I bought this album new in about '94. That copy was stolen from my car shortly after, but I don't think I have been without a copy of it for more than a month or two since. I must have bought "Fumbling..." at least 15 times. One of about half a dozen CDs I can listen to from beginning to end.

I'm a bigger fan of her trance/remix albums, but one thing that always stands out - she never tries too hard. She such a subtle, sublime signer.

Does anyone not know the backstory about this song? ... Sara had a stalker who would send her love poems that would get creepier and creepier. She was obviously deeply concerned but also inspired. The lyrics of possession are taken directly from one of his poems. He was hurt by this and tried unsuccessfully to sue her and lost. A few days later he committed suicide. hunters found his truck abandoned I and his body hanging in the woods. Such a sad story but such a beautiful haunting song.

I would typically hear this song while riding in my mom’s van through the sprawling suburbs of a medium sized American city. Sprawling suburb America is fragmented and ugly. There’s not much natural beauty there, just mostly lots of people in a hurry and then this song made it sounded like another world existed. Or that another existence was possible beyond the strip-mall society. And then I grew up and worked in the garden department at Home Depot where I would hear this song like at 8:30pm, when no customers were in the store. I’d be restocking shelves alone, but the same feeling happened. This song is a rumor of another world, that people are too proud to speak of.

I agree with Chris L. I got this track on a "Taco Bell" compilation of all things. From the opening chords to the steeped distorted guitars..It just drew me in. The song also has one of best bass lines I've ever heard...very reminiscent of James Jamerson in that it's  busy but never intrudes.

Justa Dragn To add to that, the judges didn’t want to give him what he had truly wanted. To be in the same room as her. So the case wouldn’t have really ever gone anywhere. The poor guy was sick, and needed help. And it was a tragic situation for Sarah too because she loves her fans.
