Seger, Bob - Like A Rock Lyrics

Stood there boldly
Sweatin' in the sun
Felt like a million
Felt like number one
The height of summer
I'd never felt that strong
Like a rock

I was eighteen
Didn't have a care
Working for peanuts
Not a dime to spare
But I was lean and
Solid everywhere
Like a rock

My hands were steady
My eyes were clear and bright
My walk had purpose
My steps were quick and light
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like a rock

Like a rock
I was strong as I could be
Like a rock
Nothin' ever got to me
Like a rock
I was something to see
Like a rock

And I stood arrow-straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams

Twenty years now
Where'd they go?
Twenty years
I don't know
I sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they've gone

And sometimes late at night
Oh, when I'm bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin' a ghostly white
And I recall
I recall

Like a rock
Standin' arrow-straight
Like a rock
Chargin' from the gate
Like a rock
Carryin' the weight
Like a rock

Like a rock
The sun upon my skin
Like a rock
Hard against the wind
Like a rock
I see myself again
Like a rock
Oh, like a rock!

Looking at all these replies. Its amazing how music like this brings us all together. There is so much hate in this world. Its so cool there is something that still brings us all together. And for whatever this song means to each and every one of you. May peace be with you. I lost my father in law a little over a year ago and now i am loosing my dad slowly and its killing me music like this helps remember the good times. I hope at some point life will get easier. It was when we were all young.

The man's a musical genius. I used this song as a teaching lesson on the first day of high school for my students. It was a gift to them to appreciate their youth and the finite truth of time.

  74. B.... N....

That train! Get the symbolism? Those rail cars are the days of your life passing right in front of you. Like a train, you can't stop them, so don't waste them. 20 years where did they go? Powerful message in this video! Take heed!

  84. B.... A....

    The best

  85. C.... ....

Reminds me of my granddad who recently passed. Really doesn't help that I drive his old truck every day. It might just be a 2000 Silverado 1500, but those (surprising) 53k miles it had on it were all his. To know where that vehicle had been and the memories that had been made in it makes me love that vehicle even more. Might just be a truck, but it's mine, and it's a Chevrolet.

    C.... ....

Good to hear that you cherish your granddad and his life.
