Savoy Brown - Looking In Lyrics
I'm looking in from the outside
I wish my mind could read the score
Some day a door will open
Then I'll know, then I'll see
What I'm striving for
If I could get an answer
If someone would give me a clue
I know I'd feel much better
But I can't find anyone
To put my question to
And when I'm older and wiser
And I look back on my youth
Will I be contented or will I see
Nothing but a vain search for the truth
And when I'm old and wiser
And I look back on my youth
Will I be contented or will I see
Nothing but a vain search for the truth
I wish I knew better baby
My mind wouldn't be so sore
Some day a door will open
Then I'll know, then I'll see
What I'm striving for
I'm looking in from the outside
I wish my mind could read the score
Some day a door will open
Then I'll know, then I'll see
What I'm striving for
If I could get an answer
If someone would give me a clue
I know I'd feel much better
But I can't find anyone
To put my question to

so i do it too...
my dad used to get drunk and play this album really loud all the time... my childhood theme song
excellent upload, boyo that takes me back.
Kim had more soul than any other Brit Blues guitar player of his generation.
I was in 11th grade, now I'm 66 this still seems so relevant 💙
Me too!
This was always a stand out, great sounding track! Lonesome Dave's vocal work is really crisp and soulful.
Heard this in college in 1977, and it opened my mind.
In '72' scored some acid hitching from Arizona deserts to New England and got a ride on the Pike with some folks going to the Commons to see Savoy Brown. Green! Rain! Music! And all kind'a colors! Man, it was great. Then had to hitch 128. Challenge.
Jesus Christ . . . haven't heard this since it came out and I was 13. It's SO DIFFERENT to these older ears . . . but I became a professional musician and I remember when I first heard this I was BLOWN AWAY.
I went on to be technically far more proficient but now I tell myself that THESE GUYS CREATED the music I went on to perfect . . . my musical career was created on the backs of these guys.
And my neurons remember every note!
Truly one of the most underrated bands from the British Blues era! So many great records! Saw Savoy Brown at Winterland as a kid!
Had this vinyl some one stole it. This means war.
RIP Lonesome Dave
Охуенный тайминг.
1970 This was when there would be a stage, the musicians, some colored lights and an audience. There were no flashing lights, no dancers twerking and tickets were affordable.

The sweet, sultry, sting of Savoy's badd ass boogie....what's not to like
Where is this kind if music these days? Oh yea nowhere...looking back at looking in & loving it...
When I'm older and wiser, I'll look back on my youth
Will I be contented?
Or will I see nothing but a vain search for the truth?
Love this song, thanks for putting it on here
Swizz Beatz - WW3
Savoy Brown was a such a great blues/rock band, and Kim Simmonds was vastly underrated as a guitarist/songwriter
Yes...:)
62 and waiting for the music to come back
kin simmins back in the day of my young he was the best that was in 69 71 yea i was all about that an still am
I have this album in the closet, I was 16 when I bought it. No bubble gum for me. lol
Always love theses guys
This song is just a tour de force, Savoy in their prime.
sure takes me back
Yeah Chuck.
I was 12..
Fuck Yeah...
Savoy Brown had some of the best cover art too, I was 14 when I first heard this & stoned on some good weed, I started laughing so hard when my brother showed me the cover, I had the headphones on & the music was movin'!
chuck lane For years all i had of their music was HELLBOUND TRAIN JACK THE TOAD AND ST CORNER TALKING. NOW I H A VE SO MUCH more.Growning up in Detroit and outside Detroit i got into music very early.Thank you for bringing joy to an older woman
Thats JUNE ARNOLD NOT DANIELLE. SHE IS MY DAT.

one of the records I thought I" discovered ".
ruff ryders ww3 @0:05
Excellent!
Wolfmother wishes they could sound this good!
Have this vinyl. Still love it.
Very astute to take care of your record collection. I HAD this album many times over. But, always managed to lose my record collection in one way or another.
Kim Simmonds and Lonesome Dave made this song memorable but hats off to the others and the engineer and sound folks for the clarity of the sound.....good on ya.
Such total DELICIOUSNESS!! Thank you! I love them!
Best music to live the 70s-80s forever
still sounds good. 1st time 1970!!
The photoes of the band are worth a million alone! Im a huge Savoy / Foghat fan. Love to see the early pics. Was born in 63 an remember all the hippies from the neighborhood when I was a kid. A better world then.
ha ha your last name is like mine but spelled the original way lol. random thought. oh yea great song!!!!
@Michael Flaherty Better without the hippies.
+Jacob Charts Hey don't I know you?
Michael Flaherty born in '62. Same here. Walk home from school from Kindergarten and hippies hanging on front porches, playing music, workin on mini bikes.
Lonesome Dave!
thanks so much for sharing this, haven't heard it in ages. have the vinyl, but no needle for my turntable :(
loving it Haven't heard this since 1970 hanging in the basement with my top of the line Sanyo Quadrofonic
Quadrofonic was the just what we needed then too! My friend used to love to drive us around in one of those big old buick stationwagons that he added Quadrofonic sound to listening to Black Sabbath's first and second ablum and this and Grand Funk outside looking in, omg you just brought back great memories, or what I remember of them. Mostly the sound and the feeling. Delicious!
@babsinjrzy What you needed was Quadrophenia.
+Patrick McCloskey Seen the Who bud in my hometown of Watford England, where they come from 1964 lol
One of the very best British blues bands for sure. A lot of musicians passed through this band yet they always came up with something good. Kim Simmons is a fine and often overlooked guitarist...
I think his guitar solo is right up there with the best .
@william mclaughlin Kim Simmonds is one of the very best.
And Kim was a hippy back in his days with Savoy Brown. Rock on to one of the best .
Loved Looking In, great album
My favorite track on this LP is "Sitting and Thinking," so why does copyright no longer allow sharing of this track without payment? I downloaded it from Napster some years ago, and it has been removed. Hell, I can no longer even play the track I bought! I mean, I don't mind buying the CD, but it seems illogical when most other tracks from Looking In are still available for download.

