It's funny, I didn't really like this album much when I first heard it. But I kept coming back for 17 coked up and speeding, and then I eventually gave the full album a second listening and something clicked. It's just so noisey and punk, I love it.
This video is great though, haha. It seems like they knew right from the getgo that some fans would not like the album and just embraced it head-on.

It pisses me off that I love SA but this record is so shitty. I physically can’t listen to it, it makes me wanna scratch my brain out. Glad others like it.

Funny enough, this reminds me of a line I heard in the movie "Ruby Sparks" that goes "Kill your idols man, I'm all for it." And since I'm procrastinating on a project whose theme is literally "make a movie about someone you respect or idolize," Max is completely that for me. Like, I'm so happy that he beat his addictions, has gotten a handle on his Bipolar Disorder (which I have too), and has found the love of his life and made a family with her - but I always have to bring him back down and remember, he's just a human. He's made mistakes before, and he's done things that I personally, would never do (mainly the drugs). Regardless, I'm still glad Say Anything is a thing, because even though I didn't get into them hardcore until like 2009, they made that gap of my early 20's where I was directionless and purposeless a lot more bearable.

Love how this video represents the original fans that have stayed with him, and the fans who only like IARB and abandoned him after they deemed him a sellout. No matter how Max feels burned and his die hard fans do too, he's making what he wants and he's happy with it. In the end he's one of my favorite artist regardless how many people leave the band, no matter if Max is making a dollar or a million, or if he's punk or pop. I grew up with his music from middle school through high school, I feel his music has been there more than anything else.

if you don't like how it sounds altogether, it's a shame, but you can always look back on the good ones, and look forward to the next well mixed and fine-tuned album :p

I would like to apologize. When I first watched this video I missed the point (due to missing the part where he burns his SA stuff) and didn't watch it all the way through to the part where he murders the shit out of the band. Good vid

+neversaw I actually started at Hebrews and had to run backwards to figure everything out. I love Hebrews to death! Is a Real Boy IS a fantastic album, there's no doubt there, but I'd listen to the self titled album over it any day. Hebrews just has my heart too. And this album got me. Max is just a great songwriter and it's nice to see him mature and change shape and BE as an artist what most artists can't seem to grasp and that's human.

Say Anything was their last album that I could put on and listen to in its entirety. Each new album as a few good ones but I dislike the majority, I think it's more my taste changing than their issue.

Awesome song, awesome album, hilarious video. These last two albums have felt so far out of Max's comfort zone yet sound completely like Say Anything albums.

The song is not good. I know, I'm "the guy who loved all the previous albums but not this one", but even if they don't care, I sadly care that I don't like most of their new album. But this video is awesome. They still get it and Max is still a genius. I'm looking forward to their next album ;)

Even if I don't like the direction a new song/album of theirs takes at first, it always grows on me eventually. Including this one, and lyrically they always blow me away. I can listen to each album and be reminded how my life was at that time. That's why I don't mind if they change and will always have the utmost respect for Max.

+Thebigk5 same exact thing here - sometimes the sound takes some getting used to but i always manage to appreciate max' work for what it is and sometimes it really does take more than one listen. i used to feel iffy abt hebrews but its one of my fave albums right now, and im sure i dont think it is will grown on me too. it already has compared to when i first heard it. you can just tell hes having fun and doing what he wants w his music and that alone makes it so much better.
