Savoy Brown - Poor Girl Lyrics

This is a story 'bout a poor girl, a story that you ought to know
She lived all alone in a one room flat on a street where the lights are low
Every night about the same time she'd go and put her glad rags on
Go to the place where everyone goes to Boogaloo all night long
She's a poor girl

Born and raised in the country she got tired of pushing a plow
She take my train to the city and mother you should look at her now
With her rattlesnake boots, elephant bag, genuine crocodile hat
Around her neck to top it off she even wears a Persian cat
She's a poor girl

That was the story of the poor girl but now she uses her head
She's back home working on the land instead of playing in bed
The fast life she was living took her as it's prey
Now she's back in the country getting fatter every day
She's a poor girl

It sounds like that solo was double tracked and panned. I love the simple recording techniques of yesterday.

I loved the way Savoy Brown were so down to earth, funky, like the mushrooms growing out of the skull.

Those were GREAT Days 60's & 70's for music. Very glad I got to see a lot of this live.

got to see them live in 1970 before going to Vietnam and after I got back in 74. They were the warm up band for Deep Purple in the Garden......they came out with an album called the "Boogie Brothers and blew Deep Purple off of the stage.

    B.... K....

No one blows Deep Purple off the stage! You probably got too high during Savoy Brown and couldn't comprehend what you were seeing and hearing.

deep purple butchers their own songs so badly live you can't recognize which song they are playing. worst live group ever. i saw them in'71-'72.

I saw Van Halen blew Black Sabbath of the stage in 1978 ... This can happend if Rookies come up, and Big Names get tired ...

What a beautiful guitar solo!!!! The electric tone, timing, phrasing, touch, breaths, legato, whammy bar.....a highly developed sense of blues soloing!
    Thanks for posting this.
