth
no sound of fury, no shot of pain
there was no real reason, no gain
I can't go down to the water's edge
I didn't do it...I saw who did
Don't go down to the water's edge
they did it once and they can do it again
it ain't no secret to me
how she got there down by the stream
I'd seen her the minute before the van pulled up and opened
the door (took all my love)
but I can't say a single word
about what I saw of her
her killers...they got their friends
in familiar places, I tell you man
this ain't no fucking game
and I'm feeling so ashamed
because I didn't do anything
no I didn't do anything
to stop this from happening
I didn't do a thing
I swear
Does anyone know where this was recorded?
This song gets stuck in my head everytime i get locked up for child support.
😂😂😂😂😂
A number of people have been wondering about the inspiration for this song; many more claim they know. Here's the truth: This song was written by Jason Ross and based on a FICTIONAL short story. "It was based on a short story that I read when I was younger by Raymond Carver," Ross said. "I liked the idea that you can't go through your life just watching and never acting upon your impulses. You can do the right thing or you can let the moment pass you by. And if you let that moment pass you by, you're always gonna regret it." This song is based on a short story by the author Raymond Carver called "So Much Water, So Close to Home".
What a great tragedy song. Is it from a real happenstance?

Goosebumps even in 2018!

Did forensics ever run DNA on Jason Ross? Get cold-case over here on this immediately.
And I say that to say this, if you go snitching on the people he is talking about, they will turn it around on you and make it look like you confessed to a crime they committed. True story
Hey not all us millennials are bad man I’m 16 and this song is my shit I know I wasn’t around when the music was good but god damn I really wish I was
Keep rocking bubba!
Falleneath5346 Your cool.
Keep rockin kid.
You're GenZ kid, the millennials are in their thirties.
The song sounds almost Southern Gothic...
This song might be from the 90s but it is still a badass song by a awesome fucking band
Still rocking?!!
That guy from the Toadies did it.
Don't go down there
It's really heavy...
They made him shave his handlebars unreal Corporate America
We need music like this in 2018. One hell of an album and genre.
R.I.P. Jason, i will always remember you and still love you 22 years later.
thought i knew all the great grunge bands , this one i did nt know , what a great song brings tears to my eyes .
Sure he's copying Eddie vedder but in the process he's is fucking unbelievable
I'm the one who done it . Body disposal
one of THE BEST alternative songs of the 90s and way to underrated. imo it shoulda been bigger than cumbersome. for me this ranks with AiC-Would, Candlebox-You, Bush-Machinehead, Smashing Pumpkins-Bullet w/ butterfly wings, Collective Soul-December and Live-Lightning crashed
There is a lot to this song. Tragic
Reminds of the amazing movie The Rivers Edge. If you’ve never seen it watch it.
Reminds me of that song Uncle toms cabin.
Just gonna through this in here born in 98 just turned 20, i can say i know good music!
