Sarah McLachlan - Drawn To The Rhythm Lyrics

When we wore a heart of stone we wandered to the sea
Hoping to find some comfort there yearning to feel free
And we were mesmerized by the lull of the night and the smells that filled the air
And we layed us down on sandy ground it was cold but we didn't care

[CHORUS]

And we were drawn to the rhythm
Drawn to the rhythm of the sea
And we were drawn to the rhythm
Drawn to the rhythm of the sea

We fell asleep and began to dream when something broke the night
Memories stirred inside of us the struggle and the fight
And we could feel the heat of a thousand voices telling us which way to go
And we cried out is there no escape from the words that plague us so

[CHORUS]

In the still and silent dawn another day is born
Washed up by the tireless waves the body bent and torn
When you wake in the face of the blinding sun and you search only to find
That heaven is a stranger place than what you've left behind

[CHORUS]

I've never heard this album. First one I heard was Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. I feel like it found me the same year was released. I guess I always thought it was her first album for some reason. Amazingly consistent musician!

I love this song, but the video looks like that random stuff they show during a karaoke song

It's hard for me to believe she was only 23 when this came out considering what 23 year olds are producing music-wise today.

shadowflower93 Oh stop with the clichéd "our music was REAL music! Today's music ". There have been many amazing artists since Sarah that started out as young (or younger) and that's still the case even today. I was just watching an example of such young artists... check out "Grimes X HANA - The AC!D Reign Chronicles {Director's Cut} [Official Video]" for proof of my point. Until then, might I recommend you take up yelling at kids to "turn it down" and to "get off your lawn" !!!!!

    Hiro Protagonist... cool name!

even today?...hardly. A musical artist is someone with the natural ability, even gift, of not only being able to sing but to write/compose, arrange, and play one or any number of musical instruments as well as perform live without the aid of fancy enhancement devices i.e. auto-tune etc. Solo artists or groups with the a fore mentioned attributes also have the ability to be original and frankly move peoples hearts and minds. Those days are long gone at least on the scale that once was decade after decade. Most of "today's music" doesn't even come close to measuring up to standard set by many ...of the past.

Music of today, music of the past, which is better... whatever! As long as you like listening to it that's what's important. I'm happy to have discovered this lovely Sarah McLachlan song today

Sarah's Voice, in that 1st Album, was so amazing and communicative, especially for one [then] so Young! I just wish the production values of the recordings, and videos, had matched her talent! I still get goosebumps at times from certain songs. She's an amazing Lady and Musician. Bless You, Sarah! And thanks for the music that you've put out there; Awesome!!

I listen to this while floating on the ocean :-)

The rhythm is our return to and emergence from the sea.  Some would call this the unconscious, the Great Mother, the mythic ocean from which all life and consciousness arises and to which it returns again.  Each night we descend into the ocean of unconsciousness to dream and the next morning we awaken.  This is the rhythm of our lives to which we are relentlessly drawn.

It is about escaping the captivity to THE WAY of THE SEA, in which there is a HIGHWAY to a place of HOME. :)

I used to listen to this album over and over again when I was 10-12 years old, and I memorized the lyrics. I loved singing along, and feeling our voices blend together ♥ this is still a song I listen to when I need an inspirational boost. Sarah McLachlan is amazing.

Glad to see some of the older Sarah classics on here. IMHO, some of her best work was on the first 3 albums.
