Saxon - Speed Merchants Lyrics

Turn the wheel, start the drift
On the turn, make the shift
Spinning wheels, burning rubber
Hear the engine scream
Revving high, reach the limit
Turbocharged and born to live it
On the edge, give it more
Listen to the engine roar

Ram the throttle down
Listen to the sound

Speed merchants
Take it to the limit
Speed merchants
Loving every minute

Choose the cars, start the fight
Who's the fastest from the lights
Acceleration pure and sweet
Ram the pedal down
Hit the red line, hear the sound
Hold you nerve, you're gaining ground
Charging fast across the line
Hit the brakes and check the time

Racing through the gears
It's music to your ears

Speed merchants
Take it to the limit
Speed merchants
Loving every minute

Speed merchants
Ram the throttle down
Speed merchants
Don't you hear the sound?

On the track through twists and turns
Tires squeal and rubber burns
Who's the fastest on the day?
It's way too close to call
Run the slow mo, take the shot
Motor screaming, running hot
Every second like an hour
Petrol heads and raw horse power

Ram the throttle down
Don't you love the sound?

Speed merchants
Take it to the limit
Speed merchants
Loving every minute

Speed merchants
Turn the wheel and spin it
Speed merchants
Loving every minute

    Decent tune.

Only 32 cmts....it is just sad. This LP is really a good one, but I ve got the feeling guys are repeating themselves over and over and over again. Unlike Priest, that tries new things (OK, not on Firepower), but in general they have changed a lot during 40yrs in business, but Saxon....I don't know. I mean a like them, but I am missing that wow moment

I like this track because it gives a nod to their classic sound of yesteryear and is memorable. I'm finding a lot of their recent albums just blend into one another for me. Give us more tracks like this and 'I've Got to Rock(To Stay Alive'). Nothing wrong with songs being catchy.

Love the album, but this is my favourite track! Maybe it's because of the lyrics 🏍🏎🚗🏁, maybe it's because I hear a hint of Judas Priest in the chorus, or even a touch of Iron Maiden in the final section of the guitar solos, but all in all, this is classic Saxon, up loud and fast for 2018! Love It! 🤘 Roll on Manchester, I can't wait!!!

    K.... S....

Priest and maiden you are spot on there!

    K.... S....

Naw, pure Saxon! Sounds like many of the faster songs of THEIR releases since the early 90's when they got a little thrashier. Loving the fact they keep making this stuff! They have been my favorite band since rediscovering them in the late 90's! Hard to believe these guys (or almost all of them in the band), are in their 60's putting this stuff out still! Long Live Saxon!

    K.... S....

Brian Sauer Yeah, the sound is no surprise to me, I've got everything they've done, and some of the 90s and 00s stuff is crushingly heavy! Unleash The Beast is my favourite album from the 90s, I think that was the turning point into the newer, modern sounding Saxon, though Forever Free and Dogs of War are good albums too, I'm just thankful they stayed going after Destiny and got back to making proper rock music again! But Yeah, Speed Merchants is proper Saxon definitely... but I still say the chorus reminds me of the pre-chorus in 'Hell Bent for Leather' with the backing vocals (Which is ace) and the harmonised guitar section at the end of the solo reminds me of the main harmonised guitar riff in 'Aces High' (Which is also ace)... and like I say in my original comment, that's probably why I like Speed Merchants so much; Saxon being my favourite metal band full stop, with Priest and Maiden not far behind! 😉

    K.... S....

Ya, I know whatcha mean. That's the beauty of music in that everyone hears something different. I do actually hear hints of Judas Priest's newer stuff since Painkiller. Like, Saxon with Unleash The Beast, I think Painkiller was Priest's turning point. Maiden, to me, is a different beast (pardon the pun!). Biff and Halford's voices are gruffer whereas Bruce seems to sing more. And Maiden's instrumental music seems just a tad different. # Of The Beast and Screaming came out when I was 14 and just getting into metal. Tough call as to who was my favorite then. My first concert was the Powerslave tour with Twisted Sister. Friggin' awesome! seen the two of them numerous times over the years.

Funny you mention Unleash The Beast. Liked Saxon back then but for some reason, didn't get into them as much. Thought they went away after Destiny, but rediscovered them in the late 90's with a mixed compilation CD with Unleash and Circle Of Light, then the live release with Forever Free (been riding for 32 years-it'll be my funeral song!). Those blew me away, which started a search for their other releases and eventually to my obsession with Saxon and them being my favorite band! Finally, after 2 false starts (no work visas for their US tour in '05 and Iowa rock festival cancelled in '08) I got to see them in 2011 and the last 4 times they've played. About to see them Tuesday night in London Ontario (with Priest!). Friggin' STOKED! New Saxon tracks sound GREAT!

    K.... S....

BTW Kaine, isn't it great to see that so many bands that we listen to have continued to put out the same hard and heavy music for over 40 years??? Look at the world of that pre fabricated pop garbage with all it's computer generated "beats". No way you'll see any of these "artists" 40 years from now or even hear about them. Why? 'Cause it isn't MUSIC! Unfortunately, they're getting older and we've lost a few of my favs in the last 8 years (Dio,Lemmy), so let's hope the others continue on for at least another 10 years. I know I'll be banging my head, till I'm dead!LOL!

  27. A.... A....

Fuck yeah Saxon! Waiting for you in Seville, Spain! \m/
