Obviously a bunch of brain dead Iron Maiden fans were here to trash the best anti war song ever written from the best band ever formed in the world of heavy metal SAXON!!!! You come from Northern England you know what I mean. Maiden outsold Saxon, but they never will outshine them. Unlike Iron Maiden who are Imperialists and right wing fanatic war mongers Biff knew that a lot of soldiers and people were gonna die in disgraceful Falklands War. Biff is a unique vocalist like Phil Mogg in UFO and Jon Deverill in Tygers Of Pan Tang are. You just have to look beneath the success and the masses that popularize horrible bands from Maiden to some of the really low class stuff where they don't even have Maiden's musicianship as lacking in emotion as all their music is. Technically they are good, but they are devoid of any compassion and love violence and bloodshed. This video and this song along with many Saxon songs may disturb war veterans, but this is written for the few enlightened people like myself who know that war solves nothing. There is a line left out of the single version: "I'm a soldier Of Fortune I'm Trained And I'm Ready To Die." That says it. To all who sacrificed their lives in battle- rest in peace.

kinda subjective when you label Iron Maiden as "Imperialists and right wing fanatic war mongers"...being a right wing person isn't necessarily related to be a pro war, it's more of an economic view thing, you know? Another point: remember that throughout the history, communist nations envolved themselves in wars as well...

I think that's a bit of a harsh interpretation. Iron Maiden were (are) certainly patriotic but I wouldn't say they're imperialist warmongers! Take for example "2 Minutes to Midnight" (whose opening riff seems to have been copied directly from this song), or "Como Estais Amigos", or the whole "A Matter of Life or Death" album, which see things from the point of view of the ordinary soldier and discuss the horrors of war honestly.


Some of Iron Maiden's songs do lionise war heroes, particularly British ones from WW2, but this is hardly a niche viewpoint. I wouldn't ascribe any particular ideology to them to be honest - about 60% of their songs are about the last film Steve Harris saw or book he read.



One of my favourite anti-war songs is "Don't Wake The Lion" by Magnum. If you haven't heard it I'm pretty sure you'll like it. And switching genres but about the same topic, "All Together Now" by The Farm.

This one is from 1983.
So if you suggest that one band "loaned" from the other, that would be Iron Maiden "loaning" from Saxon.