from this to Kiss Hmmm
A couple of those Brits became Americans. Dr. T
I like Savoys Hellbound Train. Dr. T
By the celebrated Jim Bakie .
my brother made me an etched mirror with this album when i was 12 years old. i think i still have that mirror. he also laid me on the bands music. killer
Peverett, Stevens, and Earl left to form Foghat with guitarist Rod Price.
wikipedia says jejeje
wikis right
moi non plus! fabuleux album inégalé depuis ! :)
I know what you mean lol!
after this one,kin simmonds leaves and Foghats lonesome Dave emerges victor..good voice
Th British do some things very well, music they do better than anyone, Tull, Zeppelin, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Marillion, Gentle Giant, ELP, just to name a few..
a classic album that got lost in the 70s, the long line of british blues that totally have the best players and groove, blues in the uk so great, its amazing how they slipped thru the cracks, truly a unique sound for real blues fans the real deal
sorry my friend but i lived in maryland in those days...
I believe I know you from my Ruby Star days is that possible Mothers in Chicago1979
killer album...lonesome Dave, tellin' it, SNAP..Rev Eddro
Susan , please don't feel old ,we who grew up in the 60s & 70s with all this great music should only feel young when hearing it, Proud as hell to have been part of so much great talent that was all about making the best most passionate music possible, I learned to play guitar to all this awsome music and listen to it as much now as i did back then, Good then Good now like us... ROCK ON !!!
One of my all time favorite lps from back in the good ole days , my copy is still in great shape after a billion smoke filled parties, This and Street Corner Talkin were 2 of their best records, Kim Simmons was and still is one of rocks most underated guitarists, and he's still playing strong.. Music was soo good in those days cause it was all about playing well and Savoy Brown was no exception...
This was maybe the best incarnation of an excellent and under rated Brittish blues rock band.
I think I stepped into a time machine here. On the other hand, I feel old when listening to this and I ask, what the hell has happened to music these days? Thanks for the song. I miss talent......................
That is good.
KILL KILL KILL CAPCHA!!
awesome,love it!great group!thank u!
really under rated. good band from back in the day.
ya still have this album since it came out im still playin it
I just found this one in the thrift shop today for .50 cents! I saved the record as much as I could but it's got some wear on it! Anyway I liked it so much I went on ebay and picked up a better vinyl for $12!
awesome album cover! great sound
Fine music tend to stand up nicely over the decades is this does! I find some of these licks in my hobby blues guitar picking even today. Steal from the best I always say.
I was glad to see that someone had posted Take It Easy from the same album here a few weeks ago, but now it's been removed. Any change I could talk somebody here into posting that one again?
Thanks in advance!
excellent blues of the day
One of my favs also. And this song is awesome! I listened to it a million times probably.
@octoworm I used to have, operative word "used", this and many other covers of theirs in black light posters back in the 70's. They were great and I always got comments on them, like "wow, great poster, by the way, who in the hell is Savoy Brown" and I'd just laugh and tell them they were missing some great music!
@01Shorthanded They've got a total of 34 including one they released this year. Good Luck finding them
I grew up with my parents cranking this on the stereo
Kim Simmons is one Fine Guitar Player..And I do Miss Lonesome Dave too........
Bought it when i was a kid, cause the album cover was so cool. I still love it. Took it for a spin on the B&O a couple days ago. Great rhythm playing.
@octoworm I agree
I can't stop listening to this...!
this story needs to retold of this wonderful band and its songs...this blues boogie influenced swing rock and roll!!!!
I'm 54 and my 10 year older brother use to sit me down in his bean bag chair in Detroit and say "This is a must listen little bro" :)
Haven't heard for this for over 30 years! Yet into it remembered every note Kim Fingered
thanks,
Torchkid
One of my favorite albums. Great album cover too.
Got this record in a bargain bin for 2.50 today solely because the album cover is badass... the music proves that i prevailed
@chippy783 Yeah- right after Lion'sw Share!!
This was huge during my last semester of college.
@dogsbees Glad to hear it. Good taste in music will always exist thanks to people like you. I was generalizing of course. Heard all those you listed, have the well worn albums in my closet somewhere, haven't owned a turntable for years. If you like Savoy Brown I could give you a good list of others to listen to.
My freind Todd and I listened to this while getting stoned and hanging out.
remember the record player systems we heared these on. Suitcases..
I agree this is their best LP
I was a little boy in 1970 and always ran into my sister's room to steal this record, put the headphones on, and try to play along on the drums. I learned, man! My sister always yelled at me and told our parents but I had to hear it, dig? Had to.... Richard
im a youngster who listens only to savoy brown unless im listening to the radio of course. do not fear old timers im 25 and will carry Savoy Brown into the next generation, some way some how, here are some songs if you havent heard yet get listening : romanoff, vicksburg blues, tolling bells, leaving again, jack the toad, take it easy, poor girl, train to nowhere, and many many many more
Raw Sienna is a great LP too, I still have my vinyl!! I bought it when it came out, I was 16, yes, way back in the day. Still listen to Savoy Brown. I'm glad to hear you like them so much at your young age, carry on the timeless real music😘🎶🎶
m marmorstein- Good music taste BTW!!🎶🎶
@atomicknights52
Yeah me too. Played the grooves out of mine. Kim Simmons is sooo underrated. The youngers don't know what their missing by passing up stuff like this for some of the clowns that are so popular today.
